Welcome to the second Duties & Patrols for 2024! The rules are simple: post in a posting order, do your duties well, report any problems encountered during the patrol to a leader or deputy, and enjoy! Please remember that sign-ups have resetted, so please sign up again if you wish to join for next month's Duties & Patrols <3
For the mock battle, it will be treated as an "official" battle. You have 48 hours to post in the topic before the battle begins, 36 hours after the battle begins to make your first move, and 36 hours to reply after your opponent has posted.
You can’t fix the past, but you can change the future.
The morale of the Clan has been in ruins ever since the wolf attack, which stole from them too many lives. Several moons had passed since, but Sootstorm knew that everyone was still feeling the loss. As much as he would like to dwell on his own griefs and faults, he knew it was time to get over it for the better of the Clan, and thus proposed a plan to cheer up his fellow clanmates. As soon as they stopped at a place to rest, he announced that they'd be doing a mock battle to keep their skills sharp, and took with him a few warriors and apprentices to the location he had mapped out before hand. The instructions were simple: each group had a bush that they'd have to protect, but at the same time they'd have to try and take the other group's bush. All they needed to do was touch it in order to claim it. He had split them as evenly as he could; Crakepaw, Oatpaw and Galestorm on his side, and Tallshadow, Pantherpounce, Rapidpaw and Cloudypetal on the other.
"Is everyone ready?" He called out, his gaze sweeping over his clanmates one final time. For the fun of it, he had dubbed his group GaleClan and the other TallClan.
The mock battle will start in the next Sootstorm post~

Rapidpaw really loved this idea, it was gonna be so cool! She bounded over to her older brother next to their bush they were supposed to protect. She gave a wide look up at him ready for whatever direction he wanted to give.
She gave a little purr and wave of her tail to her other two teammates as well, Pantherpounce she did not know very well yet but she would like to get to know better and this was a great time to do so!
Cloudypetal the new warrior of the clan, she had spent very small amount of time with her when they were both apprentices but not much.
"This is gonna be so fun!" she purred. For her at least, who won was of little importance this was mainly getting to have hang out time with everyone.
That being said, she would still try her best.

Crakepaw stood by her father, the singular canine that poked through without remorse shining proudly. She was ready. Battles always had fueled her with a level of thrill like no other; and in this instance, it was no exception. Looking directly at her sibling, and the rest of her group, she knew they would fight and win just fine. Especially as she looked across and saw Tallshadow. Tallclan. Pff. "Let's go, papa!" She beamed, more than ready to engage in combat.

Tallshadow nudged Rapidpaw’s shoulder fondly. “It’ll be fun, but you’ve got to focus, remember what Tigerstar has taught you about sparring.” The tall warrior swept his amber gaze over the rest of his team, making sure they were all ready to begin. He looked across to Sootstorm, giving the deputy a firm nod. These large scale spars were new to him, but it would be a good opportunity to sharpen everyone’s skill, no matter which side won.

Oatpaw straightened up, his brown eyes glowing with excitement. He'd never sparred before! He felt nervousness stir in the pit of stomach, but he tried to push it away. Quickfrost and I have never even gone over any battle moves... He took a deep breath, glancing at Sootstorm. These were his Clanmates, after all. They'd never shown him anything but patience and affection. I've got this.
Oatpaw didn't know Crakepaw too well yet; she'd only just made her own nest in the apprentices' den. Galestorm had only just joined the ranks of WindClan's warriors - a moon ago, he'd been Oatpaw's denmate. The apprentice wouldn't be hard pressed to admit that he looked up to the older tom. With him on their side, the ragtag group would be just fine. Let's win this thing! Oatpaw's ears twitched forward, and he bounced to his paws. We have the deputy on our side, anyway! TallClan doesn't stand a chance. A purr rumbled in his throat as he glanced toward the bush they'd have to capture.
"You're going down, TallClan!" He called out, grinning. This was gonna be fun!

Pantherpounce sat quietly with his side and wrapped his fluffy tail around his dark paws. He observed the scene before him. He was pleased to see that the newer apprentices were eager to learn, and it was always rewarding to witness the growth of WindClan. It was only normal for the sun to come out after a storm, he supposed. The warrior gave the deputy a quick nod of his head. There were no downsides to a good spar.

Galestorm stood with his shoulders square, tail up, ears forward in his usual confident stance as he sized up the 'enemy' team, eyeing his sister, Cloudypetal, warily. Images of their encounter at the southern lake blazed through his mind and burned him again and again. His claws unsheathed, catching her ear, which had healed in a permanent scar. I won't ever hurt her again, he silently vowed again. This is just a training session, nothing serious.
Galestorm was proud to have been chosen for his deputy's team, and even have their mock team named after himself. Though the opposing team had more warriors, he guessed that it was only fair since he and Sootstorm were such strong cats. It must be that, he thought, perhaps a bit arrogantly. And he was put on the same team as Crakepaw, who had given him his first scar as a warrior... not that anyone else needed to know it came from a kit. At least I can be certain she will give it her all.
Galestorm nodded agreement with Oatpaw's taunting, his amber eyes burning mischieviously. "GaleClan," he growled, sizing up his targets. "We are dedicated, loyal, and fierce. Our strong bonds hold us together. With teamwork, we can win." His gaze swept over his team, dipping his head respectfully to Sootstorm. "Who is the fastest one here?" he prompted, lowering his voice so the other team couldn't overhear him, "I can serve as a distraction to our enemy and draw in their blows. I can take it. One cat should hang back and defend the bush, and one should wait for an opening, and run to take their bush." He looked at each cat in turn. "What do you think?" His tail twitched as he carefully considered a plan. He wanted to make sure all of his team members were heard. Together we will win this, he decided, flashing a glance over at his sister.

Cloudypetal couldn't help but dread this mock battle - so much negativity had been brought into her life when claws were unsheathed. Despite this being for practice, sheathed paws, it couldn't help but give her an uneasy feeling. At least it'd be good practice for the apprentices! She thought. But that's all it's really good for.
She sat down next to Pantherpounce, her whiskers twitching at how seriously the opposing team was taking this - plans and all. We're going to make it fun, instead! She thought to herself. She longed for Eaglefly to be here - he made everything so much fun without even trying. She silently opted for defending the bush.
She gave Sootstorm a curt nod, her eyes dancing with mischief as she glanced at Galestorm and his crew. "Good luck, GaleClan. You're going to need it!" She teased back. "Try not to trip over your own tail." Thankfully, she had been placed in a team mostly full of competent warriors as opposed to rambunctious kits. Tallshadow will lead us into victory.

Sootstorm raised his tail for silence once he got his confirmation. He waited until both sides had fallen silent, then gave a single nod. The battle had started. The tom leapt forward, crossing the clearing in swift, wide strides. All around him, he could hear his clanmates clashing into each other as they begun sparring, some confident in their movements, others not. Sootstorm took this time to personally observe how far his son's skills had come since he was an apprentice. That, and he didn't feel good targetting any of the younger warriors, since he knew that he'd surely win-- and crush a few egos in the process. Not the most ideal for an activity that was meant to boost morale. The deputy had his eyes locked on his target, and with a grin on his face he launched himself at Tallshadow. The deputy used his weight to barrel the golden tabby over, jumping backwards onto all four paws as he faced his opponent.
Sootstorm used Jumping Strike, dealing 10(+3)dmg and -7SP

Rapidpaw nodded at tall shadows words and focused on the other team. They all looked ready and after a moment of silence, dad started the spar by leaping at tall shadow. She really wanted to help her brother but she also knew he had to take care of himself because otherwise someone else on gale clan could get the bush.
She fluffed up her pelt so excited for this yay let’s go tall clan!! Team work makes the dream work she sing songied as she almost skip - hopped towards the other team. Once closer she got into her proper stance and dove right at the new apprentice she hadn’t met yet Imma get you oat paw! she squealed
She pawed aiming for his shoulder to try and unbalance him early on

Galestorm's eyes met Cloudypetal's and his eyes gleamed in response to her taunt. That's more like it.
Galestorm wasted no time getting started once Sootstorm gave the signal. He leaped forward, watching Cloudypetal closely. Her posture seemed defensive, and Galestorm considered the tension between them. I don't want to go after Cloudypetal, he decided silently, instead streaking across the line towards the other warrior on their team, and one he was less familiar with - Pantherpounce. The tom posed a greater threat to his plan. He attacked directly, leaping into the air and landing on Pantherpounce heavily to push him into the snow.
Tallshadow was preoccupied with Sootstorm, and Rapidpaw had Oatpaw, leaving Crakepaw to possibly face off with Cloudypetal or attempt to take the bush. "Go, Crakepaw!" he yowled as he came down on his opponent. For now, I have to focus on him.
Galestorm used Jumping Strike on Pantherpounce, dealing 10 damage (7+3 for first attack) and -7 SP.

Tallshadow met his father’s charge with a grin that bared all his sharp white teeth. Sootstorm had the upper hand, in both skill and experience, but the golden tom didn’t mind being a distraction if it meant someone else from his team had less opposition getting to the other bush. With a playful growl in his throat, Tallshadow pushed off his haunches, the lithe muscle that had been slowly returning after the famine and his illness rippling under his pelt. In a single bound he covered the small distance between them and used his height advantage to grab Sootstorm by the scruff, and force the older tom down. He was mindful to not actually skin his teeth into the skin, it was still a spar, even if the yowls and sounds of bodies colliding around them were just as spirited as a real battle.
Tallshadow used Teeth Grip on Sootstorm, dealing -8 damage and costing 10sp

Sootstorm could have easily dodged Tallshadow's attack; he could see the attack coming from across the moor. It was something that warriors often used, but, as he glanced up to see his son's playful grin, he might as well let him have it. When was the last time he got to interact with his son like this? Tallshadow had been plagued by the sickness for the longest time, and was only just recovering. The fact that he was alive at all was a miracle in itself. Sootstorm didn't have the heart to end the battle too quickly, and didn't fight back when he felt teeth close around his scruff. "Not bad," He purred, batting his son's muzzle teasingly. Sootstorm used Front Paw Blow, dealing 7dmg and -5SP

Oatpaw hit the ground with a thud as Rapidpaw slammed him with a well-placed paw, knocking him off his balance. Fox dung! Taking a second to gather his strength - or what little he had of it, thanks to the strange illness that seemed to plague him lately - he stopped to devise a plan of attack.
Rapidpaw was younger than him, and therefore smaller. He was a shorter tom, sure, but he was stout; he had a lower center of gravity. Tail twitching, he stayed on the ground for a moment longer, acting as if the wind had been knocked out of him. "You got me..." He groaned, looking up at Rapidpaw with tired eyes. Then, when he thought he'd drawn her concern, he launched himself upwards, hoping to catch her off guard. He slammed himself into her side, using his size to bowl her over.
"Take that!" He called playfully, grinning in spite of his wild panting.
Oatpaw used Play Dead, dealing 8 damage and costing 5 SP!
