Tallshadow bounded through the snow, ignoring the cold sting against his pads. Thick flakes settled into his golden fur quicker than he could shake them off. Spotting an outcropping of rocks ahead, the lanky warrior leapt nimbly up the slope, claws sinking into the slippery pebbles beneath the snow. It was slightly more sheltered here on the other side of the high ledges. The steep cliffs sloped down to reveal a snow-swept clearing. Spindly trees with their roots clinging to the loose soil dotted the edges, their feeble branches heavy with ice and snow. Hopefully there would be some prey to find hiding amongst the rocks or foraging in the clearing.
He looked over his shoulder to the rest of the patrol, Quickfrost’s pale pelt nearly impossible to pick out against the white blur of the landscape “Let’s split up and try over here. Be careful, we don’t know what else out here may be hungry.” The slender tom moved off down into the clearing to scent around the edges of the trees. He nearly stepped on the poor rabbit sheltered under the exposed roots of a tree clinging to the hillside. It looked just as surprised to see him. Tallshadow immediately lunged for the back of it’s neck.
Apparently he wasn’t the only one with his sights set on that particular rabbit. He would recognize the shadow of wings anywhere. With a snarl in his throat, the golden tom leapt at the diving bird, taking the sharp slice of its talons against his shoulder as he wrapped his long forelimbs around its neck and dragged it back down to the earth. He forced his claws deep into its back as the hawk beat its wings frantically against the snow. ---------------------------------------------

Galestorm was following Tallshadow's lead on this patrol. It was nice to have a chance to stretch his legs and participate on a real patrol since leaving the lake. It gave the dilute tortoiseshell tabby a chance to clear his mind. Breathing in the crisp, cold air and hunting on a patrol again reminded him of home.
Tallstar gave his instructions and Galepaw nodded his acknowledgement, flicking his tail and veering off just away from the trail the patrol leader had followed. His ears were pricked and his tail gliding just above the snow, his pawsteps falling silently, when he heard the cry of a predator bird close by. He sprang forward, darting through the snowscape when Tallshadow came into his sights.
Galestorm let out a furious yowl, "Tallshadow!" when he saw that his friend had pinned the huge thing in the snow, its wings flailing wildly. Soon it would escape Tallshadow's grasp. Fury burned beneath Galestorm's pelt as he rushed to his friend's aid. Bunching his muscles, Galestorm leaped and landed on top of the bird, sinking his teeth into its struggling, feathery form.
Galestorm used Snap, dealing 7 damage and -7 SP.

Oatpaw had been following behind his mentor when he heard a fierce cry and a familiar snarl only a few foxlengths from where they'd left Tallshadow. Tallshadow and Galestorm are in trouble! He glanced at Quickfrost, ears pricking with alarm, before taking off.
Luckily, they hadn't gone far. He gasped for air as he put all his energy into an all-out sprint. His lungs hadn't been the same since that StarClan-forsaken Gathering, and he couldn't run nearly as fast as his Clanmates, but he'd still try. When the two warriors finally came into view, Oatpaw skidded to a halt, his chest heaving and his breaths coming in short, uneven rasps. Tallshadow had a hawk pinned beneath his claws, but the way it was thrashing beneath the tom, he wouldn't have a grasp on it much longer.
I have to help them! He finally had a chance to prove himself. After his clumsiness with the wolves and his bleak first hunting attempt with Quickfrost, he finally had a chance to prove that he deserved the title of WindClan apprentice. And maybe, someday, warrior.
"Hold on!" He yowled, rushing over to help Galestorm. Is that a hawk? That's bigger than I ever imagined! Its wings beat angrily against the snow as it attempted to shake Tallshadow off, but Oatpaw was on it before it could make its escape. He hissed, pinning down one of its wings and slicing at the bird with outstretched claws. He felt a twinge of satisfaction as claws made contact with soft flesh, drawing blood. He came away with feathers in his claws and felt something stir within him as the bird let out a pained shriek. He panted, exhausted from straining himself so much with his lungs the way they were. "I'll teach you to mess with my Clanmates!"
