Rapidfire waited later into the evening to start this mentor reassignment ceremony than usual. The hot summer days were really no joke and the evening cool was a welcoming drop in tempature after the long day.
Hopping up to the rock she kicked off the ceremony of getting Thistlepaw a new mentor.
"Clanmates, please gather around. we are here for Thistlepaw's rementoring ceremony. It hurt a lot to know that with this she was forced to publicly face the fact that her sister Crakeburn was gone now.
The searches for her had come up empty and there was likely now near zero chance she would ever see her ever again. Crakeburn had always been around for her and taught her how to stand up for herself. She paused a bit thinking about it all before going on.
"With my sisters absence I will finish what she started. Thistlepaw, from now on- I will be your mentor"

Thistlepaw honestly had mixed feelings on the disappearance of Crakeburn. She had spent much of his apprenticeship sick in the medicine den. And she had hardly been out when she had gone. It was something he didn't know what to think about. Yes, she had been his mentor, but at the same time, he had hardly known her. Was it insensitive to not fully grieve? Would it be weird if he did grieve over a cat he never knew?
He didn't know how to act about the situation. He never blamed Crakeburn. It was a situation completely out of her control. But he couldn't fake a bond that was never there, either.
So when the Clan gathered to hear who would be training him from now on, Thistlepaw was silent. It was especially awkward when Rapidfire named herself as his mentor. She had been his mentor's sister. Should he comfort her on her loss? Should he pretend nothing happened?
He didn't know what to think of this. Instead, he dipped his head to her in recognition.
Perhaps silence would be the best tactic for now.
Now I'm slippin' through the cracks of your cold embrace
Thistlepaw, apprenticed to Rapidfire... Leopardwind didn't know how to feel about it. On one paw, he was relieved that his brother was finally given to a capable, able-bodied mentor instead of the sickly Crakeburn, but on the other paw... his former mentor was training his brother. Something didn't sit right with that, something that nagged at him. But surely it was nothing. It was just a mentor assignment, it didn't mean anything. He must have eaten something wrong...
And yet, something in him still remained sour even as he approached Thistlepaw. "Congratulations, Brother."
