Wigglepaw's Mentor Reassignment

Wigglepaw shifted uncomfortably from his spot next to the thorn barrier, his pelt prickling with anxiety. He had volunteered for every search party that had been sent out, but no matter how hard they tried, nobody seemed to be able to figure out where Cloudychase and Copperlark had gone. Try as he might, even Wigglepaw didn't a clue as to where his mentor had gone. So now, with the search parties called off, Wigglepaw had made a habit of sitting by the camp entrance, hoping to catch wind of Cloudychase's familiar scent once again.

That day never came, though, and as the days went on, each cat seemed to begin to accept the disappearance of the warriors. Wigglepaw's own training had fallen through the cracks so now, he spent most of his time helping out around the camp and, when he wasn't doing that, he remained by the thorn barrier. His ear, having been on the receiving end of Cloudychase's claws, had mostly healed by now, thankfully. Though, truthfully, Wigglepaw would endure a thousand more scratches just like it for Cloudychase to return. He didn't want a new mentor...

Though, the white tom never had apologized for hurting Wigglepaw. Not that he needed too, Wigglepaw didn't hold that against him. He was stressed, or perhaps just overwhelmed. Unfortunately, Wigglepaw never knew what was going on in Cloudychase's mind. Now, he wished he had tried harder to get close to him, maybe, if he had, he could have prevented whatever had happened to the grumpy white warrior. Oh, and his sister too. It just wasn't fair.

Suddenly, Acornstem's voice echoed over the camp, drawing Wigglepaw from his thoughts. A clan meeting...how interesting. Slowly, the large tom got to his paws, hesitating to abandon his post. What if Cloudychase came back and he wasn't the first cat to greet him? The idea of the white warrior returning warmed Wigglepaw's heart for a moment and he trudged toward the center of the camp - he could afford to take a break for a few moments, right?

Wigglepaw ambled toward the center of the camp, plopping down with a sigh next to a group of warriors. He was their size now and still getting taller and larger - it seemed as though he would never stop growing. Wigglepaw spotted Blazefang sitting a distance away, near the elder's den, and tried to offer a comforting smile her way. He wasn't the only one suffering - both of the missing warriors were her kits...she must be overcome with fear for their safety. He would keep searching...for her at least.

Then, Acornstem's voice rose once more, and his gaze lifted to the Highrock. At the mention of his missing mentor, Wigglepaw's hopes rose. Had some new evidence been found? Was it possible that it was all just one big misunderstanding and that the two littermates were okay? As she went on, though, the young tom deflated. Nothing new had been found and they still had no idea what had happened to Cloudychase or Copperlark. His eyes narrowed slightly as she spoke, paws kneading the ground uncertainly. Where was she going with this...?

A new mentor? No cat would be as good as Cloudychase was. They didn't even know if he was truly gone! He still might come back, right? It seemed unlikely, at this point, especially if Acornstem thought it was necessary to replace him already. The name of an unfamiliar warrior left Acornstem's jaws and Wigglepaw swiveled around to search for the she-cat in question. He had seen her in passing, but they'd never really gotten a chance to speak or even patrol together...Cloudychase always preferred taking Wigglepaw out alone to train.

Wigglepaw watched as Sageroot approached, his tail tip twitching. He didn't agree with this, but he wasn't going to make a fuss either. After an awkward moment of hesitation, he quickly touched noses with Sageroot before pulling away. "Mhm." He looked away as well, biting back the urge to say that Cloudychase might still be out there somewhere. "My thanks...will not let you down."
