RAPIDFIRE
Oh I love it and ...
The past moon had drastically changed Rapidfire's life in so many different ways - from losing her parents and sibling to becoming deputy to having a litter of her own. The amount of things she had going on was all being jugled by a relativly young she-cat who was still trying to find her own place in it all. With each passing day the routie that she kept pace with was becoming more and more unmanagable - she would wake up in the nights from her kits scambering around her or getting a paw in the face from a hungry Rainkit or Creamkit or Bugkit. Her nights were spent trying to comfort them or get them back to sleep - whatever little sleep she did manage was over dawn came and the responsibilities it brought with it.
She used to love the daylight. As a kit she loved the daylight - as it seemed through the nursery den cracks as a kit it always used to make her so eager - it meant it was playtime or time to be with her siblings.
Now daylight meant the forced response of getting to ones paws no matter how little sleep was achieved. Hunting, Deputy tasks, Patrols, and add to top of that three new kits.
Today was no different as she dragged herself from her nest her eyes crossed momentarly before she blinked them straight. The responsibilty for her was something she could not let down however. How could she? How could she give up now? Her father had fought till his last breath quite literally for this clan. She squeezed her eyes shut would she just be doomed to repeat his mistakes?
She glanced down at the sleeping three bundles of fur - of course, now they were sleeping she sighed with a playful eyeroll. No- she wouldnt leave them behind like he had left her behind. She would figure this out.
Today was going to be extra busy - on top of motherhood, deputy tasks, patrols, hunting and the general socalizing she had - there was also other kits to be ready to be made apprentices.
Part of her wondered if she should ask Hemlockfox for energy herbs but decided against it not wanting to put any strain on medince herbs now - not with many moonstones soon to be coming up.
She got up to her aching paws. Going to the apprentice den she gave a gentle purr peaking in.
"Leopardpaw, are you ready to go train today? We have lots to cover."

To say Leopardpaw was disappointed in his mentor was, unfortunately, the truth. Rapidfire seemed tired all the time, as if training and going about her duties was such a chore. Did she have no idea how honorable her rank was? She acted as if being deputy was such a horrible thing. Why even stay as deputy, then? For once, he had to admit that Father's judgement had been wrong. As strange as it seemed to admit that Father, of all cats, could make such a grave mistake, there was no mistaking it. As the days went on, Leopardpaw only grew to resent his mentor further. Not only was his mentor young and inexperienced, she was such a softie, and looked as if the strong winds of the moor might crush her at times. Today was no different, as she peeked into the nursery with those awful, tired eyes and soft voice. He wondered if he ripped her throat out, would her screams be any harsher? Or would it remain the same, weak as a mouse and even more pathetic? With a reluctant drag of his paws, Leopardpaw pushed himself to his paws and followed Rapidfire out of the apprentice's den, trying his best not to let his irritation show on his face.

For whatever reason her apprentice didn’t seem to be all that excited or seem to like her all that much. That was fine he didn’t have to so long as he learned his lessons. She led him out of camp not bothering to make small talk that he didn’t want anyways.
Show me your hunting crouch, when you are ready go try and catch a rabbit. she would give him advise on anything later but sometimes the best way was to see what he could do especially someone like him who seemed to be wanting to take a challenge on was to let him loose and see what he caught.

Leopardpaw nodded to confirm he understood his mentor's instructions, then got into a hunting crouch. It was something he had grown to be rather used to from his constant insistence to practice anything he saw the apprentices do as a kit, sometimes staying up past his bedtime to try out the new moves. His hunting crouch, though not perfect due to having no personal feedback, was still amazing for a newly-named apprentice, and almost immediately he stood up again, as if he knew he was ready to hunt a rabbit. He tracked one down easily, tasking the sweet scent carried to him by the wind. He, of course, remembered what the warriors and apprentices told him after he badgered them for tips. Keep downwind of his prey. That's what they said, right? The black tom moved silently across the moor, getting closer and closer to the rabbit, until he was just mere foxlengths away. With a heave of his hindlegs, he burst into a sprint, rushing straight at the rabbit. It jumped, startled by the rapidly approaching tom, but before it could even think to run away he was on top of it, paws pushing it into the soft grass and jaws clamping shut around it's neck. Leopardpaw stood up, rabbit hanging from his jaws, and returned to his mentor with a proud glint in his eyes. His early training had been worth it, and he'd be a warrior before any of his littermates.

Rapidfire watched his technique quietly just observing for now. He moved slowly away and she nodded acknowledging that he stayed downwind. "very good" she whispered to herself.
As he pounced at it she held her breath - everything looked good set up wise it was just a matter of speed from here on out.
Her eyes widened impressed as he caught the rabbit and held it in his jaws.
She went over closer to him and nodded a grin on her face already. "Great job my apprentice, you stayed downwind and were able to get the surprise on it that way. The only thing you might want to think about is keeping your tail lower when you enter your hunters crocuh" she slunk low to the ground showing him as she stalked along parallel to him.
"you cant let it give you away over any of the grass or hilltops out here" she tried to explain.
"You catch on really fast though" she praised him remembering how she also really enjoyed hunting as an apprentice - fighting was less favorable to her when she was younger - soemthing she hoped she would have improved on by now

Of course, Rapidfire had to admit his brilliance. She'd be lying if she said the work he just showed was anything short of amazing, and she had at least enough honor to not lie to his face. The black tom scowled as his mentor pointed out that his tail had been too high; and to think he had just concluded that she wouldn't lie to his face! She must be upset that there was nothing more she could teach him, and made up something wrong to correct him on. He knew what he had done, and that was a perfect hunt. The rabbit at his paws was proof of that. Whatever, he wasn't here to stroke Rapidfire's ego.
"Rapidfire, why don't you show me the proper way to hunt a rabbit? Perhaps seeing this technique in action would help me catch on faster," Leopardpaw suggested smoothly. Let's see how good your hunting really is, deputy.
