Tigerkit Tigerkit looked up from his meal, a plump rat, as a black-furred tom called for ShadowClan to gather. This has happened a couple of times so far while he'd been in ShadowClan, and it was usually to give a kit a new name. Quillsplash had said recently that soon he would become an apprentice too, maybe it was his turn? Still, the thought of standing in front of the whole clan made his bones shudder, and Tigerkit stayed at the back of the crowd. Hopefully it wasn't his time yet.
Everything I say is a lie, but they’re the only things keeping me alive
Quillsplash had tried to help Tigerkit fit in as best as he could, but having been taken in as a kit as well and having no kits of his own, he had no idea how a normal kithood was meant to look like. Amongst the things he tried to teach the kit was the traditions of the Clans; the ceremonies, which he had seen quite a few of so he at least knew what he was talking about, as well as the ranks, which he hoped he got right. Though it had only been a moon or two since Quillsplash took Tigerkit into ShadowClan, he found it... nice, to care for another.
Today, it seems, would be Tigerkit's apprentice ceremony. Quillsplash dimly remembered Swiftheart grooming him in preparation for his own ceremony, and so he did the same for the kit. As Sablestrike called together the Clan, the tortoiseshell sent one last look in the tabby's direction before joining the crowd. He could taste the tom-kit's fear from here, a feeling he knew all too well. He had trembled just as much during his own ceremony, though perhaps for a different reason. It felt useless to promise the kit that he'd be fine, and so he settled for simply nodding in assurance.
She remained in his memory simply as the most plaintive and poignant of a line of ghosts
Juniperkit's head rose when her father's voice rang through the air. She pulled herself out of the nursery, hopeful green eyes watching him in hopes that this time he'd say her name. She had been working hard to be better, stronger, and surely it had to be enough to earn her a place in the apprentice's den? It- it wasn't like her voice was needed to be an apprentice, just her physical strength, and she had tried to become stronger...

Picking Tigerkit from the crowd took slightly longer than what Sablestrike was used to. Most kits charged to the front of the clan, hoping each ceremony called would theirs, but not Tigerkit. The deputy almost felt bad as he began the ceremony. "Tigerkit, please step forward.'
Sablestrike kept his voice soft as he addressed the kit. "You have reached the age of six moons and are ready to become an apprentice. Until the day you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Tigerpaw. Your mentor will be Nettleweaver. As tiring as he is, I believe he has certain... traits, that would make him a fine warrior. May he pass those traits onto you and train you well." Truthfully, Sablestrike wasn't sure giving Nettleweaver an apprentice was the right move. However, the young warrior had shown him signs that beneath all of his immaturity, there was a warrior worthy of his name. Sablestrike hoped that the responsibility of taking on an apprentice would help Nettleweaver onto that path. A golden sphere rolled to meet Nettleweaver's eyes for a few moments, then he dismounted the Jaggedrock.
While Nettleweaver held disdain for Leopardstar, he oddly enough found Sablestrike quite amicable. After all the deputy was his brother’s mentor and had even offered him advice on occasion. When he’d spoken up at Lilypaw’s ceremony Sablestrike could have almost defended him. Not that the deputy’s word had meant anything to Leopardstar. The white tom’s ear twitched as he watched the ceremony unfold. He knew about Tigerkit, because of course he did. They might not know him, but he tried to know a little about all of his clanmates. Nettleweaver felt sorry for the poor tom if anything, an orphan and clearly very socially inept from the way he shied away from the rest of clan. Despite his own sociability, the newly named warrior emphasised with the soon to be apprentice. He knew what it was like to be outcast, Lilypaw and her host of cronies had seen to that.
He listened carefully, waiting to hear who Tigerkit’s mentor was to be. Nettleweaver was completely stunned when Sablestrike said his name. Hadn’t he just been made a warrior like… Yesterday? This had to be a joke… But he knew the deputy didn’t do jokes, which was fortunate in this case. He would be an excellent mentor, he didn’t even mind the black tom’s snipes because deep down he knew they were compliments. With a bounce to his step, the warrior hopped through the crowd to find Tigerpaw. Unlike his own ceremony, Tigeroaw was far more reserved and he didn’t have to worry about a possibly broken nose. He tried to avoid thinking about his own mentor now that she’d picked her side, but he missed the bond they’d shared when he was a kit. Anxiety radiated off the shivering apprentice and Nettleweaver smiled gently. Everyone seemed to think he was mean and awful, but he’d prove them all wrong on his own terms. “Hi, Tigerpaw.” he purred “We can begin training when you’re ready, but you should setup first. I think my old nest is still in the den, it’s really comfy with lots of feathers that my friend Batpaw got for me, you can have it if you’d like. it’s kind of up the back with his nest and Crabpaw’s too. They’ll be your friends definitely.”
Everything I say is a lie, but they’re the only things keeping me alive
Quillsplash pushed his way through the crowd as soon as the ceremony was over to be by the younger tom's side. His heart was beating irregularily, as if he were scared that in the few heartbeats that he hadn't been by Tigerpaw's side something would have happened. Everyone was echoing their congratulations, but he remembered his own ceremony, especially how scared he was. His tail rested softly on the tabby's shoulder, and he murmured to Tigerpaw, "If you ever get confused or need help with something, you know where to find me." He wasn't sure of what to think of Nettleweaver... the tom was Batpaw's friend, though he hoped the warrior would be more productive than his apprentice. He'd definetly have to check in with the tom a few times.
She remained in his memory simply as the most plaintive and poignant of a line of ghosts
It wasn't her ceremony... disappointment weighed her ears down, and the she-kit flopped down unto the ground in defeat. Her friend, however... green eyes travelled to Tigerkit as he stepped forward, no doubt nervous and scared. She couldn't believe he was moving on without her as well. Would she be stuck in the nursery forever? Panic fluttered in her heart, making her feel as if she were sinking, even as the ceremony drew to a close and cheers exploded all around her. The screams hurt her ears, and now her heart too when they cheered not her name but the name of yet another friend of hers moving on without her.
