Subject: Kit's Apprentice Ceremony Sun 18 Dec 2022 - 5:30
The wind had a distinct chill to it that Wolfblossom could feel against her nose and pawpads as she made her way to stand in front of the great rock. Weak afternoon sunlight filtered through the trees, and Wolfblossom's pale gaze swept over the hollow thoughtfully. Figuring out a mentor for this soon-to-be apprentice had been challenging, but she thought she had found a good choice.
"Let all cats old enough to climb a tree gather beneath the great rock!" She called, rising to her paws in front of the rock.
Skyclan always woke up around the same time. The trees awake with the sounds of birds also beginning to stir acted as a sort of alarm. Letting the cats deep within expertly crafted make-shift dens know that the sun was stretching her beams over the horizon. Starclan closing the doors on our dreams and bringing us back to the pines. Kit lived his life in repetition. He'd wake up, he'd play meaningless kit games with the others in the nursery. Watch with envy as cats streaked in mud and pine needles would slip in and out of camp. Smear himself with dirt and mud, trying to imitate. Groomed against his own will by the npc queens. Kit was spotless at the moment, not an easy feat as the rains created wet portions of mud in Fourtrees close to where he could explore. It would maybe even be considered cute that he admired them so greatly, if he wasn't so persistent. A voice had interrupted his afternoon meal, not coming from the rodent clasped under two paws as was his first instance. No, instead it came from a familiar creamy face positioned in front of the great rock. Kit had to quickly clear his face of surprise, finish up the last few morsels of food and scamper to join the cats that started to gather. With his adoptive mother, Dawnfeather, gone he felt quite lost and alone. Rita had left him, and now Dawnfeather was kidnapped by Twolegs. It seemed like everything was going wrong for him. Skidding to a halt, Kit squeezed between two other cats, making sure he could clearly see Wolfblossom.
"Kit, step forward," She mewed, pausing to allow the former loner to do so. She smiled at the surprise on the... rather aptly named kit's face, glad that he had joined the crowd. Dawnfeather had taken him under her wing, and it was saddening that she wasn't here to see him become part of the clan, but life went on. And Kit, who was about to become an apprentice, would need a new name, too, along with his new rank. "You've reached the age of six moons, and it's time you become an apprentice of Skyclan. From this day forward you will be known as Foxpaw, and your mentor will be Thornstalker. She knows our ways as well as any cat, and is a skilled warrior. I have faith that she will pass all she knows onto you." Her gaze found her former apprentice within the crowd, offering her a small smile. Wolfblossom had meant what she said.
Kit pushed his way out in front of the two he was pinned between and shook out his pelt plastering a smug expression on his maw. This was his moment. Lifting his tail high in the air he stared at Wolfblossom with anticipation. Yes he was six moons..yes! It was time for him to become an apprentice! He knew it was coming any day now, his momma told him it was like this. A warrior would make him become an apprentice. This was it-wait..Foxpaw? Rats! Dawnfeather did tell him he would have to take a real clan name soon enough. It would take him a while to get used to being called Foxpaw and not Kit. Especially since his brother's name had been Paw. Realizing that every apprentice in the entire clan had his brother's name in it had been overwhelming. Everything he was taught about the clans when he was with his birth family had been a lie. There was a lot to unpack.
Kit searched in the crowd for Thornstalker, his heart panging when he realized how much she looked like Dawnfeather, "Heya." he mewed in greeting, reaching his head to touch his nose to hers with confidence. He was a bigger cat, nearly at her height already and he was just an apprentice.
