After what felt like ages of dragging their paws across mountainous tundra, the Clans had the forest in sight. It was time to go home. Unanimous voices had announced the decision to simply return back to camp, to observe the monthly vigil by returning to the lands that they truly called home. In their time away, it seemed the forest had healed, once more holding the familiar leaf-bare air that many warriors knew. Peace was on the horizon, and the trials appeared to be over...

Tigerstar let out a sigh of relief as soon as his clan had split off for their own territory. Part of him itched with excitement to see the territory he was so familiar with, territory he ran across but he had to wait. It didn't take long for the striped tom to lead his clan into camp. Everything seemed to be in order.. maybe a little worn down, nothing a couple days couldn't fix. They would fix up the nursery and the elders den but the warriors and apprentices could sleep under the stars tonight if need be. For now they could rest until the work began. "Everyone, we are home."

Trees and rocks had faded away into an endless expanse of snowy terrain, hardly any jutting of land to disrupt her view. A lingering scent had called to her nose, pulling her attention in even as exhaustion threatened to have her be nothing more than a useless pile of paws. It smelled familiar. It had to have been the home that had been whispered about in stories of her kithood, in the tales that she still even heard from her mother in her apprenticeship. She didn't believe it, not until it would be spoken aloud. After all, to the grey and golden striped molly, home had never truly existed. It had been with her family, all of whom she knew would undoubtedly be as exhausted as her.
It wasn't until the words tumbled from Tigerstar's maw that her own gaped open in surprise. That familiarity... it was Windclan's scent. The scent that she'd found on every one of her family member and clanmates' pelts. She was far too tired to have the endless energy that she would usually have had. Instead, she simply moved about, assessing their location.
"I will give my life to protect this place." She swore, a quiet mumble under her breath. In the peaceful air, it would undoubtedly be heard by a few clanmates, and there was a look of sleepy indignation that firmly placed itself on her face as she looked about. She now understood why they had left. It was so this place could live. Even as there was nothing but a calm silence from all the snow that blanketed their lands... it was theirs. This was Windclan.

Rapidpaw followed close behind her mentor glancing around as he announced that... this was it.
She had never seen home home before she blinked looking around, the dens looked a bit out of shape but it was amazing to finally see it after hearing about it for so long. She gave as an excited purr as she could muster in spite of being so tired from this long trip. Her choice was to curl up and sleep for a half moon bundled up with her siblings.
"we did it" she whispered mostly to herself, She glanced around for Tallshadow knowing he would be excited as well to be back to his home and he had mentioned earlier showing her around too once they got here.
Eaglefly trudged after the group giving a half sigh as they finally got in. That walk seemed to have taken forever and he was so ready to be finally once again be with the gentle rolling hills of their land and not by some cold lake. He knew for sure know he was not meant to be in riverclan.
Lavendercloud was near the end of the group but she caught up quickly once back on their home ground and glanced at the state of the nursery... ohhh it had sorta fell into a bit of a troubled state. She flicked her tail fiesty she was dead tired and having to sleep out in the cold one more nihgt wouldnt kill them she supposed. First thing tomorrow though she was fixing that place back up

Tallshadow didn’t feel his numb pads or the journey-ache that had settled into every lean line of his body. He bounded up the rise, his paws knew every twisting rabbit-trail and divot in WindClan’s territory. He was home. They were home. The fierce chill of leaf-bare plastered back his whiskers, but it was their wind, the breeze that was as familiar as a queen’s tongue to a kit. The golden tom paused, every inch of him silhouetted against the wide sprawl of the sky. It was like a weight had been lifted, the shadow that had chased them, the death, the hunger, the wolves, all of it was lost to the familiar song of the wind against his ears and the aching, familiar scent of the moor grass. The moor grass! It brushed against his golden pelt like a welcome as the warrior charged down the rise, WindClan’s camp neatly hidden in a tangle of gorse.
He flattened his ears as he pushed through the opening in the gorse wall. He couldn’t tell if it was smaller than he remembered, or if he had just gotten taller since he’d last left camp as an apprentice. Joy and grief chased each other in tireless circles in his chest. For so long, all he’d wanted was to go home but now he was here without Goldengale. His eyes found her favorite sunning spot, the one they tussled over as apprentices. The sheltered spot just outside the nursery where the gorse was thicker that she had hid in as a kit. The scattered remains of their nests, hidden in the grassy spot where the warriors and apprentices had spent their nights under the stars.
But he was home, and the moors would take care of those who survived, and he had five new siblings to share it with, to build memories with. He would always ache for Goldengale in that bone-deep way, the same ache he had for his littermates, one that would always live under his ribs. Tallshadow gently laid his tail over Crakepaw’s shoulders.
“Many before you already have. But the moors will take care of you too. We belong to them, and they belong to us. Welcome home, little sister.” Despite his exhaustion, the relieved light in his eyes couldn’t be dulled. He gestured towards a flat grass-covered corner set a bit away from the center of camp. “That’s where the warriors and apprentices sleep, make your nest over there tonight, when you’re ready.”

For moons and moons, WindClan had been sleeping under trees and in the shadows of mountains... crags, meadows, forests had passed beneath their paws, but never, not once, had there been a sight as beautiful to Minkpaw as the lengths and lengths of pale, snow-covered fields that stretched before them now. Her breath hitched as she took in the familiar scents and sights, places and things she thought she may never see again, for the first time in what felt like forever. Barely had she been an apprentice when their home had been stolen from them, and she was now old enough to be a warrior.
How things had changed, in their absence. WindClan was larger now, than when they'd left, but not the same. Old faces were gone, faces that would never see these moors again... and new faces now beheld them for the first time. It was a bittersweet thing, but there was one thing that was undisputable... she was glad to be home. Minkpaw longed to go streaking across the moor, to that hollow where she'd been born, where she'd taken her first steps, eaten her first prey... but discipline kept her paws in line with the rest of WindClan. They would return home together, the same way they'd left.
As they neared camp, Minkpaw stuck close to her father, pausing as he did to address the clan, and swishing her long tail slowly back and forth. Her eyes flicked to and fro, taking in the sights. She'd never seen camp so disheveled before, but it had never been so beautiful, either. The red tabby smiled, rubbing against Tigerstar's side and then looking up to him, voice quiet enough for just them to hear. "I know you probably have leader things to do before bed... but can I sleep with you? Just for tonight?"

OATPAW
Oatpaw padded into camp behind his Clanmates, bleary-eyed and exhausted. He felt frozen to the touch, and he was rather looking forward to curling up in a nice, warm nest, and getting a proper night's sleep for once. A sneeze overtook him as he tried to look around. He shook his head, as though to shake off the journey, before taking in the sight that was WindClan's camp.
Home. This was home. He'd only heard of WindClan's real home in stories - from reminiscent warriors, cats who had grown up in this very spot and were desperately homesick, desperate to come back home. It was gorgeous. The makeshift camp that he'd called his home for nearly as many moons as he'd been alive had nothing on this camp. The dip in the ground, the nests lining the ground beneath the stars, the endless moor...he felt sad he hadn't grown up here. He'd been barely a moon old when the Clans had to leave, and he didn't have many memories of this place - but oh, how he regretted that.
His paws itched. He longed to hare across the territory, to rub against the gorse bushes that guarded the camp, to fill this place with his scent and his voice and his being. It was disheveled, abandoned - no cat had set foot here for a few moons, and Oatpaw could see small patches of the nursery and medicine den that might need some fixing up...but it was home.
There was no more dwelling on the past. No more makeshift camps or bittersweet musings of what could have been. There was just home, and the memories he had yet to make. Oatpaw sat, curling his tail around his paws and watching his breaths punctuate the air in raspy, uneven puffs. I'll make new memories here. I'll fill this place with them from wall to wall.
He nudged Quickfrost, who was gazing at the camp softly beside him. "Will you show me the territory tomorrow?"

You can’t fix the past, but you can change the future.
They were home. Sootstorm skidded to a stop when they entered the familiar hollow, stunned gaze sweeping over the home that he had known for so long. He had grown up here, trained here, felt joy and sorrow here. All around him, his clanmates were cheering, either in awe of a place that they had never stepped foot in, or relieved to be back once more. He looked down at his kits, Rapidpaw, Crakepaw, Fidgetpaw, Heatherpaw and Stoatkit. They may not have been born in this camp, but this was their home now. Oatpaw, Galestorm and Cloudypetal, too, had not been born here. Molehill and Daisyfang were too young when they began the journey to remember this place. So many of his clanmates had no memory of this land. The thought pained the deputy in a way that he had not expected. He looked at the ruined dens once more, and mustered up more energy. "We need to set up a place for the kits and elders to sleep," He mewed, directing his statement towards Tigerstar. If his brother agreed, he'd set up patrols instantly. They were back home. No more staying out in the rain, unsure of when dogs and wolves might suddenly charge into their camp. His Clan would be safe for once in a long while.

Galestorm
As the clan arrived, first setting foot on the moor was like reliving a dream. Galestorm had been here before, but his paws had never touched this grass. The scent of heather was familiar to him, stirring up memories of a cat who once lived before him. He raised his head and looked to the sky, where the warriors of Silverpelt greeted them, welcoming WindClan back to their rightful home.
We're back, Sageleaf, he prayed silently to his StarClan mentor, hopeful that she would be watching them now. His paws made their way naturally through the tussocks, as though they were leading him. When the clan looked down into the remains of the WindClan camp, Galestorm's mind flooded with visions both familiar and faraway. The eerie feeling made his fur stand on end.
He picked his way down through the gorse and into the camp with the rest of his clanmates to reach Sootstorm's side, where he stood with Tigerstar. Galestorm dipped his head in respect and waited politely for them to finish speaking.
"Sootstorm, Tigerstar," Galestorm, mewed, his gaze serious, "Where would you like me to start the repairs?" Despite the exhaustion in his limbs, there was work that needed to be done. Sootstorm was right. Queens were about to have kits, and elders needed a place to rest their weary bones. Daisyfang would need a dry den to store her herbs.

Cloudypetal wasn't excited at this whole prospect of 'going home'. The lake territories were her home. Everything in her body was screaming that this wasn't right. The tales of the senior warriors had spun about this 'magical moor' that WindClan had sprinted through for generations seemed to fall through the moment she laid eyes on it. Sure, it was beautiful - but it was no doubt exaggerated by the riminicest warriors.
She was exhausted, and it reflected in her droopy mismatched hazel gaze. She watched the excitement that spread across her clan but she didn't have the energy to join in. Thankfully, though, this marked the end of their journey - and her body ached for a proper, comfortable nest.
She nodded as Galestorm offered to begin repairs. Great idea! "Let me know how I can help too." She offered, her tone dull with exhaustion. Though, it was nothing she couldn't muscle through.

Daisyfang followed the rest of WindClan through the unfamiliar vastness of the moor. She really hadn’t expected it to be this big. The snow glittered gently under the moon that welcomed them home, and the sense of relief that rolled off her clanmates was so strong it felt like she could reach out and snag it with a claw. The bi-colored molly pressed her pelt against her mother’s, following her gaze to the tangled, weather-worn den that still smelled faintly of milk and kits.
”I was born here, wasn’t I?” She asked, reaching back into the corners of her memory for that hint of heather and home. The one that she only knew in the context of her mother’s shape and the tumbling bodies of her siblings. It felt right to be back, to see the ease that settled over the clan as they picked their way through their rightful home. They belonged here, even if it wasn’t what she knew. She could know it. She wanted to know it. To feel the wind against her whiskers and walk the hallowed ground she knew only from stories.

When she returned to camp, her tears were dry and her head was held high, a soft smile on her maw as she entered her home. While she loved travel and exploration, there was nothing quite like the sweet scent of heather and dust that made up Windclan camp.
She heard Daisyfangs remark and she smiled, “Do you need any help with sorting herbs?” she inquired with a tilt of her head, she had often had lessons from Batsong and her sister, Sparrowthorn, when they were medicine cats, as her youngest brother was gravely ill most of his life. Due to Vulturepaw’s illness, she had spent many nights sleeping in the medicine den with him, keeping him company. If Daisyfang needed any help, she would love to assist. Plus organizing herbs just seemed much nicer than picking up sticks to rebuild dens.

Kestrelchirp stretched and shook out his paws as they entered the camp. The dredges of illness still clung to him and wore him out, but at least his head was clearing up. His eyes scanned the clearing, giving Eaglefly a happy nudge with his shoulder as he walked passed before hanging back. His orange pelt nearly blended in with the dead, Leafbare grass. He was looking for someone, someone that could truly warm his bones. Nectarflower... He hadn't gotten to talk to her in a while. In the back of his mind, he pushed away the nagging thought... Jay would never snark back at whoever was leader here again...
Coyotegrin breathed when Sleepyhollow finally returned, her small frame scampering to her oldest child. Cats who had never touched this territory streamed around her and grim realization still clung to her face. Coyotegrin was the eldest warrior now, and the loss of it all still hung hollow in her chest. A wasted life, it felt like. In her youth, she was the rising star. But Shrikestar's selfish decisions had pushed her aside and wasted. Shaking her head, the worried mother bombarded her kit. "Where were you? I was worried." She quietly demanded.
Nectarflower inhaled shakily at the sensation of the familiar moorland soil beneath her paws and simply took it all in as Tigerstar lead the tired, bruised forces of Windclan back home. Gone was the harsh rocky terrain that scraped her paws with every step. No longer did she had to weather storms and wolves in a foreign land. They never did find Finchspeckle...not even on the return trip, but the familiar sights and smells were enough to at least temporarily relieve the she-cat.
Glancing around at her clanmates, Nectarflower could easily see that most of them felt the same as she did. The kits, apprentices, and even some warriors were entirely unfamiliar with the land they had come to, but they would soon see this place as home too. There was nothing the land around the lake had that they couldn't enjoy here. Not just that, but there were countless generations of Windclan warriors and leaders buried in this soil. Their ancestors had carved out a place for them here - from the tunnels to the paw prints worn into the stone...this was home.
Smiling happily at each clanmate she passed, Nectarflower paused in the middle of the camp, turning in circled as she examined the damage. Luckily, nothing appeared to have made its home here while they'd been gone, so it would be easy to return their camp to its former glory. Her favorite hiding spot as a kit and even an apprentice was mostly unscathed, though, and just looking at it nearly brought tears to the she-cat's eyes. Stars, how she had missed this place.
Then, her attention landed on a comfortingly familiar pelt - Kestrelchirp. With a flick of her tail, she bounded up to the tom with a bright smile and gestured to the rest of the clan. "Isn't this great!" She purred enthusiastically. "I can't wait to show the young cats the flower fields in newleaf - they'll love it." Still purring, she glanced over at Eaglefly curiously. He looked tired. "How's Eaglefly doing? Do you think he'd appreciate some company?"
(Nectarflower is talking to Kestrelchirp!)

A long-furred she-cat with a smooth pelt trotted alongside the rest of the clan. Vibrant blue eyes drank in the scenery, mapping it out in her mind, and longing to explore the vast open moors. Every ounce of exhaustion melted away as they fell into the familiar territory. Her clanmate's shoulders relaxed further with each long stride. Admittedly, it was hard for the young apprentice to keep up. Despite her natural Windclan speed, something her lanky and lean frame with wide paws was built for, the clan hadn't run so freely in her lifetime. It was thrilling the way that her heart pounded. Heatherpaw wanted more.
Her eyes were trained on the pelt of her mentor, Tallshadow, and she followed suit as he entered the camp. It was well-hidden despite being so open. She marveled at the way it so naturally settled into the earth. Traversing through the mountains was the opposite of a permanent shelter, so this ancestral home was met with a whole new level of appreciation. Heatherpaw kneaded her claws into the cold earth. Instead of the sharpness of frigid stone underneath her pads, this was almost cooling and refreshing. She shook out her coat as she settled next to Tallshadow and Crakepaw.
"What do you need me to do, Tallshadow?" The yawn that threatened to break through her teeth was stifled by a clenching jaw. Heatherpaw didn't want him or her sister to know how tired she was after traveling the full day. She fell back on her haunches and sat up straight, watching the rest of her clanmates settle back into their home. As much as she wanted to explore and learn every den in the camp, what needed to be done took priority.
