Quillpaw's Battle Assessment

Quillpaw would normally let the voices of other shadows pass over his head, but he knew better than to let his guard down around the deputy. Vicious yellow eyes shone brightly as the tom spoke, voice grating and sly. What a monster. What Sablestrike instructed didn't seem extremely difficult at first, until Quillpaw realised that by opening himself to predators, he was not only putting himself in danger, but also revealing his fighting style to an enemy, who had all the time to observe and ponder from the side. And what if something went wrong? Sablestrike could just stand back and let Quillpaw die, then return to camp with tales of an accident. The other shadows would believe him.

Quillpaw took in a deep breath. He musn't let Sablestrike get to him. He'll just quickly find a predator, kill it, and get away as soon as possible. He scented the chilly air, ears angling to catch the scents of other predators. It wasn't long before the scents of a weasel. His hackles rose as the sleek creature came face-to-face with him, beady black eyes hungry and fierce. Quillpaw took in a deep breath, then hurled himself forward. His body moved naturally, claws scoring the creature's head with a precision he didn't know he had.

The weasel hissed, and lunged forward to sink it's teeth into his leg. Quillpaw hissed as pain shot through him, and quickly tried shaking the beast off, but it held on like a leech. His claws raked the weasel's face furiously, scoring it's muzzle with wounds. Blood splattered the snowy land like rain, and the air was filled with furious hisses and pain-filled yelps. Quillpaw batted the weasel again and again, but still it clung on, though it's eyes had began to glaze over, likely from pain. He didn't like that look.

The weasel still clung on like a bug, and finally Quillpaw had enough. His fangs closed around the creature's neck, tearing out it's throat with a brutal rage. Blood dribbled down his muzzle and trickled down his chest, staining his fur a dark crimson. Quillpaw felt the weasel's grip on his leg slag, and shook it off quickly. He gave his leg a few experimental licks, ignoring how blood bubbled up to greet him, before stealing a glance at Sablestrike. Had he pleased the deputy's sick pleasures? Wait- would the tom take this moment of weakness to finish him off? Quillpaw felt the fur on his back rise, and he stumbled away from the yellow-eyed shadow. Don't- Sablestrike wouldn't kill him now, would he?
