Silverpaw's Assessment [Battle]

There was a new energy to Acornstem as she led Silverpaw through the forest, pointing out the sights as she went. While a tour of the territory wasn't what was planned, she could hardly pass up the opportunity as Silverpaw had freshly become an apprentice as they left...And with her training almost complete, there was little time to explain things otherwise. In truth however, her training nearly being done is what had led the two out of the camp in the first place. Acornstem was determined to be more focused on the apprentices, to let them adjust to a whole new territory for them and make sure their training and early warriorship went smoothly. So she had approached Silverpaw - an assessment was to be done.

There had been some debate for the deputy on which type of assessment would be done, but in the end she had decided on a battle. To ask Silverpaw to go hunting in still unfamiliar territory - with not all of the dangers that might lurk being sniffed out - wouldn't be fair to the assessment process. Coming to a stop in a clearing - an area that sent a rush of happiness through her as it was where she and Firefly had made a point to spar in - she turned to Silverpaw with a gentle smile. "As I've said before we left - the plan today is a battle assessment. I want to see how your combat skills are shaping up. Before we start, do you have any questions?" she asked with a tilt of her head, wanting to give her a say before this all started.

Silveroaw trotted after their deputy, ears perked hanging on to every word that Acornstem spoke. There was little time left to learn these things before warriorhood, and so Silverpaw drank it in, as they did with every lesson. Despite Leafbare, ThunderClan territory was the most alive they had ever seen it, so different to navigating through it to reach the lakes. The juxtaposition was strange, but appreciated. The apprentice asked questions of the territory when needed, but for the most the part they just listened. Eventually, they came to a pause and Silverpaw knew now the assessment Acornstem had mentioned was going to take place. “No questions.” replied Silverpaw. She understood battle, there was nothing tricky about that, Quailprowler had taught her well when it came to fighting. Perhaps Silverpaw was over confident, but perhaps today that would be a blessing. Her muscles tensed as they steeled themself for the oncoming fight.

Acornstem's expression brightened with a nod as Silverpaw spoke. She hadn't expected any but it wasn't something she had wanted to overlook if Silverpaw had questions. With that all sorted, she dropped into a crouch with a smile as she watched the apprentice. "I'll allow you the first move - attack when ready!" she meowed - feeling like it only felt right. While she was going to be mindful to be careful with what she did, there was no denying the fact that she was obviously better trained than Silverpaw. Even if Acornstem did her best to preform on an even field, she wanted to give Silverpaw a better chance - and allowing her to get the first hit in seemed the most important.

Silverpaw didn't need to be told twice, Quailprowler had told her not to hesitate in a fight, and so while Acornstem was their deputy. for now she would be an enemy of ThunderClan. Quickly, the apprentice took in her opponent stance, working out what Acornstem's weaknesses could be and how to exploit them. Using their powerful long limbs, Silverpaw sprang forwards and slammed their forepaws into the deputy's side for a powerful blow. There was a slight stagger to Acornstem's recovery, which earned an appreciative ear tick from Silverpaw. The apprentice was mindful of the warrior still, and evacuated her space, instead opting to circle her, belly close to the floor and protected. Silverpaw would not embarrass themself or Quailprowler by failing.

Acornstem's paws scraped against the ground as Silverpaw rammed into her side, struggling to keep her balance with the pure force of the apprentice's blow. As she regained her balance, she watched as Silverpaw circled her - low to the ground. It took any openings towards her belly out of the situation which was smart, any strike there would be the most damage but it left her open in a different way as the deputy spun and leapt at Silverpaw, paws planting on her back to force her fully to the ground in a pin.

Acornstem used Leap-and-Hold on Silverpaw, dealing 6 damage and costing 15 stamina.

The dirt beneath Silverpaw was cold and hard as they slammed into it. Acornstem held them down hard and fast, paws pressing into the apprentice's spine. Silverpaw writhed beneath their deputy, claws digging into the ground to push themselves up, and flip the situation. With a surge of energy, the younger cat managed to find footing, and threw themself backwards, sending Acornstem with her. She was free from the pin, and quickly on their paws, striking out again.

Acornstem stumbled back as Silverpaw managed to find her footing and shove the small deputy off of her - a brief smirk crossing her face with a surge of pride. She had barely managed to catch herself once again before Silverpaw had spun to strike out at her, head turning to ease the blow before she lashed out with a strike of her own.

Acornstem used Front Paw Strike on Silverpaw, dealing 6 damage and costing 7 stamina.

Acornstem's brief but appreciative smile, had been just enough to unbalance Silverpaw and give Acornstem room to strike back. As focused as they were it was hard to forget she was fighting a cat she was sworn to protect. Best to end the fight now as to avoid any later guilt. Using a move, they'd once used on Quailprowler to unbalance her, Silverpaw was stepping around the deputy reaching for her fluffy tail. Silverpaw's teeth closed around the limb and with a sharp tug they pulled backwards, bringing Acornstem down with it. "You are beat." meowed Silverpaw with a grin now that the threat had been dealt with. The tall cat took several steps back giving room for Acornstem to recover, and the adrenaline of battle to ebb away.

A surprised yelp escaped Acornstem as teeth sank into her fur - the fluff keeping any blood being drawn but it didn't save her from being pulled to the ground. A gasp escaped her as she collapsed into the snow,  laying there stunned by the ferocity and smart thinking of Silverpaw before she caught the apprentice's words. She turned to look at her before a laugh escaped her, her expression bright.

"I can't even argue with that! You got me!" she meowed as she pushed herself to her paws, shaking her pelt to scatter the snow that clung to her. "I'm impressed Silverpaw, you are a masterful fighter. Quailprowler taught you well and ThunderClan will thrive when you are a warrior," she praised as she padded to the apprentice, gently shoving her with her shoulder as she gave her a smirk. "I'll be sure to chat with Quailprowler and Mottlestar soon - I think its clear you are warrior material. But for now, I think you deserve the best prey we have on the pile for beating me!"

With another joyous laugh, having not felt so content in a spar since her duels with Firefly, she led the apprentice back to the camp in celebration.
