The sun had just risen, promising a cold but clear day ahead. Wolfblossom sat on the tallbranch replacement she had found, gazing out over the camp. Another day, and another of Falconmoon and Thornstalker's kits were to become an apprentice. Choosing mentors for her grandkits had been no easy task, but she was excited to get this ceremony underway despite wanting to curl back into her own nest.
"Let all cats old enough to climb a tree gather for a clan meeting!"
Brackenkit stared longily at the apprentice den where Shatteredpaw and now Honeypaw resided. It wasn’t fair! He was the eldest, and strongest he should have been apprenticed first. Still the day was young, and the sun bright, and Wolfblossom was calling another clan meeting. Perhaps this time it would be his turn. The tom pawed the stray darkening tuft of fur atop his head and padded to join the gathering cats, puffing out his chest.
From the corner of his eye, the cream cat spotted his siblings approaching. ”I bet after this there’ll be three of us in that den!” purred Brackenkit.
Wolfblossom watched as Brackenkit stared longingly at the apprentice den, remembering how she had felt much the same way before her own ceremony. Hours had felt like days, days had felt like seasons. Today though, Brackenkit was in luck. As the clan gathered, the deputy called to him, unable to hide the excitement in her voice. "Brackenkit, step forward." Apprentice ceremonies would never be something to tire of, she thought. When the young tom had stepped forward, she continued. "You have reached the age of six moons old, and it's time you become an apprentice. From this day until you earn your warrior name, you shall be known as Brackenpaw. Your mentor will be Foxtrot. I trust him to train you well."
Brackenkit was on his paws before he even realised he was moving, eagerly stepping up to greet Wolfblossom, and his mentor, Foxtrot. ”Finally!” he said excitedly touching his nose to both cats ”I’ll be a warrior within a moon i bet.” The tom cats tail swished excitedly, and he turned to bask in the attention as the clan chanted his new name Brackenpaw. His smile was wide, and he winked at his siblings who were gathered amongst the other cats when he caught their eyes. Poor Foxtrot had no idea what Wolfblossom had signed them up for.
Honeypaw followed Shatteredpaw from the apprentice den at the familiar echo of the clan summons. ""It's time!" she mewed to Shatteredpaw as she saw Brackenkit excitedly approach, anticipation in every pawstep. She purred in agreement with her brother as he predicted the outcome of the meeting. It wasn't surprising he was joining them so soon, and she would be happy to have more of their crew together again.
She situated herself near the front of the crowd of cats, her tail wrapped neatly around her paws as she looked on and proudly watched her confident brother be named an apprentice.
""Brackenpaw!" she yowled, her high-pitched voice echoing in the chorus of their clanmates. Her chest swelled with happiness and pride for her brother, and she exchanged a quick, knowing glance with Shatteredpaw. As the cheering died down, she turned to him and whispered, "now we will be able to find him a nest next to ours in the apprentice den!"
Honeypaw caught Brackenpaw's wink and twitched her whiskers in response. "I bet it will be half a moon," she remarked to him, and playfully headbutted his shoulder. ""When you're ready, come to the apprentice den. Shatteredpaw and I have found a really good spot for you!"

Shatteredpaw watched proudly as at last his brother joined them in the Apprentice's den. He shared a knowing glance with his sister before they padded up to Brackenpaw. "I've been collecting feathers," He added to Honeypaw's comment on finding a nest for Brackenpaw. The serious tom didn't comment on Brackenpaw's declaration of reaching warriorhood within a moon, only dip his head in acknowledgement. Something told him his brother would cause a lot of trouble for his mentor, and Shatteredpaw knew there would be nothing any of them would be able to do. But just in case his brother listened this time... Shatteredpaw leaned into his brother and lowered his voice so that Honeypaw couldn't hear. "Remember our pact. We have to train well and set good role models for Honeypaw and Harekit... so don't mess up during training, okay?"

Harekit let out a weak huff as the last of his siblings was made an apprentice. He was happy for them, but he was also saddened by the fact that he couldn't be apart of their group. He was betting they would be warriors before he even stepped foot in the apprentices den. The golden tom, stood from his spot on shaky legs and turned to disappear into the medicine den. They didn't need him to bother him.
