Faded Hope [Riverclan Finale]

Vixenstar seethed as Perchfall’s claws made contact with her body, a guttural growl emerging from the depths of her chest. Eyes narrowed to slits, she stared down the she-cat, not letting the blow do too much damage- or at least visible damage. If she showed any sign of weakness, Perchfall would know it, and Vixenstar absolutely would not allow that. Feinting to one side to confuse the she-cat, she quickly shifted and rammed directly into her side, shaking off the shoot of pain in sent into her. ”This is a decision you will go on to regret, Perchfall, if you walk away alive.” With Perchfall unable to attack back, Vixenstar spat in her face, and cuffed her on the head with unsheathed claws. A tear in the she-cat’s ear emerged from where her claws has just been, scarlet blood welling up and dripping from the wound.

Vixenstar used Dishonorable Charge, dealing -12 HP and using -20 SP. Perchfall is stunned for two turns. Keen Eye is active.

Hollyleaf yowled, feeling sharp teeth clamp around her leg. Meanwhile, the ghostly cat's tail wasn't paid attention to — her teeth reached for her opponent's tail and bit down on it, forcibly knocking her aside. "You don't have as much control over the Forest as you'd like to think you have. You and your kin will be defeated!"

Sparkfrost watched as a young warrior charged a Dark Forest cat and was tossed aside like a limp piece of prey. Blood sprayed the clearing. He'd been in Starclan for sometime, forgetting the nature of this world. The late Riverclan tom had always sought after the joys and goodness in the world, even after losing his memories and leaving behind the pressures that came along with it. After his death, the pale calico had regained his memory and even in the lax moments, cared fiercely for cats below. Seeing them now and then never quite sated his unyielding spirit. This was the final stand, his destiny surely, in which he could give himself for the living kin surrounding him now.

Ever a cheerful soul, as he turned to face a Dark Forest cat, there was a fire behind his eyes, "You then! Let's do this. I've been itching to wrestle with a beast like you." There was a flicker of a determined smile as he leaped onto Sorrelfern with outstretched claws.

"Hmmm.. That's fine with me, but I'm certain you won't win this." The calico she-cat stated, as she took the brunt of the tom's attack. it hurt that was for certain but she couldn't show it. At least not to much, this was a fight to show their strength after all. They would defeat Starclan once and for all.

Blood met Vinethorn's fangs, and a satisfied grin spread across her face, though it was soon replaced with an agonized yowl. The she-cat she was opposing pulled her tail, forcing her to the ground. The pain was overwhelming and she struggled to recover.

"You don't have as much control over the Forest as you'd like to think you have. You and your kin will be defeated!"

Vinethorn sneered as the Riverclanner meowed on. "Oh really? Well, if I can't survive, then neither can you!" A new rush of energy surged through her, and she leaped forward. She lashed out at her, hoping to inflict as much damage as possible.

Vinethorn used Random Recall and Front Paw Strike, dealing 12 (10+2) damage and costing 12 (7+5) SP!

Perchfall's heart pounded, an unfamiliar rush of adrenaline spiking through her body as the fight began. It had been quite a while since she had actually been in a battle. The last one had been... had it been that goose, with Poppyshine? The weasel with Egretstorm? No, maybe it was the fox. Well, Vixenstar was certainly more like the fox than any of those other predators. There was anger in her eyes, and cunning. Before she knew it, the gray and white she-cat was stunned on the ground, unable to move, the wind knocked completely out of her lungs. Stars, it's been far too long since I was in a battle with another cat... I am far out of my depth here. In comparison to a leader of the Dark Forest, her fighting skills were near nonexistent. Incapable of movement, she tried her best to fight off the stun, but couldn't fight back as Vixenstar spat in her face and tore her ear.

Stoic as ever, Perchfall tried not to wince. However, the pain in her ear was sharp and distracting. She hadn't been wounded since the fight with the fox... she was unaccustomed to this sort of pain. A thin stream of scarlet blood trickled down her face, mixing with Vixenstar's spit. She tried to shake off the stun and wipe away the liquid. What was I expecting, a fair fight? I doubt that fox-heart knows the meaning of "fair." Well, if she couldn't fight back, she could at least glance around to see how her Clanmates were doing. Hollyleaf and Dovesight were battling some Dark Forest cats... was Rushtalon okay? She couldn't see him. There was no longer only one starry cat, but two-- and Perchfall recognized the other one. "Dewlight," she whispered, feeling a pang of sorrow strike her heart. The former deputy whose place I stole... she would be doing far better than me, wouldn't she? I bet she would have driven the Dark Forest out immediately, and Jaystar along with them. I should tell her I'm sorry. No, this wasn't the time to linger on what could have happened. She had to fight. She had to fight Vixenstar. But how could she shake off this awful dizziness that made her head spin?

Soon, someone interrupted her train of thought. Another cat entered the battle with her, slamming into the looming shade of Vixenstar and moving between them. Poppyshine. The young calico had a determined look on her face, claws unsheathed. Just like the goose. Poppyshine believed in her. She could do this. With a new burst of energy, Perchfall tried to force herself onto her feet. She managed to stumble to her paws, but she was still far too dizzy to do anything but stand. "Vixenstar is already dead... we just need to put her back where she belongs," she responded, letting a calm determination fill her voice. She could do this. They could do this.

Perchfall is stunned for one more turn.

Owlshriek scarcely had time to blink before Rushtalon lunged at Whitesnake. All at once, the conversation between him and Whitesnake came back. Starclan never came down to assist physically. Or did they? Yowling became white noise as Owlshriek took in the night sky as it should have been. How beautiful.

Then, the fighting roared back into his ears, and the tom's gaze raked their camp. Who does he fight with? Yellow eyes fixed on Perchfall, then Poppyshine. Then, it suddenly was no longer a question. The warrior's gaze landed on Hollyleaf, his old mentor struggling to hold her own against Vinethorn. The shadowy cat's claws flung blood, driving towards his mentor's flank. Feeling a spark of fury in his veins, the tom took off, trusting Poppyshine to hold her own.

Within the space of the two, the warrior took the deep slice to his pelt, dragging it up to his hips. Yet, despite the stinging pain, the warrior spun to face Vinethorn. "It will be in your best interest to leave her alone." The tom mewed, shockingly calm despite the fury inside. "You smell like a frog smeared with dirt, left in the sun for a moon to draw in maggots." With a shake of his pelt, Owlshriek continued with a smirk. "And you fight like one too."

Owlshriek uses a Blocking Leap, taking the 12 damage intended for Hollyleaf. He takes 12 damage, and uses 5 stamina while Hollyleaf's hp returns to 26.

Greynose had kept his head down for two moons, biding his time, observing the Dark Forest cats as they plodded about like they owned the place... and, well, technically they did at the time. Jaystar had refused to stand up to them, had let them in, for good reason, admittedly, but it had hardly been pleasant.

The deputy, as a result, had been cast to the side like the bones of a fish after a meal, which Greynose had honestly felt rather bad about. He wished he could do something but what was he? He wasn't even 12 moons old, he couldn't stand up to literal undead ghosts with the personality of adders. Perhaps some would call him a coward, but he was hardly doing nothing out of fear, he just knew struggling would be pointless. He wasn't afraid of death, not even when he knew his immortal soul wouldn't've been able to even ascend to Starclan. He only lived for his clan, and hence, he'd die for his clan, but dying and not accomplishing anything by doing so was hardly 'dying for your clan' now was it?

He didn't mingle with the tormented souls brought to life either, why would he? 'Keep your friends close and your enemies closer some might say, but they smelt like rot and decay, he didn't want to be anywhere near him lest he end up losing his sense of smell completely, which was a bad thing for his long-term survival, surprisingly.

He didn't attend gatherings, well, not visibly, he stayed out of sight and out of mind, watching from the warrior den, staying silent, not interjecting. There was no point chatting with their captors, really, even if said captors claimed they were 'trying to make Riverclan stronger', whatever that meant.

This Gathering though, it was different, and that change happened very rapidly. It started out as per usual, Vixenstar tormenting Perchfall, everyone being subdued, quiet. Then, the stars returned, Starclan being late to the party, and not even fashionably so.... ok so perhaps he was a bit bitter towards his ancestors. Who could blame him though, they were supposed to keep their little forest of StarClan forgive us under control, doing all the wrong things to actually do so, he might add, and look at what happened, cats died outside of the natural order of things, suffering, pain, unrest.

Well, he supposed in the end, his ghostly ancestors still had the minds of mortals, and mortals weren't perfect, hence, they were not perfect. Still... they had one job.

The fluffy warrior froze as something caught his eye. From one of the fallen cats a familiar face appeared, bathed dramatically in stars. His rounded ears stood at attention, shock on his expression.  "... Teach?"

There was no time for reunions though. One of the dark forest cats, Greyfeather, immediately attacked her. His form became rigid as he saw the spirit pin her down, clawing at her. What could he do though, physical attacks didn't work-

Wait... the cat looked... less incorporeal, it seemed. He looked around, taking stock of his surroundings, gaining his bearings. His clanmates were attacking their captors... and seemingly doing damage. Not much, it looked like, but still, damage. Standing up from where he flopped on the floor of the warrior's den, his gaze became uncharacteristically serious, silvery eyes now flinty with a cold, slow-burning rage. Sure, these guys had it rough going from the eternal punishment he heard they went through, rather immoral stuff if you thought about it too hard.

But if they wanted revenge, then maybe they should stop bothering the mortal plane and keep their StarClan forgive us fights in the afterlife... oh, and also. They were hurting his mentor

She's gone through enough, and he wasn't about to let them end her retirement early.

Stalking forward quietly, he slipped through the fights in a fashion more fitting for Shadowclan rather than Riverclan, he wasn't a clumsy apprentice any longer... but he also wasn't an experienced warrior... hey, teamwork made the dream work, and hopefully, he wouldn't get sent to retirement early for relying on that little fact.

Snarl forming on his usually-soft expression, he coiled and launched at the dark forest cat with a yowl. Hooked claws meant for fishing outstretched as he briefly had a thirst for blood, specifically this cat's blood. A pity they didn't have any.

After the fact, he growled lowly, voice cold, level, and grey eyes venomous.

"Don't touch my mentor, you undead piece of carrion."
