Timbersun tightened his grip as the tom spoke, his ear flicking with disinterest. He clearly seemed to care about the code, but threatening to kill Windclan because of a few cats that were of rogue blood (and had proven themselves completely) was insane. "I'm not of rogue blood. My mother might've died a rogue, but she was born Windclan, even if she was taken at birth, I was born Windclan, you can't pretend that every Windclanner is a rogue-" He might've said more but not before he felt a sharp pain come from his ear, causing him to let go.

Before he could process, he pulled away, hearing something rip. His ear was now full of blood, as much as he tried to flick away the blood, it kept coming, it wasn't going to stop unless he went to the medicine cat, so, for now.

He went straight for the tail, biting down and pulling it backwards sharply, hissing. You know what? If he cares so much about the code... "You fight like a rogue, yet you call me one?" Sure, maybe he did exactly what he did, but it'd be funny to see him get offended.

Ratpaw’s heart felt like it was in his ears, as his body stung and bled and yet he felt more focused than ever. He couldn’t let the other apprentice hurt him, or anyone else! And so he bit hard and felt something snap, with only a belated feeling of being sorry for it. And then the screaming molly yowled, louder than she ever had before, and Ratpaw’s ears rang. It was only when Ratpaw tasted blood — a lot of it, like a gush in his maw, that he realized the tail he was holding wasn’t... it wasn’t...

Starclan... oh no... oh no!

Ratpaw felt frozen, in horror, as he watched the limping, crying apprentice bleed freely from the Starclan-forsaken stump of her tail. It almost didn’t feel real until Ratpaw realized he was holding... he was tasting cat... he had a tail...

It fell from his jaws with a soft thud. And immediately, with a sickening lurch, Ratpaw vomited in the dirt. His paws shook, tongue tasting like bile, cuts bleeding, and couldn’t look. He kept his eyes averted. How... he hadn’t...

Ratpaw vomited again, or at least his body tried — there wasn’t much left. He felt sick, and he very much wanted to go home. But when he turned, he almost collided with a mess of furiously hissing, snarling cat.

It was another shock, but one that shook him to his senses. He recognized Burningwing, saw the brown tabby tom yank his tail — and immediately, with a rush of frantic energy, he leaped. The little tom went claws-first, slashing the Windclan brute across the muzzle. It just — that wasn’t right!

Burningwing listened to the Windclanner speak and narrowed his eyes at the claim that they were pure Windclan. He had his doubts. "So many of you are not true Windclan cats... it basically doesn't matter if the entire clan gets wiped out just to save the last remaining few. Windclan is dead. There is no point in delaying the inevitable, complete demise that you have all brought upon yourselves." Even with the Windclan cat biting into his tail, he was ready to retaliate and strike again. What he wasn't ready for was the apprentice to come out of left field and join the fray. He scowled, preferring to fight his own battles rather than have help.

He sighed... literally and actually sighed despite the pain in his tail. ... Was that vomit around that apprentice's mouth? Blood too but that was normal. What had happened? As the apprentice wide-eyed and frantic retaliated on Burningwing's behalf, the dark tom's eyes fell on a tail, still twitching, on the ground. The piles of vomit nearby told Burningwing everything he needed to know. He actually chuckled at the sight. He'd be teasing Ratpaw for having a weak stomach later, even though the apprentice was new to battle.

The she-cat fell, and Mistyfalcon stood panting for a moment, dark eyes lifting to scan the rest of the fighting cats. Burningwing and Ratpaw were fighting a Windclan warrior, Batglow seemed to have another Windclanner in check... Murkystar and Daystar were fighting too. The warrior he'd been fighting was of no concern, and an apprentice was running, bloody and screeching. He hardly spared her a glance. Not his clanmate, not his problem.

Daystar however, was going to be a problem if she got her claws into Murkystar. Mistyfalcon lunged forward, already-bloody claws slashing at the other leader's flanks.

Daystar blinked in shock as a high-pitched scream echoed throughout the air. Mistypaw... what in StarClan's name had happened to her? They were down a cat now, but the she-cat was still slightly relieved that the apprentice hadn't been afraid to run instead of staying put and risking further injury. Ashfall was down next, and the leader felt a rush of anger flood her veins as another ShadowClanner turned to attack her as well. Daystar had never been attacked by two cats at once, but she knew that she needed to push past any fear she felt if she was going to walk out of this with all four paws intact. The leader steadily rose to her paws, attempting to bite back any dizziness she felt before instinctively lashing out at the first cat she laid eyes upon, Murkystar.

As two of WindClan's patrol retreated from the battle, one far louder than the other, Murkystar braced herself. If the same had happened to her patrol, she would have surged up with anger... Which is exactly what Daystar did. She took the hit, moving in closer as the paws made contact with her shoulders to get her own attack in. As she pulled away, she glanced over to Mistyfalcon, about to nod to him when she realized his state. Her eyes widened as they moved from one injury to the next before she was forced to turn back to Daystar. Great stars above, what had happened to him?

Murkystar glanced his way, and Mistyfalcon could feel the shock practically rolling off of her. He gave her a quick shake of his head in response. He was fine, and the other cat had got off worse. He wasn't about to stop fighting just because he'd been roughed up, though the Windclanner he'd fought had done her best to keep him from doing so.

Mistyfalcon slashed at Daystar again, not at all thrilled that she'd laid claws on his mate and leader. The sooner they put this one down... There were two others standing, and one of them didn't look like he'd be standing for much longer. Daystar and the she-cat Batglwo was fighting- Swiftspirit, wasn't she the one that Burningwing had been screeching about? Well, Swiftspirit couldn't fight off all of them.

He released the She-cat as soon as he felt claws batting at his head. He quickly recoiled a bit out of range before jumping forward and slashing at her face as best as he could.

The tom shied back, lashing out in turn. Claws caught the side of her jaw, and Swiftspirit pulled back with a sharp hiss as blood flowed from the wound. Foxdung! Her eyes narrowed as she focused on the tom, swiping at him again.

Timbersun was too busy getting ready for his next attack, he didn't see the other cat, an apprentice, running up to them. He felt claws run across his nose and scented blood, but only a few seconds later he scented sickness. "You're not well. You shouldn't be fighting here." He huffed, trying to be polite, but that was hard to do in battle. Looking around them, it was clear Windclan wasn't winning, before he saw a tail on the ground, and it was clear why the apprentice had vomited all over the place.

The tabby tom ignored it, however and turned his attention to his current opponent, not bothering to fight the smaller cat. He was feeling weaker already, and he knew he shouldn't waste time on fighting a smaller enemy. He lifted a paw, outstretching his claws and slashed the Shadowclan tom right across the face.

He started stepping back, trying to prepare for two attacks at the same time. His tail was as thick and fluffy as a fox's by now, swaying side-by-side carefully.

Fire continued to race through Daystar's veins as she quickly used her front teeth to snap at Murkystar before turning to face Mistyfalcon. She needed to get rid of the cat that looked the weakest between the two of them first, even if that meant risking another attack from Murkystar in the process.

Teeth pierced through her fur and skin, and Murkystar growled as it was released, feeling the blood oozing into her fur. Suddenly though, Daystar turned her attention to Mistyfalcon, and Murkystar's heart dropped into her paws. No. Anger flared in her eyes as she reared up onto her hind paws before coming down as hard as she could on Daystar's head. Maybe that would slow her down, and give her mate a chance to dodge.

Daystar's focus shifted to him, but that was fine. Mistyfalcon was exhausted, truthfully, and the various wounds he'd sustained weren't helping matters. Unfortunately for Daystar, Mistyfalcon was someone who cared very little about things like fatigue. She was wrong if she thought he'd stop attacking just because she'd turned her attention towards him. He'd caught the flash of anger in Murkystar's gaze, maybe the leader would realize her mistake... Probably not, she was windclan after all. As Murkystar brought her paws down onto Daystar's head, Mistyfalcon's claws slashed at her face. He wasn't looking to maim the Windclanner, but blood dripping into her eyes would hinder her ability to fight. He knew he wouldn't be fighting for much longer today, but he'd ensure the Windclanner had even less of a chance than she already did.

Ratpaw recoiled, as the large warrior’s eyes landed on him, eyes green and piercing. Thankfully, his clanmates’ tail was fine — but the relief was chased away at the implications. His heart leapt to his throat, but he had no choice: Ratpaw thought of the first time Webshadow bared his fangs, staring down at the young black apprentice entrusted to him like he was prey. If you were cornered like this, by a cat who wants your throat, what would you do? his mentor had asked, voice low.

Certainly, Ratpaw couldn’t run; he hadn’t then and certainly couldn’t now. His muscles tensed, bracing himself — but then the Windclan tom turned his head, as if he didn’t have time for this. Telling him to leave. You shouldn’t be fighting here.

Ratpaw’s ear flicked in surprise; he was not expecting—

But then, Ratpaw knew he didn’t really stand a chance against a warrior for long, and this Windclan tom knew it too. It felt like a kindness: Ratpaw had been expecting a blow and instead he was dismissed. Although — as Burningwing turned, and the enemy warrior immediately attacked and then kept eyes locked on his original fight — perhaps it was out of necessity, not kindness.

Burningwing was not one to give second chances. Ratpaw didn’t think he would.

Now that the warrior’s tail seemed intact — Ratpaw’s panic was for nothing — rushing in seemed more daunting. But the Windclan tom was unsteady, and would clearly keep fighting — even when Burningwing was in better fighting shape.

I’m sorry, he mewed internally. Ratpaw couldn’t... leave. That was what this was all for. (And he winced, stomach rolling, and couldn’t think of — the small apprentice, and her yowls.) He’d already come this far. And he wasn’t proud of it, but it was what it was. Mustering his strength — and ignoring the shaking and stinging of his legs — Ratpaw leapt. He was aiming for the warrior’s back, but met his bulky shoulder instead in a clumsy snap of teeth.

Burningwing nodded once in approval at Ratpaw for choosing to keep fighting. It was about all the praise the apprentice would get. The dark tom wasted no time following up with a lash of his claws. Once he got rid of this tom he was going to beat the fur off of Swiftspirit.
