Dawn or Dusk (closed, border skirmish/claim)

The pin helped Ashstorm a little bit.  The tom who she was fighting was a skilled warrior, barely stopping a moment when he would give his next attack.  She was a bit tired at this point.  She had been sleeping less and had so much more to do that she was not exactly prepared for now that she was deputy.  She looked around once more at all the cats getting hurt, realizing that she was one of the luckier ones where injuries were concerned.  At this point, she wished that the fight never started.  She wished she could stop it, but she highly doubted that Bloodstar would retreat.  So, instead she just kept the Shadowclan cat pinned, trying to figure out how to win the fight without causing much bloodshed.

Ashstorm continued Leap-and-Hold, dealing 10 in damage and using 15SP.

"I fight like one because no matter who I am now it doesn't change the simple fact that I was trained by them, bird-brain" she hissed.  She was still in a fighting stance.  He suggested that she would retreat... and then she laughed.  "A moment ago you were about to kill me.  Why would you think that I'd trust you to not fight me if I retreated?  Do you really think I'm that stupid?"

She lunged down and jumped towards Bloodstar.  She grabbed his scruff in her teeth and viciously yanked down, hitting his head to the ground.  She was more angered by this cat then she had been in a long time by anyone.  Once Shira was triggered by something, it would take a lot for her to be calm again.  She held on to his scruff as tightly as she could, trying to pierce straight through his flesh.  At last she let go, after shaking his scruff and trying to hit his head to the ground.

Burningwing hadn't been expecting her to fight back. He practically beat her within an inch of her life and was content to let her go if she wanted... but then she sprung at him and continued. Burningwing just wasn't prepared for it... at all. He was pummeled with unexpected blows and a final nasty one right on top of his head. The dark tom hit the ground with an audible thud and went still aside from his labored breathing. Red clouded his vision and no amount of blinking was wiping the blood away.

He could hear her talking to Cicadapaw... it was like she knew him. Burningwing's blood slicked eyes still sought the direction he last saw his apprentice. Darkness was closing in around his vision... and it wasn't the kind that Shadowclan eyes could pierce through. Rat-dung... she must have gotten me good. That's what I get for showing mercy I guess. It won't happen again.

He willed himself to stay conscious for just a moment longer, though his energy for that was fading fast as well.

"Cic-ada..." He forced himself to speak, but it was only just audible. "Ruth-less... a-and terrify-..." He had to stop. His head pounded. He hoped Cicadapaw would remember what he told him about Shadowclan from their first day of training together. Shadowclan was once ruthless and terrifying. Uphold that tradition.

He had only a small amount of strength left to keep himself awake... he wanted to see what Cicadapaw would choose. Loyalty to his clan, or was his friendship with this Skyclanner an obstacle?

Burningwing is K.O.'d and unable to fight.

Bloodstar had made the same mistake that Burningwing had. He'd shown mercy and was willing to allow his enemy to retreat... except she didn't. She chose to fight more. The scruff itself wasn't something he was concerned with. What was concerning was that when she put her weight on him to shake it, he tried to correct his stance and keep his balance. He over-corrected... and a sudden, unexpected tension in his right foreleg sent pain through his body and sent him to the ground. With a nasty bonk on the head to go with... whatever his body had just done... Bloodstar would need a moment to recover from this.

You better claw me good she-cat... because I am going to demolish you when I get back up.

Cicadapaw was able to breath when Burningwing loosened his grip on the she-cat, as though his own neck had been between his teeth. It would be ok now, she would turn and run and-

Legs continued to lash out, clawing out at each other. He just risked his pelt for her and she continued the fight? "I said stop!" He screamed, anger tingeing his concern as it now shifted towards Burningwing. Why wouldn't they listen to him? He didn't want either of them to get any more hurt but they just kept on fighting.

The she-cat was talking to him, but he wasn't listening to her anymore and he stood between her and his crumpled mentor. She didn't look like a threat, she was wobbling on her paws, sobbing. Then she fell, and Cicadapaw let her. She was kind to him when he was not, their scrap was fun, but he was loyal to his clan. He had to protect them first.

"Cic-ada..."

His ears flicked, turning to the other tom. Ruthless and terrifying. He could be ruthless and terrifying, to make up for the mistake he forced his mentor to commit. In one swift movement, he twisted back to Dawnfeather, a paw raised then stuck down against her head with the momentum of his action. The word 'sorry' was on the back of his tongue, but he swallowed it down along with the bitter bile that threatened to rise from his throat. He had to knock her out. He had to prove himself. He was ruthless and terrifying.

A shriek cut through the chaos, and Emberleap went limp. (Just as well; struggling to get free hadn’t done him any good thus far.) Another piercing yowl directed him toward the source: Burningwing, on his feet, teeth buried in his opponent’s neck. Emberleap stared in quiet horror as the golden she-cat thrashed. Some things were universal, and whether warrior or rogue, a cat only had one reason to go for the throat in battle. Burningwing was trying to kill her.

Emberleap hadn’t thought Clan cats did that. Not to each other.

Cicadapaw hurried over to intervene or help his mentor, honestly, Emberleap didn’t know him well enough to expect one over the other—then the claws rooted in his skin tightened and yanked his attention back to where it should be. By the time one of his wild kicks hit home, giving him just enough of an opening to twist out of the deputy’s grasp, the battlefield had changed again. Burningwing was down. The golden she-cat, too. Whirling about on his paws, Emberleap arched his back and snarled at the SkyClan deputy—or tried to, though he couldn’t hear the sound over his own thundering heartbeat. Disengage. They needed to disengage.

Emberleap is no longer pinned.

Sound had drawn Ashstorm's attention over towards a different battle.  Out of the corner of her eye, she witnessed the battle between Burningwing and Dawnfeather.  Brief shock ran through her when she saw the Shadowclan cat fighting her niece grab her neck.  Soon, he let go.  Ashstorm knew that if it happened a moment longer, she would be by Dawnfeather's side beating the crap out of Burningwing.  Her attention snapped back to Emberleap after he got on his paws.  Was this what these Shadowclanners were like?  Her anger rose and her stare intensified.   Ashstorm rush up and clawed at Emberleap, she was not going deep enough to cause serious damage, just enough to cause her to win this battle.

Once he was down, she turned her head towards where Dawnfeather was fighting a moment ago.  Burningwing was on the ground, good.  "Dawnfeather!" She gasped after seeing her niece on the ground with serious injuries, weeping.

Shira was not focused on anything but her battle with Bloodstar.  She scratched against his fur with her one working paw.  She then bat her paw against his side.  She both waiting for him to fight again, but also wanted him to stay down so she had longer to attack.  She was determined to win this fight, even though she knew that was near impossible.

Bloodstar braced himself against Shira's attacks and took his whooping like a tom. Even after her barrage of blows, he looked up at her and chuckled. Even as his wounds wept with red, Bloodstar began to get his paws under him. "If that's the best you can do, you're in real trouble sweetheart." The stiffness in his leg was going away. Only a moment longer and he'd be ready to throw down again. The screeching of Dawnfeather drew his gaze only for a moment to realize what was going on.

That dark tom was going to get his tail shoved in his neck.

Dawnfeather… couldn’t… hold… on… her head pounded… no, swirled… her eyes couldn’t focus… then, mercifully, something hit the back of her neck and she slipped seamlessly into unconsciousness.

The golden warrior laid sprawled on the ground, the flow of blood from her neck thankfully beginning to slow, but not before it had stained the ground around her a scarlet red. Her chest rose and fell gently, as though she was merely asleep and not lying unconscious on the battlefield, having barely escaped a fatal blow.

Dawnfeather is k.o.’d

Burningwing watched his apprentice drop the Skyclan cat. His vision was still smeared with red, but Cicadapaw had done his job. The dark tom gave him a small smile of approval before his eyes closed, allowing the darkness to take him. Whatever happened to him now, he had successfully left a prodigy in Shadowclan. He could only hope that his work would be continued, should he die before he could complete his goals.

Okay no more posts from Burningwing until the fight actually concludes. He's officially out cold.

Emberleap knew he needed to dodge. He thought through it as the deputy closed in, her eyes positively burning now that she’d gotten to see what Burningwing had done—but his paws lagged seasons behind. Claws carved into his muzzle, cheek, the side of his neck. Nothing fatal, nothing lasting; she made her point all the same. The battle was over. He backed away step by stumbling step, blood trickling from scratches and pinprick wounds alike, gaze fixed on the deputy in case she decided to press home her advantage. When she didn’t, he turned to begin the slog toward ShadowClan’s camp. Flintstar and Murkystrike could decide whether or not it counted as cowardice; he only knew that if he didn’t leave now, while he was still conscious, he couldn’t guarantee he’d make it back at all.

Emberleap can no longer fight.

His legs remained frozen in place even when a gray molly came rushing up to Dawnfeather. Cicadapaw swallowed thickly, looking behind himself to see Burningwing had fallen into unconsciousness as well. Their fight was over, but there was one still going on and a new possible one he could get himself into... Or maybe he could try and play it smart?

"I'm not sure how much damage Bur-..." No, don't use names. "-he did, but she needs a medicine cat. I'm not going to attack you, just please get her help." Dawnfeather didn't deserve anything that happened to her today, and certainly didn't deserve to die either. He would hope she would drag her off to safety, removing one enemy of the field and getting his... friend(?) help at the same time. Perhaps her fear for Dawnfeather's safety would make her take advice from a foe. Then all they would have to worry about was Bloodstar, if he didn't flee with his deputy. Unlikely, but he could hope.

But this was still their territory, he wasn't going to have their blood spilled for nothing. He would fight for it until his legs gave out. He had to. So his muscles remained tense, ready for his words to backfire and turn hostile attention back on him.

Bloodstar got to his feet completely and fixed Shira in an unamused glare. He threw his body weight suddenly into her, going for a pin, but she must have hit her head on a root or something. She stopped moving after that. With a shrug, Bloodstsr turned to survey the battle. It was... over with the exception of one apprentice, who seemed to be distracted talking to Ashstorm.

The leader crouched and stalked quietly behind the young calico. He reared back a single, sheathed paw and brought it around, aiming to give the apprentice a hard smack on the back of the head. This battle was finished. Skyclan had won this, as far as he was concerned. There was no need to claw an apprentice into oblivion.

Shira has timed out.

Shira lifted her lip and hissed at the tom for calling her "sweetheart".  She was going to kill him for this, all of this.  He'd have eight more lives to spare she was pretty sure, so he would still be alive and Skyclan would not be as mad at her.  But if she had the chance... she would take away every single one of the lives he had left until he had nothing.

Then he overpowered her, and throw himself on to her in what looked like he was trying to pin her.  On the way down, she hit her head.  The skin on her head sliced open a bit and it was bleeding.  But all she felt was a brief jolt of pain and then...

Darkness.  Complete Darkness.

I timed out and Shira is auto K.O.-ed.

Ashstorm ran up to Dawnfeather.  She hit Burningwing with her tail and unshealthed her claws, slicing across his fur.  At this point, she did not know if Dawnfeather was alive or not and she would not until she reached her niece.  All she saw was Dawnfeather laying limp on the ground with wet fur under her eyes from crying and puncture wounds on her neck.  "How could you?  Both of you!"  She yelled with tear-filled eyes at both the unconscious cat and the apprentice who made Dawnfeather unconscious.

Ashstorm was about to fight Cicadapaw in her anger, but Bloodstar got to him first.  Instead, she went over to Dawnfeather and checked her heartbeat and felt her side for signs of breath.  To her relief, both were there.  She was pretty sure that Dawnfeather could not hear her, but she still whispered "don't worry, you're going to be okay."

The grey she-cat got Dawnfeather on her back.  Her niece was a little bit taller than a normal cat, but Ashstorm was surely bigger than her, so she knew that she could carry Dawnfeather back to camp and to the medicine den without a problem.  She stood up, with a little struggle, but was fine when she got her grounding.  She looked back at Bloodstar, who just got done fighting the apprentice.  She wanted to be sure that he was done here, that no one else will get hurt.  "Come on, Bloodstar.  Let's get our cats and head back.  We won."  She did not know what he was going to do next, but she did remember him telling her that he enjoyed fighting and war, and at this point she would not be able to handle another cat being injured.

Vitriol met his very reasonable advice. Cicadapaw snarled, his eyes widening in shock and rage as the cat attacked his mentor. "He's already down! Stop! What's wrong with you?" No skyclan cat had any brains it seemed, all of them emotional wrecks that acted on impulse instead of common sense. Why did he even try to save Dawnfeather? All of it seemed to land back on his mentor, not even him!

Burning was right. Apparently being merciful wasn't helping a all, he didn't know why he still tried after his first attempt went so wrong.

"How could I? I tried to help! I had to-" A harsh thump to the back of the head cut him off mid-sentence, crumpling to the floor. The world spun, his head throbbing. Cicadapaw attempted to pull himself back to his paws, but his injured shoulder buckled from his weight and exhaustion. He messed up. He could have done more if he had done better. If he hadn't worried so much about some cat in another clan.

His vision blurred into nothing as unconsciousness engulfed him. He'll fight properly next time. He knew better now.
