Dawn or Dusk (closed, border skirmish/claim)

Dawnfeather trotted dutifully behind Ashaunt and Bloodstrike, suppressing a yawn. It was dusk… she was rather sleepy. Not sleepy enough to miss the lizard that skittered right across her path, as though it thought it was invincible. Dawnfeather speared it with a claw. Thank the stars it was a slow one, or she would’ve missed- ah. Something had been hunting it- probably one of her patrolmates, judging by the clawmarks that just scraped its side. She picked it up in her maw, glad at the chance to hunt a bit, even if this was a border patrol. Hopefully Cricketpaw was enjoying it as much as she was- oops, she’d gotten behind.

The young warrior quickly caught up with her Clanmates, the lizard dangling from her maw. Odd, they didn’t seem to have been hunting- but there were other predators about, all too eager to snatch a lizard. ”Fhis ifs fun!” She mumbled around the lizard, letting out a laugh at herself.

The last golden rays of sunlight bathed Highpine in a shimmering light as they neared it. It was beautiful… despite the growing chill Dawnfeather stopped to admire it for a moment, forgetting about the nearby marshes and border.

Burningwing had chased a lizard through Shadowclan territory, surprised at it's liveliness in the cold weather. Super lizard... a prize to be caught! It had given him the slip a few times and his nose went to work immediately trying to locate the silly creature. Once he spotted it... a flash of gold and white snatched it up. His ears pinned back and his fur bristled. For just a moment he thought it was Dawnhawk, but this was a she-cat. No matter... she had just stolen Shadowclan prey.

"Nice catch, frog-brain!" He hissed, right before he leaped from the shadows and buried his claws into her flesh.

Emberleap had spent most of the patrol hanging so far back the others had nearly dropped out of sight. When the strains of a scuffle reached his ears, though, he rushed forward. A predator, he thought, or maybe a rogue… Another patrol was the one thing he hadn’t expected. Still half-hidden by mud and shadow, he hesitated. SkyClan. They’d always been nice to him at Gatherings, and they didn’t seem to be trespassing yet—

But whether he liked it or not, his decision had been set the moment Burningwing’s claws made contact. Fighting wouldn’t change the opinions of anyone present; not fighting certainly would. Biting down hard on the inside of his cheek, he scanned the cats across the border. SkyClan’s leader would shred him, and he didn’t feel right attacking a cat who couldn’t have been an apprentice for more than a moon…which left him with the deputy. He couldn’t afford to hesitate. He’d already lost the element of surprise as it was. With a wordless howl as much intended to stun as the blow itself, Emberleap charged the deputy, claws bared.

Ashstorm walked along with the patrol.  She walked near Bloodstar towards Highpine.  Noticing a lizard scurrying across the land.  Her eyes followed it to Dawnfeather who quickly caught the creature.  She was ahead of Dawnfeather, until her niece ran up with the lizard in mouth.  Then, quickly and surprisingly, she heard a Shadowclan cat yell and attack Dawnfeather.

"Stop it," she said, going to fight the Shadowclan cat fighting her.  But before she reached that cat, another Shadowclan cat went after her.  Ashstorm was pinned down in an instant.  She moved and thrashed around under the other cat, attempting to get up. It was a failed attempt. She could not get up nor fight. Although, she did scratch the other cat, lighter than she would have like to however.

Ashstorm used Duck and Twist, the attack fail, dealing 3 in damage and using 5SP.

Shira went on a patrol with the others, thankful that the fox-hearted rogues who had been there for moons were finally no more. Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted Skyclanners. Some of them might have known her from the Asylum. Oh, this is going to be fun. She thought. Especially after Burningwing gave out there location, there was no stopping the battle now, so Shira just looked forward to it.

(OOC: Shira isn't fighting in this post because I don't want to double-team. I'll post again with her later after more Skyclanners show up)

Cicadapaw's ears pricked, the relatively quiet hunting patrol suddenly growing loud with yells and the sounds of a fight. The frog he was hunting was quickly forgotten, turning on his paws to follow the noise. His first real fight. Not against owls or snakes, but cats. Dawnfeather's little spar with him didn't count in his head, mostly just so he didn't have to count his loss to the scoreboard in his head. The sounds got louder and louder as he approached, only adding to the pricking anticipating beneath his fur. It felt like static, electricity ready to be released through his claws.

He joined the rest of the patrol with his fur already bristling, taking note of his enemies. Skyclan. Perfect. He scanned the area for Dawnfeather, hoping for the rematch that he was promised, only to be disappointed that she was already occupied by his mentor. No problem, they could always fight another time. It would be more fun to fight against a new opponent anyway.

OOC: Not attacking as to not double-team. Cicadapaw is free real estate!

Bloodstar may have been more distracted than usual... so when the Shadowclan cats attacked, it took him just a moment to snap back into reality. He spotted the Shadowclan warriors and counted them... The sides were equal... so he tried to pick out the most experienced warrior there and handle it. His eyes landed on Shira and he charged toward her. He kicked off of the ground with a Skyclanner's leap and landed viciously onto his target. Maybe they were coming to claim Highpine as well. Well... that wasn't about to happen. Skyclan would need as much territory as possible for the upcoming leaf-bare.

Cricketpaw had been trotting along with the rest of his patrol, scanning the scenary for anything exciting. Something fluttered up in the treetops, catching his eyes. A robin maybe. He wasn't sure. The tom was distracted by this for but a moment, and that seemed enough time for something to break out. Screeching cats, yowls. It was a sound he was too young to be familiar with - the sound of battle.

He turned on his pads, racing towards the rest of the patrol. Seeing what was before him, the apprentice's eyes grew wide. A patch-pelted tom surveyed the battlefield but in a different manner than himself - not on shock. Cricketpaw swallowed, knowing he had to do something. He raced forward, leaping at his opponent with outstretched claws.

He had to battle experience, little training, not much to go off of for an apprentice as green as he was. Feeling his claws rake the coat of another was strange, foreign, and it like his paws vibrating anxiously. Cricketpaw wanted to strike again, trade blows until the other tom raced away... but instead he looked at the other apprentice as he stepped back defensively, "Just run away it'll get this over quicker, alright?"

One moment, she was trotting happily along, and the next she was tumbling backwards, a ShadowClanner’s claws buried in her flesh. Pain shot through her body, adrenaline flooded into her mind. Even as she fell backwards, she twisted around, landing on her paws. With lightning speed, she leapt for a low, nearby branch, sinking her front claws into it, whipping around, and hurtling back onto the ShadowClanner with all the force of her powerful hind legs.

She had him pinned in a matter of seconds, the lizard still dangling by its tail from her maw. Oops. She tossed it to the side, trying to remember what he’d said whilst keeping him firmly pinned. “Oh, thank you! I don’t usually catch lizards.” This one seemed to be nice, too! Like Cicadapaw! She didn’t know what exactly he’d said after that-something about frogs, but she’d called Cicadapaw a frog and he seemed to like that, so it must be a compliment!

Adrenaline still flooded her body, keeping the pain from her side ignorable. Luckily she’d managed to pull away before he’d had time to truly dig in with those sharp claws… she glanced around swiftly, making sure to keep the ShadowClanner’s face in the dirt- everyone seemed to be doing well- Dawnfeather turned her attention back to the tom. “What’s your name?”

Though Emberleap somehow managed to knock the bulkier cat off her paws, she hit the ground flailing, forcing him to scramble away before he could make use of the opening. One swing caught the lower part of his foreleg. He staggered with a hiss. The pain wasn’t anywhere near enough to pierce the fog of adrenaline, but in the moment, those tiny scratches looked like a bad omen. He’d always been better at fighting mindless predators than other cats. The deputy hadn’t regained her balance yet; there wasn’t much he could safely attack. He lashed out anyway, ears pulled flat, feeling a rush of something like relief when his claws struck fur and flesh, then darted back once more. All he could do was keep moving.

Shira was not looking at the massive Skyclan cat that hit into her a moment later.  Bloodstar...  She realized, remembering him from gatherings.  She ached where he hit her, but she wasn't about to show it.  She hissed at the tom, narrowing her eyes.  She then rushed back, leaping over and pushing him to the ground, before moving away again.  She watched his movements carefully, trying to discover what he was going to do next.

After feeling another bit of pain, Ashstorm rose to her paws as quickly as she could.  She was pretty hurt from this one cat, whom she never was able to fully attack till now.  She rushed towards the other cat.  Once she got close enough, she bit into the Shadowclan cat's shoulder and then quickly jumped away again.

Bloodstar felt the hard blow of Shira's paw in an area that would have taken most cats aback. Bloodstar however, had been a prisoner of war for an entire winter at one point in the Asylum's prison. He'd been tortured, beaten and starved for moons. He was used to this kind of pain and punishment. Worst of all for Shira was that he recognized the maneuver... He fixed her in his acidic green gaze for a moment after the blow was struck. One heartbeat. Two heartbeats. A smile of near psychotic rage split Bloodstar's face and he barked out a short, manic chuckle.

"An Asylum cat..." Drool sputtered from the tear in his lip and seeped down his chin as he spat the words like rotting meat. He was going to enjoy hurting this one. Bloodstar rushed forward and sank his teeth mercilessly into Shira's foreleg, one top fang aimed just above her elbow joint into the meat of her shoulder and the other top fang just below the elbow joint into the forelimb's muscle itself. His bottom fangs found their mark into her foreleg as well, plunging themsleves deep. Bloodstar wrenched his head to the side in an attempt to destroy whatever muscle and ligaments that he possibly could and throw his opponent off balance.

Oh how he was going to love putting her through a fraction of the pain that the Asylum had put him through; How he was going to thoroughly enjoy shredding her piece by piece and making her just as abhorrent to look at as he was.

He tried to duck away as the deputy recovered, but it wasn’t enough to escape her completely; that last risky swipe had left him wide open. Her teeth sank into his shoulder. Emberleap’s mind went blank. She released him quickly, leaving the punctures free to bleed, and he realized she’d latched on around the scar, rather than through it—a graze at most. It shouldn’t have mattered. Maybe it didn’t. In any case, now wasn’t the time to process that. He had a fight to...well, to fight, no matter how it might end. Emberleap sank low and launched himself after the retreating SkyClanner, struggling to drag her to the ground with him. He battered her with his claws as they tumbled, then attempted to twist his way free.

The field was chaotic, he didn't know which cat to focus on. In hunting, if you were skilled, your prey was still and unaware. It was easy to sneak upon. Here, everyone was moving, loud, the scent of blood permeating through the air as claws tore skin. It was overwhelming, too much for his brain to lock on to.

It wasn't until a smaller cat had lept at him, nearly bowling him over before his claws dug into the dirt to stabilize himself. Ow! He snarled in pain, his gaze snapping onto the other apprentice. "Like I would surrender to a scrawny brat like you!" he hissed, his splotchy tail lashing behind him. That sounded intimidating in his head. Hopefully the younger tom thought so too.

He rushed forward, unleashing a flurry of blows to the apprentice's ears and nose, wildly lashing out to deal as much damage as possible. He had been caught off guard, he needed to get the upper hand once more.
