Ashstorm took a moment to look around the rest of the camp.  Skyclan seemed to be doing a better job than Shadowclan.  This was probably just because that most of the Shadowclan cats seemed to be younger, plus she was fairly certain that none of them were deputies or leaders.  This was an unfair fight because of the lopsidedness of strength leaning towards the Skyclan side.  This she felt bad about.  She did not have much time to think though, the warrior she was fighting wasted no time in fighting her.  When she found her grounding after the attack, she knocked Emberleap over and pushed him to the ground with her paws many times.  Then, she pinned him down.

"A Shadowclan cat!" Shira spat back at Bloodstar.  Pain, horrible unending pain, went through her when he grabbed her leg in his teeth.  He reopened her scar.  She knew that trying to get out of that would just harm her more, so all she could do was stay there.  The bite finally ended, but yet with how much pain there was the teeth could have still been in.  Blood gushed out of the wound.  Putting weight on that leg was surprisingly difficult.  If she tried to put more than just a slight bit of weight on it, she knew she would tumble to the ground.

"What- What did you do?"  She yelled in anger.  She had been in fights, a lot of fights, she had handled the Asylum prison and tried to kill Eris, yet this pain was some of the worst she felt.  She unsheathed her claws and viciously scratched at the tom with the leg that was not hurt.  She lost all respect for this leader at that very moment.  Yet... she remembered him.  Much of the time she never went to Fourtrees while the Asylum had it, yet because she got thrown in there jail also, she knew that this tom was there.

She kept swiping at him, keeping all her balance on her back legs.  "Listen here, bird-brain.  I'm not an Asylum cat.  My mother is Ivystar, if you doubt that go ask her next gathering.  I was taken by the Asylum at a few moons old, lied to and trained by them.  When I fought back I ended up in the cages also, while I was pregnant mind you.  But don't you ever ever call me an 'Asylum cat' again."  She hopped back, waiting for his next attack.  Because of adrenalin, the wound on her leg did not hurt as much as she knew it would later, making her afraid that the next attack could be the same.

The deputy found her balance quickly—too quickly. Emberleap managed to flip onto his back before she finally pinned him down, not that it did him any good. He kicked at her belly in an attempt to free himself, to no avail. They were close in height, but apparently, her bulk came more from weight and muscle than fur. Knowing full well he’d have better luck asking a rabid badger for help than his patrolmates, he looked aside anyway, eyes round, and for the first time saw the state of the battlefield—the apprentices trading blows, a golden she-cat shoving Burningwing’s face into the dirt, blood pouring down Shira’s leg like water. His heart sank.

Bloodstar jerked his head away from Shira's body as her leg slid through his teeth. Once her leg had been freed she slashed out at him with the other. He hardly even registered the impact aside from the shockwave on his shoulder muscle. He was far too accustomed to pain to react much to it anymore, even as the fresh claw marks began to run red. He sunk back into a fighting stance and assessed the damage he'd done to her leg. That was certainly going to leave a mark as he'd intended it to. She began talking, going on about how her mother was Ivystar and how she was one of the missing kits. In any other situation, Bloodstar would have bowled her over by now, but he listened. Maybe receiving those nine lives had changed him. It wasn't like him to pause in battle for a conversation.

"If being called an Asylum cat offends you so much... why do you still fight like one?" It was all he felt inclined to say. No longer going for life-crippling attacks (seriously... what did those starclan cats do to him???) he instead decided to fight her as another warrior. The damage unfortunately had already been done. All he could do was not make it worse.

"You should retreat. I won't pursue if you do." He struck out quickly with another swipe of his claws aimed for her face. It might scar, maybe, but he was no longer trying to cause true permanent damage. His hopes were not high for her leg, however. He'd given that all he had in his momentarily crazed state of mind.

Burningwing didn't know what to make of this she-cat. He responded by snarling and wiggling under her. "It's Burningwing! Not that it will matter once I knock you out, you won't remember me anyway!" She had him good though... so all he could do for the moment was hiss and spit and wiggle in fury.

Dawnfeather frowned in concentration as the ShadowClanner writhed beneath her, forced to sink her claws into his pelt to keep him pinned. Then he hissed at her… and in surprise and fear, she yelped and leapt off of him, fur bristling. “What do you mean?!?” She growled, tail lashing. Why wouldn’t she remember him? She didn’t want to forget anything, not even a fight. This was an odd tom… and for perhaps the first time in her life, she felt pressure pushing down on her shoulders, fear and adrenaline pushing her to not only win, but win decisively. To teach him a lesson… so he wouldn’t harm her, or her Clanmates.

Her blue eyes narrowed and she shot forwards before the tom could fully recover from her previous attack. Her heart fluttered and she squeezed her eyes shut, feeling rather than seeing her claws sink deeply into fur and flesh. It gave way beneath her sharp claws… she didn’t want to think about what she was doing…

She pulled away, gasping for breath like she’d almost drowned, her eyes shooting open. She hadn’t hit his eyes… good… she didn’t want to terribly hurt him… but blood was streaming down his face terribly- awfully- fast- her head pounded… despite the dangerous situation, she collapsed onto her haunches, her head awfully heavy and spinning faster than… faster than…

The young warrior, dazed, stared at Burningwing, the world in slow-motion. She- she didn’t know what she’d done to him- it wasn’t that bad- face wounds bled a lot- but she couldn’t- she didn’t like to fight- he’d scared her, though- but- ”…as the daughter of the deputy I demand you stop…” she’d seen wounds worse than his before… her head pounded…

Only a few moments had passed, but Dawnfeather was seemingly out of it, staring at the ShadowClan tom despite the battle yowls and motion all around her.

Burningwing managed to shut his eyes tightly as claws went for his face. He had been on the ground though, so squirming away wasn't possible. A horrible squelching of flesh giving way beneath claws echoed inside his head. She'd gotten him deep... Then she was off of him, for reasons he couldn't fathom. He sprung to his feet, blinking blood away from his eyes as the wounds poured. Why did she look so... shocked?

"Did you think I would just go down that easy? What's the matter with you?!" He yowled, before he kicked off of the ground and intended to return the wounds she gave him ten fold.

She was… her head pounded… then, suddenly, she was on her back pinned to the ground, pain shooting through her shoulders as he held her to the ground with sharp claws. Her blue eyes snapped back into focus, and the dazed look left her face. She couldn’t fight the past. But she could fight this crazy, dangerous tom-

Dawnfeather threw herself to the side, pummeling his stomach with her hind legs- but his grip was too strong, and the claws tore deeper into her flesh… she was at a bad angle for kicking him, too… she let out a yelp of pain… “What is wrong…” she murmured, eyes beginning to glaze over… only the pain shooting through her shoulders kept her from going limp and admitting her loss… that, and the scarlet blood dripping from his face…

Hopefully someone would see her predicament and come to her rescue…

She didn’t want to lose. Not to this tom.

Burningwing was... baffled. Apparently even she didn't know what was wrong with her? Well... he wasn't exactly about to host a therapy session right now. Unless that meant knocking some sense into her. She wiggled under him and kicked at his belly, which brought forth a growl from him. He shook his head to flick the blood away from his eyes before it blinded him. The cooler air rushing through the open wounds made them sting more, causing him to hiss in fury.

"No more talking Skyclanner! Just fight!"

He knew she'd probably escape soon... and that was when Shira's words suddenly hit his ears. He dared a quick glance over at her. While he had no love for half blood... the fact that Bloodstar had caused such a grievous injury to her put a bad taste in his mouth. Good thing it wasn't an actually valuable member of Shadowclan... but it could have been. That was enough to cause Burningwing to do the unthinkable.

His teeth shot for Dawnfeather's jugular. His bit down hard, making his intentions known. Skyclan thought they were the only cats in the forest to be feared? Think again!

His opponent lashed out with an unexpected fury. Cricketpaw hardly had time to blink or digest what had happened as unrelenting claws raked through his pelt, causing a white hot pain that he had never felt before. So this was what it meant to be a warrior, to fight for your clan and defend the borders. Staggering backwards, he looked at the other apprentice with wide eyes. Shadowclan was said to be vicious in stories but the inexperienced Cricketpaw had no concept of physical conflict with another cat. As his head swam and his chest thudded erratically, the Skyclan tom found himself with no choice but to leave the battlefield. It seemed Bloodstar was dealing enough damage himself - surely they could handle it. He hoped, but regardless, Cricketpaw felt useless.

Cricketpaw is KO'd because I am the worst. Cicadapaw is free to move onto a new opponent.

He glanced away… maybe he’d let her go… then…

Pure, unbridled fear penetrated every corner of her mind as his teeth sunk into her neck, some primal instinct warning her that this was danger.

He’s going to kill me. I’m going to die.

A shriek burst from Dawnfeather’s maw, a cry of absolute terror that rang out over the battling cats. Her eyes dilated with fear. She was going to die. She was going to die. He was going to sink his teeth just a bit deeper into her throat. She was going to die.

Instinct rather than training sent adrenaline through her, a sudden contrast from the dazed molly she’d been mere moments earlier. Her claws glinted in the last rays of the sun, no longer concerned with the Code or her own moral restrictions. Fear overrode her gentleness and kindness. She’d never been in such danger before…

A banshee wail coming from her maw, the usually gentle molly thrashed about, clawing and biting like a wild animal. She had no plan- the training she’d received deserted her- she could’ve thrown him off, perhaps, if she could think clearly- but the wild fear within her was only rising. She couldn’t think clearly.

She was only focused on one thing.

Keeping her lifeblood from being spilling on the ground.

Fur and skin ripped beneath his claws as his attacks struck, and the familiar feeling of adrenaline and exhilaration flowing through his veins. The thrill of a fight rivaled no other, but then his opponent stumbled out of range and fled. Did... did he just win? He just won a fight!

He panted, both from exhaustion, pain, and elation. Deep claw marks ran down his shoulder, adding to the scaring he already had. More marks on his pelt that proved his competence. He scanned the field for Burningwing, desperate for a nod of approval from his mentor. However, a shrill shriek shot agony through his head, disorienting him for a moment before he turned to address the source.

Burningwing had Dawnfeather by the throat. From his distance, he could just see the blood starting to stain both of their fur as it leaked from her neck. He froze, his blood running cold. Was he trying to kill her? She was flailing. She was screaming. Cicadapaw didn't know what to do.

His paws moved without his volition as he rushed to his mentor's side. He had to make it stop.  "Burningwing! I think she's done, you can stop!" Wide eyes flicked between the two cats, his claws digging into the dirt below as he didn't know where else to put them. He couldn't attack his mentor, he couldn't attack Dawnfeather. He should, she wasn't his clan and they were in a battle for territory they needed, but his paws wouldn't budge. Was this treason? No. He wasn't being treasonous. He wasn't, he couldn't be.

Burningwing held fast for what felt like several moments but was probably only seconds. His opponent slashed at him again. He would have buried his fangs deeper if it weren't for... Cicadapaw? His yellow eyes snapped in the direction of his apprentice, gleaming with rage and bloodlust. At the look on Cicadapaw's face however, his jaw loosened and he released Dawnfeather. The wounds weren't fatal. They might scar, but she would live. His apprentice must have beaten the Skyclanner... good for him!

"Get out of here Skyclanner! If I have to bite you again I won't let go next time!" He spat, right before he reared back and brought his claws down onto her head once, then followed it up with a flurry of enraged claw attacks. Cicapapaw hadn't been wrong to tell him to stop... but that didn't mean he had to stop attacking completely. Shadowclan would win this. Skyclan had crossed a line.

The world blurred around her… her heart pounded in her ears… suddenly, the pressure left her neck and she gasped, hoping he was done… then new pain shot through her head…

She couldn’t let him do this.

“What did I do?” she shrieked… then, ignoring the stabbing pain from her throat and head, surged forwards, scoring her claws over the wounds she’d already made on his face. “I caught a lizard on my own territory and you tried to kill me! I hate you, I hate you… I hate you,” she sobbed, scoring her claws over his face with every sentence, her head swirling.

She wouldn’t go as far as he did… but she had to stop him… she rose up on her hind legs and slammed him into the ground with a satisfying thud… no, not satisfying… she didn’t like to fight… what was she doing… he wasn’t going to hurt any more of her Clanmates today… she collapsed unsteadily onto her haunches… turned to Cicadapaw…

”I’m sorry… Cicadapaw… I’m not going to fight anymore…” Tears fogged up her vision… her throat constricted… everything hurt terribly… “I caught… a lizard on my own territory… and he tried to kill me… he couldn’t win. I couldn’t let him… hurt my Clanmates… I’m sorry…” What was she even sorry for… somewhere deep inside she felt terrible for this… her little skirmish with Cicadapaw had been fun, this… she hated this… “He said he would make me forget…” she sobbed… “I’m not going… to fight… anymore…” the world swayed around her… her legs gave out from under her and she slipped to the ground… blood still leaking from her neck…

She hated him.

Dawnfeather used Upright Lock and Desperate Blows which does 17 damage and I’m not typing out the stats b/c busy but Burning is defeated. Dawn still has 1 HP technically but she’s in no shape to fight.
