Falconkit's Apprentice Ceremony

Rapidfire sat in the shade of the tallrock - ickk it was soooo hot and humid and sticky out. The moorlands being wide open offered little protection from the sun bearing down on the lands.

Having gotten back from all the patrols she had she slumped into the shade trying to press a little against the cold rock to cool herself off somewhat.

Maybe shadowclan had a point being out at night time ... if things got much hotter maybe she should talk to Tigerstar and Hemlockfox to discuss if a temporary switch to shadowclan methods would be workable.


She pushed herself to her paws and went up the tallrock

"clanmates, please gather around for a meeting... please find a shady spot.

Rainkit darted out of the nursery.  She had been hiding in there most of the day from the heat.

As soon as she was out the wall of hot air hit her like a hammer and she squeeled a bit in disgust.

"ewwww its so gross out here" she complained her tail drooping already.  She looked at her paws wondering if they would melt right off her self.

She slowly went over to her friend Falcon - they had shared a rabbit earlier and he seemed about as misserable as herself.  She sat next to him but not too close not wanting to cook them both even further from being too close.

"eww mom why you do the ceremony while the sun is still up!?" she huffed also running low on patience for this and wanting it to be her turn soon as well.

Turning to her kit companion she huffed "no fair, everyone else had theirs ages ago" she whispered to him "how come we get left behind?" she tilted her head - he woudl know the answer surely , right?

Rapidfire blinked away the diziness best she could from the heat and glanced at them gathering around.

"I know it is hot out here so this will be fast, promise.  Today we recognize a kit coming of age and showing he is ready for apprentice. Falconkit, you are ready for training and from now on your mentor is Larchbreeze. You are now to be called Falconpaw!"

(OOC: So I think Larchthunder name changed to Larchbreeze - my records might need updating but I think this is correct - if not I am sure someone will let me know lols)

Larchbreeze was still settling into the warriors' sleeping area of WindClan camp. He'd been enjoying using all of his free time between patrols today to rearrange his nest, along with all of the falcon feathers lining it and the soft clumps of moss he'd chosen specially during his apprenticeship. Even with the dreadfully hot weather, he couldn't bother being unhappy, not when he'd finally received the name that he'd been waiting so long for. Everything would look up. Despite all the recent deaths, despite the retirement of his mentor, despite all the worries that tried to bring him down. It would all be okay. He would thrive, and succeed, and be the wonderful warrior he was always meant to be.

At Rapidfire's summons, he took a brief break from his nest-arranging to see what the call could possibly be about. He wasn't quite sure how to feel about the new deputy. She was a tad younger than him, and the daughter of the previous deputy Sootstorm, but she seemed very enthusiastic and energetic if nothing else. He had little opinion of her, for now. Perhaps he ought to get in her good graces if she was going to be in charge for the long haul, though. Idly the young warrior settled beneath the Tallrock. Golden eyes drifted to the side and caught sight of a pair of kits arguing with each other. Moments later, one of them--Falconkit, apparently--was called forward. Ah, it must have been his ceremony, then.

Wait. That was... one of Tigerstar's kits, wasn't it? He regarded them carefully. The kit of a leader... he'd probably get one of the best warriors as his mentor, then. Unfortunately for him Nectarflower could no longer teach apprentices, being den-bound as she was, or he'd probably be blessed with her teaching. Odds were that when he got his ceremony, he'd have some senior warrior, no doubt. However, the sudden calling of his new name--which he almost missed, since he was not yet quite used to answering to it--stopped his vague wonderings short. Larchbreeze stood up, his eyes widening slightly. Had he misheard? Or had Rapidfire just called him to be a mentor to this new apprentice? To the leader's son, no less? He wasn't scared. That wasn't the reason that his heart suddenly pounded so fast. It was... surprise, that was all, that such a new warrior had been named mentor over the kit of such an influential senior warrior. Maybe this was... recognition? For his skills, for his exemplary fighting and hunting already? But if that had been the case then why would his warrior ceremony have taken so long? Well, he had no time to sit and think about it, because a time like this called for proper actions to be taken.

The flame-orange calico tabby tom strode forward, silently thanking the stars he'd groomed himself well earlier this morning. First impressions were important. Though he was tall, so it was a far stretch, he leaned down to press his nose against that of his new apprentice. Falconpaw, the deputy had said. Tigerstar's son. His apprentice. Well, he would just have to be the strong and impressive mentor that the leader must have implicitly trusted him to be. No messing up something this important. "It's nice to meet you, Falconpaw," Larchbreeze said smoothly, stepping back with a smile. "We'll start training tomorrow."
