Though his daughter had returned home, her mentor had not been so lucky. Orchidspark hadn't returned with Juniperpaw and Quillsplash, leaving his child without a proper mentor to guide her. Scrambling to the top of the Jaggedrock, Sablestrike prepared himself before letting out his call.
"All cats old enough to silently stalk in the shadows, please gather in the shadow of the Jaggedrock for a Clan meeting!"
She remained in his memory simply as the most plaintive and poignant of a line of ghosts
Juniperpaw knew it was coming, though she had hoped it would be delayed for longer. Having a new mentor meant meeting a new cat and she... what if her new mentor was someone scary, like Badgermask or Hawkmist or... anyone. The warriors were all so strange and scary... the black apprentice trembled as she approached where her father was seated. No, she should trust Sablestrike to choose the right mentor for her. Maybe, he'd even choose to mentor her himself.

Sablestrike gave a warm, reassuring smile to the apprentice as she joined him at the front of the clan. Orchidspark would have been a good mentor for her. She was such an outgoing and friendly cat. He had hoped she could have rubbed off a little on Juniperpaw, but that hope was now lost. "Juniperpaw, please step forward."
"You have made your way back to us, but your mentor was not able to do the same. While we grieve the loss of our clanmate, it is imperative that we make sure those of us still here can flourish in the future. As such, I believe it is time that you receive a new mentor. From this day on until you earn your warrior name, Boartusk shall be your new mentor. May he guide you well."
Boartusk blinked at the sound of his name, caught completely off guard at the idea of getting an apprentice so soon. He felt like he had just gotten his name. Should he be teaching a cat how to be a warrior when he had just figured out how to be one himself? At least his teachings were still fresh in his mind. He could figure this out... probably.
He stepped forward to his new apprentice, gently lowering his head to press his nose to hers before taking a step back. She seemed to be a skittish thing from what he had seen, it was probably best not to stick around in her personal bubble for too long. "We'll start training tomorrow night. We'll see what we need to work on and go from there. Does that sound alright?"

With a quiet thrill, Juniperpaw stepped forward to receive her new mentor. Boartusk was a nice cat, scary-looking but gentle in his words and thoughtful in his actions. His care in not taking up her personnal space confirmed it for her. She had been right to trust her father after all. The black she nodded in confirmation to the tabby's words, eager for the first time to begin training.
