Welcome to SkyClan Patrols and Duties: Sky Patrol! Warriors chosen for Sky Patrol have proven to be adept at tree climbing, and serve as SkyClan's eyes from above. Where a patrol on the ground may not notice an active threat until they're close enough to be scented or heard, cats assigned to sky patrol have the advantage of sight. Concerning activity is to be reported to Wolfstar or Honeydew immediately or, if necessary and the warriors present are capable, dispatched.
RULES At the beginning of the topic, during your first post, roll one Effect Dice to investigate with your character. At the end of every participant's first turn, the cumulative rolls will be averaged out, and the final number will decide if SkyClan locates a threat or not: 1-2: Locates evidence of a predator 3-4: No threat is found 5-6: Rogue is spotted crossing the border
The gentle light of dawn dappled the forest floor and the warmer breeze heralded the coming of newleaf as Honeydew led her patrol out into the forest. Today's patrol would head around the border in the opposite direction of the dawn patrol, using their eyes to watch for anything a grounded cat may miss. Signaling with her tail, she deputy ascended to the branches with ease.
"Alright everyone," she addressed them in a curt manner, despite being surrounded by her brothers and... Yewshade. The tom's presense made her feel unusually warm, and she had to keep herself from casting glances over at him. "Today SkyClan's first sky patrol since returning to the forest. I want you all to stay on your toes and look out and listen for signs of a threat, whether it's a predator, rogue or another clan crossing the borders. Let's hope it's not the latter..." She hesitated, swallowing back her apprehension. "And if it is, depending on the size of the patrol, we will question them first, understood?" Her icy blue eyes lingered on Shatteredsky for a moment before moving on. "Words first, claws only if necessary."
Honeydew cast a shy, sidelong glance in Yewshade's direction as she began leaping from branch to branch, pausing now and again to part her jaws and drink in the scents of the forest.
Rolling for investigation... rolled a 2.

"You got is boss!" mewed Brackendawn, following his sister through the trees. His blue eyes cast over the other cats in their group. "Everyone does as my sister says or else." he was joking, but if anyone messed up this for Honeydew he could do something drastic. He doubted anyone on this patrol would try anything too, but he had to make it known there would be consequences. It was exhilarating to run through the trees, limbs outstretched. He'd missed climbing while he'd been gone, the trees on the mountains just weren't meant for SkyClan.

Shatteredsky was glad to be on patrol with his littermates, this time without their sire, though he did wonder why Honeydew had to invite Yewshade along. Couldn't she have brought Harespring with them instead, or just left the fourth member out completely? He shook out his pelt crossly, but ultimately decided to just be grateful for having a chance to be with his family, even if there was a hiderance in an extra face lingering around. If Yewshade had any thing in that head of his, he would know to keep his mouth shut and his head low.
Shatteredsky could feel his sister's gaze linger on him while she gave her warning. What, did she think he would defend SkyClan's border with any of the fierceness that Sunfire, or even Mintglade, would? He had no loyalty towards this Clan, so she wouldn't have to worry about him skinning a cat's pelt for accidentally crossing a few scent lines. As long as no one touched Honeydew or Brackendawn, he could care less.
Yewshade was grateful to be on a patrol with Honeydew - and he lit up with a smile every time she cast a glance his way. It was unfortunate Shatteredsky came along. He was not stupid - he caught the hideous, pathetic tom casting hateful glares. He was lucky to be considered a warrior of SkyClan after his constant outbursts and his failure to be a proper mentor. He returned the tom's glares, flicking his tail. He wasn't afraid. Gonna skip out on your apprentice's warrior ceremony again, buddy? He thought to himself, smirking. Brackendawn was fine.
He nodded at her instructions, though she was the deputy, he silently disagreed. If anyone dared to cross our borders, they deserved his claws. "Yes ma'am!" He mewed. He was respectful enough to behave, unlike some cats in this patrol, casting his own glance.
He scaled up the tree with ease. Being up here reminded him of amazing times with Cricketpaw and his first catch as an apprentice. His heart yearned. Times were simpler back then.
Releasing a soft sigh, he parted his jaws. He hoped this was simply overkill, and there was nothing to be found.
Honeydew drew in a sharp breath and her fur stood on end. She dug her claws deep into the branch she perched on and waved her tail to signal to her patrol, stop. Suddenly the scent she had picked up on before became much stronger. There's something nearby... She cast her icy gaze down from the branches, eyes narrowed to pick up even the slighest movement.
The stench that rose up from the forest floor was musky and earthy. Honeydew screwed up her nose. As the deputy perked her ears, she could detect faint scraping, dragging sounds that made the young she-cat's belly flip. A low growl clawed its way up her throat, but she swallowed it back, looking back towards her patrol, a warning in her eyes.
"B a d g e r," she whispered. Do we have enough cats to take down a badger? She wondered, digging her claws even further into the bark beneath her paws. Shatteredsky, Brackendawn and Yewshade are all strong warriors, she reasoned. The tip of her tail flicked from side to side, uncertain of what call to make. Do we attack now while we literally have the upper paw? she weighed, or do we head back to camp and organize a bigger patrol?
Honeydew was still for a moment longer, then shook her head. It's not worth risking the lives of my clanmates and doing something rash. Her blue eyes met each cat in turn - Shatteredsky, Brackendawn and Yewshade, and she shook her head. With a swish of her feathery tail, she signalled them to retreat, and lead the way back to camp.
Once they were further away, she felt like she was able to breathe for the first time all over again. The young she-cat let out a big breath of relief.
"Now we know the badger is there," she said finally. "We can organize a bigger patrol to go take it down. In the meantime, we have to caution the clan to stay away from that part of the forest, especially apprentices." A shiver ran down her spine as she imagined those giant claws easily smashing the body of a young cat against a tree trunk. "Wolfstar said that's what the sky patrols were intended for - to find the threats that the ground patrols couldn't - to be the eyes in the sky. And that's what we were today, we succeeded. I hope that each of you will join me for the badger hunt, soon," she mewed, a determined shine in her eyes as she addressed her brothers and Yewshade.
The scent of badger prickled Brackendawn's nose and he supressed a growl, tai smacking against the trunk of the tree in which he perched. Honeydew's gaze met his and mirrored blued eyes blinked in response. He'd always be for stopping the threat here and now, and knowing it was dealt with as opposed to Honeydew's method. The unpredictability of the unknown terrified him, more so than most after waiting and waiting to find out what had become of his siblings after being separated. Despite the tom's own conflictions with his sister's choice, there previous conversation rang heavy in his mind. She needed him now more than ever and so Brackendawn would aid in presenting a unified front, even if these were cats he assumed and hoped would go along with her decree. "I'll be there, whenever you need me." he mewed "I wouldn't miss out on helping you get a matching badger pelt."
