Nightstalker was paralyzed within Mottlestar's den.
The fresh scent of mountains and the distinctive scent of Thunderclan, accompanied by the voices of the very cats who he had come for refuge long after they were gone. It seemed time was up. His jaw clenched furiously as he hid himself behind the curtain of lichen in the dark where he had always done his best work. His claws gripped the ground as he knew full well that it would be best to reveal himself now, it would only be a matter of time before the ragtag group he had formed with strangers would out him. The fur along his spine prickled with nervousness and pre-emptive anger because he was sure they would waste no time in throwing him away.
Whatever. Whatever. Whatever. Whatever. Each time he repeated the word he tried desperately to force indifference before he emerged from the leader's den. His eyes squinting harshly at the light that assaulted his gaze most unusually. He stayed a night-dweller despite the fact he was no longer Shadowclan, but perhaps he could argue he was the last remnant of a proper Shadowclan cat. His eyes fell upon the Thunderclan cats, his jaw still clenched, and he took his time looking over faces that were largely unfamiliar and some more so than others. Mottlestar, Nightdancer, Acornstem... From most significant to least.
He didn't say anything. He'd let the reactions speak for themselves. A past he'd never told the loners that occupied the camp surely to come to light.

It was both a surprise and expected at this point to find some new stranger waiting for ThunderClan on their own territory. Her hackles were raised, but the russet elder held confidence that Mottlestar could handle it... And handle it she did, in the most Mottlestar way: welcoming them with open paws. Olive eyes narrowed, but she wouldn't say a word. Wouldn't make a sound. If Mottlestar or Acornstem had no qualms with them, then neither should she. Her eyes wandered over each and every one of these strangers, reluctant but willing to accept their presence just as her mother already had. Willing to be good for her mate Acornstem and let them handle it.
A shadow shifted within the leaders den. Like the black liquids that plagued the ThunderPath, out spilled a tom who would have looked better a reed-length or more underground. Suddenly, she was back at Fourtrees - the day the then ShadowClan leader and ThunderClan leader's affair was revealed to the entire forest. The rage she had felt then. The fight with her own sister. The news of Mottlestar's death upon the great rock from the stress of it all. The very night she had turned her back in anger instead of ripping into his throat then and there.
Everything was red. Bright red. Stars. Couldn't feel her own shoulders shoving through the crowd as she picked up speed. Couldn't hear the protests as blood thudded into her skull with a rage she hadn't felt in moons.
There was no one but Firefly and Nightstalker. Russet body bowling the tom over and raking her claws deep into his scarred pelt.
Firefly successfully used Belly Rake on Nightstalker, dealing 20 damage and using 25 SP.

No cat was able to shout at him before a small flash of orange descended on him, tossing him onto his back and sending him into a partial roll as claws wasting no time to tear at his soft underbelly. Suppressed anger flared within an instant and his claws unsheathed fully, he had no idea who this cat was and had no idea what he had done to warrant such a response. No idea what he did personally anyways- there were many things he had done in his lifetime to deserve the ire of the cats around him and that he was aware of so surely it was just some cat responding to a situation he had created.
Whatever. He just had to defend himself until one of the useless standing-around mucks pulled the crazy she-cat off of him. Nightstalker placed a paw on her chest, his other paw fastening around a foreleg, using it to keep and pull her into him as he pressed with his paw on her chest and ripped his claws up from her chest and towards her chin. If she wanted to gut him, he'd do it in turn. Maybe it was his last hurrah regardless, he'd go down fighting.
Nightstalker used Front Paw Strike, Dealing 10 Damage and Costing 7 Stamina.

A look of curiosity had passed between Blazefang and the named Sleepycloud as the relation of aunt and niece was revealed to her. It seemed that her bloodline had certainly made its way around the forest, but the tortoiseshell certainly couldn't pass any judgement. There would be no possible way for her to pass judgement, especially as she saw the blazing flame of her daughter beeline directly towards her den. "What- FIREFLY!" The tortoiseshell's voice bit out her daughter's name, but it seemed it was to no avail. Yowling and snarls quickly filled the air, and in a moment, the leader had dropped everything in order to handle the situation that had sprung up. There was something that her daughter had caught to cause such a violent reaction, but what--
It was the flash of a singular white paw that told her exactly what.
As much as it now made sense to her exactly why her daughter's blazing ire had suddenly reignited, the fact of the matter still stood: it was not acceptable. Launching herself forward, the leader sank her teeth into the russet molly's scruff, and yanked backwards. There was enough force behind the maneuver to certainly disorient the russet molly, and in a particularly strong thrust of her head, Mottlestar near-tossed Firefly directly away from the scuffle she had caused.
"Stand down! Acornstem! Get your mate and get her chest looked at. Escort Stormsong and Sleepycloud to where the medicine den is while you're at it. Nightdancer, find a patch of cobwebs and bring them to me for Nightstalker." And in case any cat hadn't heard her....
"Now."
Her lips curled back into a snarl as she bit out the order, before turning to the tom. "You've earned your welcome from one of your daughters. If you'd be so kind, please leave my den, and we'll assess your belly before I have to ask the question that is undoubtedly now on every Star-forsaken cats' mind: Why are you here?" It wasn't exactly unfriendly words that came out of the tortoiseshell's mouth, but stars did it convey the absolute exhaustion that she now had from the journey, and now what she had come back to. Hopefully, the other Clans had a much easier time.
Mottlestar used Scruff Shake on Firefly! Star Striker is active! Dealt 12 damage, and forcibly disengaged Firefly from the battle while using 20 stamina! Firefly 43 / 65 HP (-12) 105 / 130 SP

The strangers being ThunderClan was surprising, but acceptable: better than coming home to strange rogues. Nightstalker's emergence, however, was wholly unexpected; and Firefly's immediate assault almost as jarring. True, the whole thing had been deeply dramatic, and she'd had to reconsider her own thoughts on the tom for some time--but Mottlestar must have cared for him, to some extent, and she cared deeply for her leader.
It was hard to tell whether that thought had been well-founded at the time, and even harder now; but she had no reason to dwell on it in that moment, as she'd been given a task to complete. "Yes, Mottlestar," she assented, making her way to the medicine den to retrieve the requested cobwebs. They were easy to find, or at least easier to find than herbs; they stood out in comparison to piles of flowers and leaves.
She returned swiftly with what she hoped was an adequate amount of cobwebs. "Will this be enough? I know a bit about how to handle this sort of thing, but you know I'm not a medicine cat."
we know how to dare, we know how to dream —— info.

Acornstem had been so absorbed with the few cats before her, she hadn't seen the shadow slip from the leader's den nor Firefly's shove through the crowd until the shout of Mottlestar calling her mate's name caused her head to whip around - followed by the sound of snarls. Her heart leapt into her throat as she realized that Firefly had tackled one of the intruders - fearing not for the cat that had earned her mate's ire but for her own love's heart. She chased after Mottlestar, her heart going from her throat to the deepest pits of her stomach as she recognized the tom that Firefly had bowled over.
Nightstalker?!?
She stumbled to a surprised stop, mouth agape at the sight of the ex-ShadowClan leader but she couldn't help but feel her fur prickle. Why was he here...? She knew the offer Mottlestar had made moons ago - one that she had chosen to agree with in the end - she had come to accept that either the tom had perished in ShadowClan's care after all or had simply decided against it. She hadn't thought about the fact that he had been absence from the journey but with nothing being said about him... Her fur prickled, getting the sense that something was off but she was brought back into the moment as Mottlestar managed to pull Firefly away.
As her name was called, Acornstem quickly straightened up in surprise - she wasn't sure the last time she had seen Mottlestar this angry. She meekly nodded her head as she rushed to Firefly's side, nosing her mate's shoulder to help her on her paw. "Please, don't scare me like that," she murmured into her pelt. "I know you are angry at him and rightfully so but...Please, be mindful of your heart. The last thing I want is him being the one to take you away from me." With that said, she lifted her head to scan the crowd for the two medicine cats. "Echosong, Fawnshine! You heard Mottlestar - you have patients," she meowed before she glanced over at Stormsong and Sleepycloud with an apologetic look.
"I...Apologize - there is tension with that guest in particular but this is not the time or place to explain it. The medicine cat den is over there," she said as she dipped her head in the direction that Nightdancer had just disappeared and quickly emerged from, gently starting to shove Firefly in that direction - not giving her mate any room to try to make a move in any other direction. "They'll take great care of you while Mottlestar gets this...Mess sorted out."

Blazefang’s entire body bristled as another cat appeared in their midst. No. She would’ve attacked, but Firefly beat her to it. Even so, the old ginger made sure she was directly between the disgraced tom and her pregnant niece. She hadn’t gotten her family back only to have him take them away. “Mottlestar,” she growled. “At your next convenience, we need to talk.”
Echosong's eyes followed his leaders, blue eyes squinting at familiar tom. He had spent a while with him stuck in the Cutters, he had always thought Nightstalker was quite scary, but here...the scarred tom seemed...sad. Echosong felt a pang of pity where others felt anger. Though his eyes revealed nothing. The tom simply ignored him, continuing his walk to the medicine den. With a snort he pushed his way into the stony cave that made up the den. He had missed it: the small waterfall in the back of it which poured into a pool, the niches that made up the shelves that they stored herbs on that filled the right side of the cave. The nests that once were lined against the left wall of the cave were a little misshapen from not being used, they needed a bit of moss here and there. But overall they weren't as bad as he had been expecting.
He was just about to sit down and assess what they needed to gather before he heard yowling from the clearing, his name being screamed followed by Nightdancer entering, taking some cobwebs, and promptly exiting. Before he could say anything, or ask any questions, Firefly, Acornstem, Stormsong and Sleepycloud were all ushered into the den.
His eyes flickered between Firefly's bleeding chest to Acornstem before he waved a paw to one of the open nests behind him. "Sit there." he huffed, turning around and grabbing a big wad of cobwebs, a good amount of chamomile, a few juniper berries and a pawful of celandine that he shoved to Acornstem, "Chew this and smear it on her chest, wrap in cobwebs. Then both of you eat the chamomile." he meowed, his voice a little softer as he set down the cobwebs half of the chamomile and turned to Stormsong and Sleepycloud.
They couldn't be home for more than 10 seconds and they had to start something. It was never bored around Thunderclan, that was for sure.
"My name is Echosong, as you uh...might have heard." Echosong gave them a smile and gestured to a space a few tail lengths from Acornstem and Firefly, where they were out of the entrance and also had their own space. The tom took a breath and took a good look at Sleepycloud's belly and nodded, "Yes, a juniper berry a day should keep the medicine cat away, yes?" he meowed, hoping his joke could cut the tension, he pushed the three berries toward her and the rest of the chamomile, it was a calming flower, he didn't want her having kits in the middle of camp, and with the fighting and new cats she was surely stressed. The juniper berries were for general health and for stamping out any nausea.
The tom sat back and looked to Fawnshine for confirmation that he had done things correctly.

Stormsong hadn't exactly grown to love the grouchy old tom; the scowl on his face and the many scars he carried were warning enough of their own, but he had stayed and contributed to their temporary clan - and the warrior had half-a-mind to leap into combat then to pry the fiery red she-cat off him with tooth and claw... Hadn't Mottlestar the wisdom to make her will clear then.
With such sharp moments having passed so quickly, there was a thick, stuffy tension in the air with so many of them now crammed into the small, neglected medicine cat's den. He did his best to stay out of the way and lay next to Sleepycloud, his body pressed against hers protectively - moving only for the one who called himself Echosong.
"StarClan returned you home just in time," He meowed back, casually as he could, but he knew as well as his mate that with as late as she was, there was little chance for a peaceful nursery. To say the least. With that thought, he quickly swiped a tongue behind Sleepycloud's ear.
Not a trace of RiverClan clinging to her fur left, he noted.

Sleepycloud's purrs cut short as violence broke out between Nightstalker and a she-cat. Alarmed, Sleepycloud barely managed to stand as if she was going to intervene in the tom's defense. Sleepycloud knew that he had done nothing but support the others who had resided in the camp. She glanced towards Stormsong, hoping he might understand more, but as her new leader called for them to seek the medicine cats, the queen didn't have time to question exactly what had happened.
Leaning heavily on Stormsong, she made her way across the camp. Secluded from the others, she relaxed on the floor, lapping up the herb as prescribed. The she-cat didn't understand what any of the herbs were intended for. When she had poked around before the clan had arrived, whatever remained had little meaning to her. It was a shame that there were herbs that could have helped her previously. Her eyes slid shut, happily accepting Stormsong's affectionate lick. "Thank you, Echosong." Sleepycloud replied, thankful for the lack of destain for an outsider in his eyes. Hopefully, the rest of the clan was like that, too. However, the results of what happened outside were in front of her, with herbs applied to Firefly and Acornstem.
"I'm sorry if this is private; if so, you needn't reply. But--" She paused to raise her head and watch the two cats with concern. "What is the history of Nightstalker that he should be attacked?" Sleepycloud and Stormsong left before Nightstalker left his role as leader of ShadowClan. So much had to have happened between then and now...

Passing leaf-bare days all blended together. Chad grew more accustomed to the company of his regular companions, despite any formal regulation between the pawful of them. Whatever bits of clan life flowed through every cat gathered in the heart of Thunderclan's territory had comprised a mock neutrality, binding them, as each went about their own duties. The young brown and white tom found himself enjoying the company of Stormsong and Sleepycloud. As his respect grew for the close pair of warriors, so did his desire to become more like them.
All at once, his silent plea to ancestors he hoped existed, came true. The clan exploded with the scents of many cats, followed by excited chatter and wary calls. Bright blue eyes widened and he padded slowly towards the center of camp. A variety of pelts, cats of all ages, flooded into the camp. It was as if Chad's dreams had materialized before him in an instant. Doubts had begun to cloud his mind, a resignation that this would be life forever. But it was happening. Thunderclan was here.
A torrent of emotions churned in his chest. For several long moments, the tom was rooted to his spot. Cats called out, his companions greeted their old friends, a spat likely with good reason was started in Nightstalker's hiding place. It was that sound that snapped him from his stupor. Eyes briefly settling on Fawnshine, he found himself blinking in surprise at her mismatched gaze before turning to the cat he'd identified as Mottlestar. Could it be?
"Well, I hate to interrupt what is such a happy reunion... Nightstand sure has a way of making friends, huh?" Chad padded forward, addressing the leader in a rather brazen manner but lacking any levels of disrespected. He had briefly caught the way she regarded him earlier, before the interruption had broken out, "The name's Chad. I think you knew my parents. Stoatfur and Appledapple. I traveled here to join Thunderclan. Glad you all made it back. We kept the nests warm."

There was no time wasted on the Thunderclan cats parts to pry his attacker off of him, which from Mottlestar's elaboration was his... daughter? Did he hear that right? Well, at least it seemed that he had given Thunderclan and Mottlestar formidable warriors, he wondered who else he was the father of. Mottlestar drew his attention back just as he was feeling the slight spark of getting to know his kits... His children. Why was he here? He himself hardly knew now that he didn't know what he wanted...
Chad spoke up and butchered his name and the old tom's lips peeled back into a grimace and his brows furrowed, mixed between bashing the younger tom on the head or peeling his lips back in a sardonic grin. Then he turned back to Mottlestar,
"I took up the offer. Shadowclan would rather see me rot than care for me out of obligation to a clanmate. I found that I'd rather not serve a community that'd rather me die, I hold no love for them but my sister. I'm certain that Thunderclan would be willing to at least show me tolerance as I've demonstrated with Stormsong, Sleepyhollow... and Chad. And perhaps, I would like to become a part of my kit's lives..." Nightstalker meowed, doing his best not to project his voice too loud.
"Besides. I'm not long for this world I'm sure of it. I'm going grey and I am certain that what I've done or could do will finish Starclan's job. At least give me a purpose before some cat puts me down like a piece of prey, let me at least serve the one cat I have fond memories with until I'm gone. Please." He whispered the last part despite Mottlestar's words on answering all of the clan cats' curiosities.

Crocusfrost was astonished by the swift and violent reaction from Firefly as she shoved past clanmates with a strength not befitting an elder just returning from a gruelling trip. The black tom went down within an instant, two relatively wiry cats writhing on the ground for what seemed like heartbeats before Acornstem and Mottlestar and a few other cats were ripping apart the feuding pair, the two leaving each other a parting gift it seemed.
Her eyes narrowed dangerously at the black tom, the name Nightstalker being thrown amongst the clan with hate in their tones. Moving forward the large she-cat located her apprentice, Kestrelpaw, "You would like to know where to collect most for your nest, yes? We are home, so we can make it very comfortable." Crocusfrost promised, beckoning the young she-cat away from the spat that unfolded, she did not need to see the conflict now. Just rest.
Crocusfrost suggests to Kestrelpaw to make a super comfy nest! Time to find the best spots for moss!

Acornstem watched in silent nervousness as Echosong swept into the den and quickly set to work, pushing herbs at Acornstem with orders that she quickly took to. She had no knowledge of how herbs really worked - it was far outside of her comfort zone but she trusted in whatever her friend had to say. Chewing the herbs and smearing it onto Firefly's wound - notable not caring to be gentle as a slight showing of her annoyance toward her mate's action. As she finished, shaking her paw to try to free it from what little of the chewed herbs stuck to her paw, she heard Sleepycloud raise a question - what had Nightstalker done?
She could only sigh at that, her tail flickering across Firefly's muzzle to keep her from answering right away as she grabbed the cobwebs and started to apply them. "I'm not sure if you are aware but Nightstalker was once leader of ShadowClan. He...Notable became leader on the same night of Mottlestar if I recall correctly, which led to..." She drifted off, heat building at her cheeks as she finished dabbing the cobwebs over Firefly's wound. "A bad decision from the both of them. They both are my love's parents," she murmured, leaning forward to press her forehead against Firefly's face with a comforting purr. "None of us knew for moons - other than Mottlestar of course - until the WindClan medicine cat the time revealed it at the Gathering. It...It was hard for us all to accept, both Clans were thrown into turmoil but we all chose to forgive Mottlestar in the end but... Nightstalker was not the best leader of ShadowClan and he did not gain back their favor - which led him to step down."
It felt like an understatement, with how his final Gathering as leader had ended with him being struck by lighting which had been the exact end of his leadership as she understood it - which had been her first Gathering as deputy. "Not many cats have a fond option of him and I can hardly blame Firefly for despising the tom who wanted nothing to do with her. I'm...Not surprised to find him here in some sense however - I knew Mottlestar had made an offer to get him out of ShadowClan as they clearly didn't care for him anymore...But this wasn't how any of us expected it to go. I surely thought that he had turned down the offer after a few moons of silence..." She shook her head, finally leaning down to eat the chamomile that had been laid out for her and Firefly. "Those who remember him as leader... I don't know if anybody will approve of his presence - not without the opportunity to explain it first like I had been expecting," she admitted as she glanced nervously towards the clearing.

She could feel his crooked talon against her chest digging in deep, his intentions not unnoticed. Had she been in her right mind, she would have weighed the pros and cons of dying together with him. But her blood burned with fury and she was not about to let him go--
Yoink!
As though she were a fiesty kit in need of correction, Firefly was nabbed by the scruff by Mottlestar and forcefully removed from her scuffle with Nightstalker. Falling limp in her mothers jaws, it was as though she had been reset; though her sense coming back to her brought attention to a different problem: her heart frantic in its beat that thumped against her chest painfully. Tired. She was suddenly so tired. Every breath hurt. The intervention of her mother and Acornstem gave her no choice but to give in - though her blood still simmered in her russet ears. One last snarl of disgust cast in Nightstalker's direction, she allowed herself to be ushered into the medicine den where Echosong nodded to a nest for her to lay in. Her own nod given in acknowledgment and silent thanks.
Sleepycloud's question made her ears twitch, her remarks on Nightstalker cut off before they even began as Acornstem hushed her with her fluffy tail. It was just as well that Firefly wasn't the one to speak... Even if the searing pain in her chest wasn't there, she shouldn't be opening her mouth while angry. Instead, she held still for her mate to apply the herbs and cobwebs to the gaping wound on her chest that was bound to scar.
As Acornstem recalled the history with Nightstalker, she couldn't help but get worked up over it. Though the soothing purr that resonated against her russet and black forehead as the deputy caught on helped alleviate the tension. Embracing the feeling, she leaned in to meet the squirrel-like deputy fully. "He took one of her lives without even touching her... Stress taking her on the Great Rock the night their affair was announced. " She added on, though mumbled. "Stripped of his own lives will never be enough." Her head was like a weight, it falling to her paws. The only regret she held from this whole ordeal was the obvious time it took off her already declining lifespan. The short life she had dedicated to Acornstem slipping further away. That was what she felt bad for. Nothing else.
Green eyes fluttered closed as exhaustion caught up with her. Light snoring was the only sounds she would be making for a while as her mate's scent lulled her into a dreamless sleep. She could be angry another time.
