WindClan Duties And Patrols(Jan 2024): Hunting

Sootstorm shook out his fur in attempt to shake off the little snowflakes that had settled in his fur. He glanced over at his patrolmate, his leader and mentor, Tigerdance. They were supposed to be on a hunting patrol, but he felt as if his nose might freeze off. The deputy gave his muzzle a few quick licks, then tried tasting the air again. This time, he caught the faint scent of hares. Sootstorm signalled with his tail for Tigerdance to look over at the crowd of three hares, snow-white pelt still carrying specks of brown amongst the snowy landscape. They didn't have to say anything to understand what to do: someone would creep up behind the hares and scare them to the other, who would be waiting patiently for the hares to run straight into their claws. His head tipped, as if asking his leader what he wanted to do.

Sootstorm caught the signal from Tigerdance, and began moving into position. He rounded up on the hares, lingering just out of their vision as he made his way forward. He slid into position, body tense as he waited for his leader's signal. When it came at last, he wasted no time in bursting forward, taking long strides as he closed in on the hares. They scattered, so desperate in their attempt to flee him that they ran straight into his partner's claws. While Tigerdance dealt with a hare, Sootstorm put on a burst of speed and flung himself at another, claws digging into it's flank and bringing it in close to kill it off.
