Unlike how he had grown up, Myrtlepaw was constantly one the move, meaning that though she had little time to train her skills, she was exposed to many situations, which would hopefully hone her skills in ways no pouncing-on-leaves lesson would. Shatteredsky had been monitering her progress carefully, and finally he decided to take a step back and observe how far she had come. She had been given basic instructions: catch three prey, which prey or how she would go about doing so was left to her. Let's see how much she really has learned.
Myrtlepaw walked into the snow-covered treeline scanning the frozen scenery for any signs of prey. As she saw sniffing the air with her eyes closed a small feather floated down and landed on her nose, 'A bird? I could try to catch a bird' Myrtlepaw thought to herself. She searched the trees and finally found the plump little bird sitting on a branch, she crouched down and waited for the bird to come to the ground.
The bird was not oblivious and had spotted Myrtlepaw long before she notice it, her pelt did make her stick out in the white snow. The bired ended up flying high out of the trees and out of Myrtlepaw's sight.
Myrtlepaw growled as she realized she failed her first hunt

Myrtlepaw was still crouched down and grumbling at herself for thinking she could catch a bird when she heard shuffling in the snow. She stopped grumbling and perked her ears forward. The shuffling wasn't loud enough to be a predator so it must be a prey. She quietly inched forward to peek around the tree, as she peered around she saw a bushy tail flickering in the snow as its owner dug around in the snow. 'A squirrel totally unaware of my presence is the perfect prey' Myrtlepaw thought as she prepared to pounce. She waited until the squirrel tucked its head into the hole it dug and then she pounced, snapping its neck with ease.
Myrtlepaw grabbed the limp squirrel and headed out of the treeline to bury her prey in the snow.
The hunt was successful and Myrtlepaw heads back into the treeline to hunt again

As Myrtlepaw walked back into the treeline she noticed a small grey rodent scurrying in front of a tree. Over-confident from her fresh kill, she darts in and lunges at the small critter. Unfortunately for her it darted into its den while her head bonked the tree. Snow fell from some low hanging branchs and covered Myrtlepaw.
The hunt was unsuccessful and Myrtlepaw is left shaking the snow off her head

Defeated and disappointed, Myrtlepaw digs up her squirrel and carries it back to her mentor with her head hanging low.
"I'm no good at hunting" Myrtlepaw mewed as she dropped the squirrel in front of Shatteredsky, "I Just got lucky with the squirrel"

Shatteredsky couldn't help the irritated flick of his tail when Myrtlepaw missed two of her three attempts at catching prey. With Leafbare at it's heights, the Clan needed all the prey that they could get, and here his apprentice was, letting two prey that could have easily been used to feed an entire litter of kits get away. Shatteredsky shook his head in disappointment. "I'm glad too," He mewed when he caught Myrtlepaw's last words. If Paledove was here, she'd either be very angry at her daughter or turning a blind eye to her failures. He supposed he should teach her how to hunt again, since she seemed to have forgotten everything, and with a reluctant sigh he attempted to catch wind of any prey that may still be lurking around despite her mistakes.
Thankfully, it didn't take long for him to catch the scent of a crow. Shatteredsky signalled for Myrtlepaw to remain silent, then crouched down and stalked towards it. His posture was perfect; belly not brushing the ground at all, but back kept straight so that he didn't rise above the undergrowth. His pounce was aimed perfectly, and he landed squarly on the bird before killing it before it could even react. "That's how you do it. I want you to try again, and for StarClan's sake focus this time," His words to his apprentice was rude, but not without reason. If she wanted to learn anything, she'd have to try harder than she is now.
Grumbling to herself, Myrtlepaw crouches down in the underbrush, scanning her surroundings for prey. Once again, she sees a plump bird, except this time its hopping round pecking at the snow. 'Perfect a bird, Is it even worth going after?' She thought to herself. Not wanting to get scolded by Shatteredsky for letting prey go, she jumps out at the bird, stunning it with a smack from her front paw. She finished it off with a bite to the neck and then carried it back to her mentor.
"Happy?" She asked coldly, making sure not to make eye contact with the tom. She knew she had disappointed him before, because she disappointed herself. She couldn't help but feel anger towards him, but really she was just mad at herself for failing at everything she attempted to do.

Shatteredsky had been expecting for Myrtlepaw to miss her catch again, but it seems like his apprentice wasn't as bad as he had thought. Or maybe he was just an amazing mentor. He ignored the cold tone that was used by the patch-furred tabby, he spoke up once more, "The catch wasn't the neatest, but I suppose it'll have to do for now. Pick up your catches and bring them back to camp. Make sure all the elders have been fed, then you can take a break until dusk patrols." With that, he dismissed her with a flick of his tail, then bent down to pick up his own catch.
