Crowpaw's Hunting Assessment

The gray sky hung low over the territories, swollen with rain and snow. The forest seemed to hold it's breath, waiting for a storm that may never arrive. Clumps of snow clung to the forest floor desperately, refusing to fade away. Although the weather was less than perfect, and it was cold enough to send any cat back into their dens, one she-cat was stirring.
Sharptooth grumbled and heaved herself out of her den. "Crowpaw!" She barked, stumbling towards the fresh-kill pile. She'd conferred with Leopardclaw only a few sunrises ago about Crowpaw's assessment, and today was as good a day as ever. Despite it being Leafbare, she was confident her apprentice would perform his assessment well.

Crowpaw winced as he heard his mentors voice. He got up from where he was sitting and walked out into the cold. He saw his mentor by the fresh-kill pile and walked over. "Yes Sharptooth?" he asked and looked at the warrior. He shivered a little and wonderd what they where gonna do.
He looked around at the camp, not a single cat out except for Crowpaw and Sharptooth.

"It's high time you've had your assessment. You're an obedient apprentice and a loyal Thunderclanner; I've already spoken to Leopardclaw." Those words were high praise coming from Sharptooth, and she was already walking towards the camp exit.
Once they had walked a short while into the forest, the fluffy she-cat turned to her apprentice. "We've gone over your hunting assessment before, but just in case you forgot anything, I'll tell you again. You have until sundown to complete your assessment. I will follow you and remain hidden throughout your assessment. To complete your assessment, you must catch three different pieces of prey. Feel free to start whenever you're comfortable." She said the last sentence sarcastically, casting a worried look at the sun.

Crowpaw nodded and glanced at the sun quickly before he headed deeper into the territory. He sniffed around while he where stalking through the territory. He caught the scent of a bird and got into a crouching position. He stopped a couple steps away from it and pounced on it.

Before he manged to dig his claws into the bird it noticed him and flew of.

He sniffed around again and caught the scent of two mice. He snuck up to one of them and then he pounced on it.

He caught the mouse and saw the other one run away. He didn't bother to much about it, he had after all caught one mouse and one is better than none.

He buried the mouse in the snow and stalked of in search of more prey.
After awhile he saw a rabbit and slowly stalked towards it, making sure to be as quiet as possible. Once he were close enough to the rabbit he stopped and waited a little.

He took a small step closer and accidentally stepped on a stick which broke and scared the rabbit away. He sighed and looked at it as it ran away.

He walked around a little until he caught the scent of a squirrel. There's alot of prey even if it's leaf-bare he thought as he followed the scent of the squirrel. He got into a hunting crouch and slowly creept towards it. He stopped for a second and then he quickly pounced on it.

Before the squirrel noticed him, he had caught the squirrel and snapped it's neck.

"Okay, one more piece of prey" he mumbled and walked back to where he'd buried the mouse and buried the squirrel there too.

He looked up and noticed that the sun where close to sundown. He looked around and saw a bird landing by a small tree. He once again and hopefully the last time today got into a hunting crouch and stalked towards the bird slowly. He made sure not to step on any sticks or anything. He then stopped and waited for the right moment.

When the bird where peaking on the ground trying to find food in the snow Crowpaw pounced on it and bit it with a killing bite in the neck. He smiled slightly as he caught the last piece of prey that he needed to catch.

He ran back to the other prey that he'd buried. He dug it up and sat down "Sharptooth! I'm done!" he called out for his mentor and looked around.

Sharptooth nodded in approval as she slunk out of the undergrowth. "Excellent work. I'm sure you'll be a warrior in no time, Crowpaw."

He smiled and picked up the prey he'd caught and started walking back to camp.
