Subject: Harekit's Apprentice Ceremony Thu 11 Jan 2024 - 16:46
Wolfblossom leapt to the makeshift tallbranch, a soft scattering of snow falling to the ground as she did. Today was an apprentice ceremony long overdue, and she was as excited for this one as she had been for the kit's siblings, now that her grandson seemed to be faring a little better. The medicine cats were on the way to getting some of their clanmates better, and she hoped that Harekit's condition would continue to improve.
"Let all cats old enough to climb a tree gather before me for a clan meeting!" She called out, the rasp in her voice because of her own illness still evident.
Harekit pulled himself up out of the Medicine Den.. yes the medicine den. He out grew the nursery after a while and had no where else to stay aside from the medicine den. Even after all this time he still wasn't the size he was supposed to be. His sickness prevented him from eating for the longest time so he couldn't grow, but now it had seemed to subside a bit. He was able to eat, and he was growing but there was still a long way for him to go to catch up with his siblings. The golden tom sighed internally, expecting the call to be another apprentice ceremony for another kit. Even if it was his, he was pretty sure they were only doing it because they pitied him. Grey blue eyes stared up at his grandmother from the back, waiting for this meeting to be over with.
A pale golden tom emerged from the medicine den, and Wolfblossom's gaze softened at the sight of her grandson. He had not been spared illness, and he was only just now beginning to recover. He had watched his siblings leave the nursery behind, but today was finally his turn. "Harekit, step forward." She called, a smile lighting her expression.
Once the tom had done so, Wolfblossom spoke, "It is long past time that you become an apprentice Harekit, from now until you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Harepaw," Wolfblossom began, "Your mentor... Will be Beechfang. She is a senior warrior, and a skilled one. I trust her to train you well." For all the tension that her mother's existence within the clan had stirred, she was still a part of Skyclan. She was a healthy warrior... And, Wolfblossom hoped, a former medicine cat would not push Harepaw straight back into the den within the first week of training. Her mother would know how to deal with the limits of a cat who had been sick for so long and work to extend them.
---
The named tabby sat among the crowd as Wolfblossom began another ceremony. Harekit had been a sickly tom from the start, but he was finallywell enough to venture forth, it seemed. The former medicine cat had mostly left his care to the current ones, but he hadn't escaped her notice. None of Falconmoon's kits had, but she felt for Harekit, watching his siblings progress so rapidly in their training.
She hadn't taken an apprentice in some time, but simply dipped her head to her daughter up on the tallbranch, turning and padding toward the newly named Harepaw. "Congratulations, Harepaw." Beechfang was far from the most excitable of cats, but there was warmth in her tone. "Come, we'll start now." She added. Were she in his position, Beechfang was sure she would have been antsy and impatient to get started on training. He was still ill, but he wasn't nestbound, and that training would have to start either way. She would not push him beyond what he could handle just yet, but they would work to that.
Brackenpaw was surprised to see Harekit joining the clan meeting, but he couldn’t deny that his brother was looking much better than before. He should have been made an apprentice moons ago, but even now his brother had only just reached the size of the youngest apprentices. Hopefully, today StarClan would stop dishonouring his brother and let him join the ranks of the apprentices with him and their other siblings. The larger tom siddled up next to his brother, frowning at how the sickness had taken their mother had done its best to take Harekit. Harekit still looked sickly, he probably wouldn’t make a good apprentice, but to have fought for so long, and now to look like the tide was shifting Brackenpaw supposed his brother somewhere deep down had the heart of a warrior. Brackenpaw would make sure he earned his warrior name too, and he hoped Shatteredpaw would keep his end of their promise. Honeypaw and Harekit would make fine warriors through their guidance. Flamekit… Well, Brackenpaw swallowed, he had to keep his focus on Honeypaw and Harekit now, not dwell on that.
Brackenpaw watched as his grandmother took to the tall branch, her commanding voice booming out over the gathered crowd. Brackenpaw straightened his spine, awaiting what she said. The faintly brindled tom jumped up at the sound of Harkit’s name, letting out a loud purr. Now him and his siblings were all together again, he could look after everyone better, and now Harekit could join him and Honeypaw in their training. He ought to invite Shatteredpaw to join them, but… he was far from Shatteredpaw’s biggest fan at the moment, given their recent interactions, Family was family though. Brackenpaw quit his mussing, and joined in chanting Harekit’s new name, Harepaw. “Harepaw, Harepaw, Harepaw!” he yowled

Honeypaw
Honeypaw raced over to the newly-named Harepaw at the end of the ceremony, her big blue eyes shining with excitement for her brother.
"Harepaw!" she yowled, catching up to him and his mentor before they disappeared. "I- I just wanted to say, I'm happy you'll be joining us in the apprentice's den!" Honeypaw struggled to catch her breath. "I'll get a nest ready for you by the time you come back," she promised him, and cast a glance up to his mentor. Beechfang... She had heard bits and pieces of stories told about Beechfang throughout camp. She wasn't sure how to feel about the senior warrior - respect or intimidation. Maybe a mix of both? Not as scary as Sunfire, she decided, and suddenly felt a little better.
"I hope you have fun, Harepaw!" she purred once more, blinking kindly at him, before turning away to go find some clean moss for a new nest in the apprentice's den tonight.
