Kitekit's Apprentice Ceremony

Another kit had reached the age of six months and was ready to take his place in the Apprentice Den. As Scorchclaw gazed down from his perch on the Willow Branch, he searched the clearing for any sight of Kitekit. He was sure the young tom knew what was about to happen that evening. Drawing a deep breath, he cried out the traditional summons that would seize the attention of every RiverClan cat present. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the Willow Branch for a clan meeting!"

Minnowslip nudged her kit forward, hurrying up the little golden kit into taking his place centre stage. Kitekit looked up at the deputy with wide eyes, looking every bit his age. Young and very unprepared for the responsibilities ahead of him.

Lightstep lay in the center of camp, enjoying what little sunshine he could find in the rather dull leaf-fall day, when the summon rang out. The white tom sat upright and shook the dirt from his pelt, looking from his deputy to movement at the nursery. His heart fluttered as he spotted a young kit being nudged forward, looking nervous but excited. An apprentice ceremony. Lightstep chuckled and joined the gathering crowd of cats.

Arriving just in time from a hunt was Mottledspark, his dark tortoiseshell-and-white coat ruffled from his time out of camp. He set his bird down and joined the rest of the Clan, eyeing the small gold tom-kit curiously.

In the face of Kitekit's wide gaze, Scorchclaw's stony mask barely shifted. He swept his pale-green gaze across the gathered cats, taking note that most of RiverClan were present. There was no more time to waste. Lashing his fluffy tail once, he began the ceremony. "Kitekit, step forward." The crowd was quick to part for the young tom, and he soon stood right before the willow tree. "Kitekit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day onward until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Kitepaw. Your mentor will be Ravenflight. She is a kind, loyal warrior of RiverClan. I believe that she will train you well." The words having left his mouth, he settled back to watch as the new apprentice touched noses with his mentor.
