The Badger's Word[C]

Tawnyshadow trailed behind Badgermask, her pelt prickling with nervousness. Badgermask had been chosen to be Shadowclan's temporary deputy, and was a good choice, but they had never met before, and to be called on patrol with her was nerve-racking. She hadn't done anything wrong, had she? The warrior quickly ran through all that she had done in the past moon but found nothing that could possibly make Badgermask pick her to go on a patrol together... alone. It was just the two of them.

Badgermask, honestly, had no idea why she had picked Tawnyshadow to join her other than the she-cat had simply been there as an option... And perhaps, she noted with a sigh, that she had to get to know her Clanmates better. They had loosely been on patrols here and there together but had never spoken a word to one another in truth but if Badgermask wanted to be the best acting deputy she could, she had to get to know her Clanmates better...Even if the thought made her fur prickle.

She came to a halt as she took in a deep breath, before turning to look at Tawnyshadow. "We should start hunting, yes?" she meowed, sparing a glance around as she tasted the air. They were close to the Pine Grove which meant hopefully a good bit of prey could be located. The more prey they could bring back, the better - anything to help ease the burden of leadership that had been put on her mother's shoulders. Her tail twitched, unsure if there was more she should say - she certainly didn't know what else to say. Simply focusing on the purpose of this patrol seemed good enough as she completely missed Tawnyshadow's discomforts and quiet terror over why she had been invited along.

It seems that any worry she had was unnecessary, as Badgermask got straight to hunting. Tawnyshadow dipped her head in agreement, then tasted the air and padded away in search of prey. The scent of frog guided her paws to her prey almost without thinking, and before she knew it she had killed the frog. She had caught the prey, but still... the feeling of not focusing on it made her catch feel almost messy.

Badgermask turned as Tawnyshadow stepped away, a silent huff escaping her. This was far from what she had been expecting of her life - she wasn't one for...Bonding with her Clanmates or whatever. She just wanted to be a warrior and nothing more, being acting deputy was...She wasn't sure how she felt. The title felt odd on her tongue, the burden it carried uneasy on her shoulders. But...She could focus on her duties, at least. Do what was expected of her and forget what it all meant in the eyes of her Clanmates - pretend she was a normal warrior. Soon enough, everything would go back to normal and it would be welcoming...

She shook her head, tasting the air as she knew she ought to do hunting of her own. It only took a little bit of pacing around until she caught the smell of a frog. Her lips curled at the sight of it, it was far from her favorite thing - the texture of the skin was...Bleh but prey was prey. One of her Clanmates would eat it, and that was enough for her. Dropping into a crouch, she stalked forward and pinned it with no real issue - easily ending its life before she stood up and padded back to see if Tawnyshadow had been as lucky.
