Fighting Badgers, Part 1 (Closed)

Today was another one of those days. As they had passed by Lone Stump, Nectarleap could almost see the spirits of Heathershade and Stoneheart, hunting and having a good time like they used to. Everything reminded him of something he did with a loved one. Each rabbit burrow was like the one that costed Sootpaw one of her catches, each pile of snow causing him to relive memories of his mother and sisters. It was enough to drive a cat insane. He probably was going insane, having all these common things remind him of something special. Even as he walked by Stormpaw and was reminded of everything he still had, the fact that his first apprentice had died and he hadn't saved her was all he could think when he looked at him. Blizzardpaw, Dogpaw, and Stoneheart wouldn't have died if it weren't for that disease. His mate wouldn't have died if it weren't for that dog, and Fawnpaw wouldn't have died if it wasn't for that badger. All their deaths were caused by something completely out of his control, and that made everything more infuriating. A cat couldn't go after two leg monsters or sicknesses to get revenge. That dog was probably somewhere that would take many moons of walking to get to. And how could he take on a badger? He didn't even know where the cursed thing was! That thought was still fresh in his mind when he caught the faint and distant scent. It was a badger. Though it was probably his grief ridden mind talking, something inside of him told him it was the same badger that killed his daughter. He would be a horrible father not to get revenge.
"I smell a badger. We are going to go kill it so it can't kill any of our classmates, like how it did with Fawnpaw. Follow me." His voice was commanding with a hint of anger. Any cat but him could tell he wasn't thinking straight. But he was the warrior on this patrol, and no one else had much of a choice except for listening to him. Killing that badger seemed like it would take the weight of not being there to save his daughter off of his shoulders. This badger would never kill any of his classmates again. He would make sure of it. He broke out him a sprint towards the scent, though stopping so the apprentices could catch up. It didn't matter if they agreed or not, they were going to do this. They would avenger Fawnpaw's death.

Stormpaw has been walking close by Nectarleap, worried. The warrior had experienced far too much grief recently, he had seen him crying and sulking in the back of the warrior den. He hated to see his mentor like this, but what could he do about it? Nothing.

That was, until Nectarleap announced they were going to go hunt down a badger.

What? What was he thinking? There was no way they could do that without losing another one of them! But, he was Stormpaw’s mentor, and the leader of the patrol, and an experienced warrior. He had no choice but to follow, no matter how uneasy he felt about it.

A badger? Awesome! Dovepaw's mind began to race with fantasies on how she would be the one to lay the final blow on the badger and end it once and for all. Her yellow eyes began to sparkle with excitement and ambition as Nectarleap began to race towards the source of the scent. Without saying a word, the gray tabby let her paws carry her at full speed as she followed the warrior on the patrol. When they encountered the badger, she was going to fight her hardest. This time, she wouldn't hold back, like she had done with Wolfpaw. She couldn't help but narrow her yellow eyes a bit as she thought bitterly about the tom. Perhaps she could use some of that anger on the badger.

Jaypaw rushed to the camp entrance when he heard that Nectarleap announce that they were killing the badger who had taken the life of Fawnpaw. The young tom was in for the patrol. He kept pace with his sister, Stormpaw, and Nectarleap.

OOC: Yep, battle system. I'll rp the badger. Anyone mind getting KO?

IC: Once the apprentices had caught up to him, Nectarleap started running again, this time not caring who was caught up to him and who wasn't That badger needed to die as soon as possible. He closed his eyes, and could almost see Fawnpaw urging him on. Of course, those visions were caused by grief and nothing else, but the warrior was far from realizing that. For his daughter's sake, that badger would never roam the face of earth again after this day. Pretty soon, he saw the brute. It was it a little ways outside the territory, in the weird fields next to the abandoned barn. Not quite moors, and twoleg smelling. It was right next to the Thunderpath, but on the same side. Upon seeing it, something in the usually lighthearted warrior snapped. This must be the badger that had killed his daughter. With a yowl of anguish he hurtled himself towards it. Once close enough, the amber eyed feline pushed off his hind legs, using moons of practicing leaping for a whole new purpose. He landed square between the gray creature's shoulders, digging his hind claws into its back and raking his claws down it's spine repeatedly, creating streams of blood. This was something he had taught his apprentices, and now he was using it to his own advantage.

Nectarleap used Leap-and-Hold on Badger, dealing 13 damage and costing 10 stamina. Badger can't hurt him for 2 turns.

ic: Jaypaw wasted no time in joining Nectarleap. He ran at the badger, which was being distracted by Nectarleap's attack, and knocked into the beast, which sent him stumbling. He got back and readied himself for the next move.

Stormpaw stopped dead when he saw the badger. Unpleasant memories of the other badger he had to fight forced themselves into his mind. His pupils dilated in fear. He couldn't do this. He couldn't do this. What if it knocked him out again? What if it crippled him? What if it killed him like Fawnpaw? The thought sent shivers down his spine. No. He was a loyal WindClan cat. He could do this. It was all fine. He hissed and swiped at the badger with outstretched claws.

Dovepaw's hooked claws slipped out of their sheaths once she laid eyes upon the badger. She, well... they, were going to rip this creature to shreds. Glancing over at her brother, Jaypaw, and watching as he attacked, a light began to shine in her yellow eyes. With a sudden burst of speed, and while being fueled by her adrenaline, the gray tabby she-cat leaped over towards the other side of the badger and fiercely swiped at the huge, dangerous animal.

The badger hadn't seen the cats. It had been digging for bugs, hoping to get enough to stay alive. But when the cat's claws suddenly dug into its back, it knew that it was time to fight. After failing to buck the tom off of its back, three more pairs of paws hit into it's side. These were cats that could easily be attacked. Its dark beady eyes focused on the small gray tom, and reared up in preparation. On of its massive paws hit the apprentice's side with a lot of power, knocking him right into the ground. It hadn't asked to be attacked.

Badger used Heavy Blow on Jaypaw, dealing 25 damage and costing 20 stamina.

Too caught up in his thirst for vengeance, Nectarleap held on tightly to the badgers back. His back claws dug into its fur to steady him as he kept raking his claws down the creature's spine. The now steady trickle of blood just motivated him, thinking that this badger should feel everything that Fawnpaw had to go through. When he made up his mind, nothing could stop him. And for some reason, the feeling of fur and blood under his claws just did the opposite. It deserved this.

Nectarleap continues to use Leap-and-Hold, dealing 13 damage and costing 10 stamina.

Jaypaw started his next attack, but the badger had its sights locked on the gray apprentice. The brute smacked him to the ground and his world went black.

Stormpaw barely suppressed a shriek of terror as Jaypaw was knocked to the ground. That looked so, so painful! Was that what it looked like when the badger knocked him out? He backed away slightly, his claws sinking into the ground as he tried to get his breath back. He was shaking in fear as he moved forwards to swipe at the beast with his claws. His eyes were wide and petrified as he scrambled to get out of it’s reach as fast as was possible.
