Tonight we feed ShadowClan [OPEN HUNTING PATROL]

It was such a lovely night: stars peeked out through the clouds, the moon illuminating the open clearing. Usually, monsters seemed to come back and forth here, carrying twolegs within them. But tonight, no such dangers were in sight.

Harriertalon announced that she would be hunting in Pine Grove, she hoped her fellow clanmates had followed her.

Any excuse to take a break from rebuilding was a welcome one, even if it meant he had to hunt. Still, he was glad to be a part of this patrol, considering who was leading it.

Badgermask had quickly followed after Harriertalon the moment her sister had announced her intent - any chance to hang with her was a good enough excuse...Doing so while aiding the Clan was simply another perk. She stood not far from Harriertalon, tail held high in excitement as she waited to see if anybody else would join them - sparing a glance towards Sablestrike. She still hadn't fully decided what she thought about the tom, but she was starting to warm up to him - he seemed earnest in his efforts at least but tonight would simply serve as another chance to try to solidify her options on him.

One more young cat bounded forward to join the patrol: Snailpaw. She wasn't the best hunter, not yet anyway, but she wanted desperately to practice some more. Hunting was pretty fun, even if the frogs were sometimes a bit too good at traversing the mud for her liking. The mostly white apprentice didn't know the warriors too well. All she knew was that Badgermask was very particular about who she spent time with and that was about it. She didn't realize how her paws kneaded the ground, her little white claws easily slicing through the damp soil, nervousness and excitement prickling her pelt. "Can I come too?" Why was her voice so small? Anyway, she looked mostly to Harriertalon for confirmation, with her jade-colored eyes flitting to both Badgermask and Sablestrike with a tad of uncertainty.

Harriertalon nodded a greeting to Sablestrike, her gaze lingering for a bit before turning to sister. A newly named warrior. She was so proud of Badgermask for building up confidence in her own abilities. ShadowClan would continue to prosper with her sister on their side.

At the sound a voice much like a mouse, the warrior turn to face Snailpaw. Not a cat she knew very well, but it was a pleasure to be in the apprentices company. "Absolutely! But stick close to us." The last thing she wanted was anyone to be alone and get ambushed by whatever could be lurking in the night.

Her ears perked, something catching her eye. Crouched low, she slowly stalked her way towards it: a lizard who had foolishly came out of hiding under a log. Her muscle tensed before her back paws launched her forward. It was strange that the slimy lil guy didn't react much. Could be because of how cold it was.

Harriertalon successfully caught a lizard!

Sablestrike noted the apprentice's arrival, and her nervous kneading. Shadowclan's budding talents hadn't disappointed him so far, and he was sure that trend wouldn't be stopped by this one either. The tom offered Snailpaw a reassuring nod. "I can't wait to see what you catch, Snailpaw. Find something exceptional and there might be a reward for you." That reward was what any bright apprentice wanted, a friendly sparring session with a warrior and a bit of praise.

Sablestrike departed from the group, a scent drawing his attention. The tom began to stalk in the direction of the scent, and before long the soft skitter of tiny paws filled Sablestrike's ears. A small rodent darted out from behind a stump, and the warrior leapt at it. His paws met with the mouse, keeping it in place as he finished the thing off swiftly. It was a scrawny thing, but it was still a decent meal... For Leaf-Bare standards...

Badgermask spared a glance over at the final arrival - an apprentice. She nodded her head in acknowledgement of her, thought she offered no words as she turned to do hunting of her own as the other warriors separated to do their own hunt. Heading off in her own corner, she closed her eyes as she tasted the air. She could scent a few different things, thought she was sure her Clanmates were hunting the ones further away. Nearby her however, she caught wind of a toad - and located it swiftly opened opening her eyes and scouring the nearby area and spotted it - a dull brown thing blending in on a nearby fallen log. Dropping into a crouch, she slowly stalked towards it - eyes narrowing in focus.

It made no movement of noticing her as she approached, before she finally decided she was close enough and made her leap - easily catching it and killing it. Toads were far from her favorite prey - she preferred tearing into a mouse than the skin of a frog or toad but prey was prey. Picking it up, she turned to look towards her companions, wondering if they had also managed to catch their prey so far.

Badgermask attempted to catch a toad and succeeded, costing 5 stamina.

At Harriertalon's assent, the young apprentice gave an enthusiastic nod. But what Sablestrike said made him at this moment Snailpaw's new favorite cat. "A reward..." She echoed softly, before a flush of energy filled her from nose to tailtip. The black tomcat might as well have put the stars in the sky himself for all the awe he had inspired. She reminded herself to close her mouth, lest she catch flies instead of freshkill tonight. "I'll... I'll do my best!"

When the rest of her patrolmates broke away, Snailpaw took a deep breath and plodded carefully through a shallow patch of mud, listening so hard she thought her ears might fall off. She'd get at least something! A deep croak resounded from a nearby pool. Now that was one big frog. Was it too big for her? Honestly it looked like it could just as easily eat her as she could eat it. Unfortunately, she wasn't being quite sneaky enough for this old amphibian. And instead of fleeing, the thing rose up tall and puffed up, giving her a mean glare before leaping towards her with malicious intent. She took the hint and scampered off towards hopefully smaller prey.

Snailpaw tried to catch a frog; +2 success chance. She was unsuccessful. -5SP, SP: 55/60

Harriertalon couldn't help but smile at her clanmates excitement at the promise of a reward, watching Snailpaw eagerly search for prey. As the warrior was putting down her own catch in the... rather small pile, she watched as a rather large toad stood its ground against the apprentice, making Snailpaw turn tail. A smile broke out on the ebony furred molly. Adorable.

Her eyes scanned the others, Badgermask catching a frog and Sablestrike with a scrawny mouse. They could do better than this, surely! Ears perked, she turned her head, getting as low as she could. A rabbit!

Unfortunately, Harrietalon was not fast enough. It made her appreciate WindClans rabbit hunting skills a little more.

Harrietalon was unsuccessful. -5SP

Sablestrike deposited his catch before stalking off once more in search of more prey. The stygian warrior was determined to help their pile grow, and this time he would find something that would fill more than just a kit's stomach. A long drawn out croak sounded, and Sablestrike pounced toward the origin of the sound. The tom's paws landed, but not on the ground. His leap had very much been a guess, but now he couldn't just feel the toad's slimy body, he could see it. It had blended in well with the ground, but now that panic was setting in the toad began to struggle under the cat's weight. Sablestrike was quick to finish it, padding back to the patrol's prey pile with a look of pride.
