A Shadowclan Hunting Patrol (open)

"Shatteredpaw, come on. Let's go hunting. Any other apprentice who wants to come along can join," Purred Frostwhisper as she poked her head into the apprentice's den. The white she-cat hadn't spent much time with her son lately and she wanted to do so on a patrol. Once she saw her only child pad out of the den, Frostwhisper moved on to the warrior's den. "Anyone want to come on a hunting patrol with Shatteredpaw and I?" She called in.

Shatteredpaw stirred in his bed of moss as his mother called in from outside. Without saying anything, the shattered-looking furred tom stood up and briefly stretched before padding out of the Apprentice's Den and into camp. While his mother went to the warrior's den, Shatteredpaw padded outside of camp and waited by the entrance while the patrol gathered.

Mudfoot stirred from his nest, hearing a patrol was about to leave. "Mind if I tag along?" The handsome tom trotted out of the den over to Forstwhisper and Shatteredpaw.

"I don't mind at all," Frostwhisper responded. Something like sadness filled her eyes...or maybe regret. Mudfoot was a handsome, loyal Shadowclan warrior who even had a crush on Frostwhisper before. Why did the she-cat become mates with a rouge and have a child when she could've stayed true to her clan and be with Mudfoot? The look quickly faded away as Frostwhisper remembered Shatteredpaw, but a microscopic piece still hung in her gaze.

The tiny apprentice watched his mother, Frostwhisper, and another warrior, Mudfoot, from outside of camp. He could sense awkward vibes from the white she-cat and his frosty blue eyes glistened with curiosity. Shatteredpaw had seen Frostwhsiper act this way around Mudfoot before, and he wondered if it had something to do with their past.

Rainfire padded out of his den groggily, seeing the trio gathered he trilled and trotted up. Just in time to break the tension, purring he swatted at his friend and apprentice Shatteredpaw. "May I join as well?" He mewed in a deep voice.

"Why not?" He said cooly. The tom looked over towards Frostwhisper, seeing a hint of sadness and regret. Well, it was you who ha kits with a mate. All I ever wanted was you. He thought sadly but shook his fur. No. Focus on the patrol. "Where shall we head first?"

Frostwhisper nodded at Rainfire as he approached. "Hello, Rainfire," Frostwhisper said with her soft, quiet voice. She then turned to Mudfoot. "Maybe we should try to hunt near the Windclan border? I've heard that they were attacked by dogs. If that is true, then their prey most likely has been chased onto our territory."

Shatteredpaw let the faintest hint of a smile enter on his face when Rainfire joined in on the patrol. The apprentice had begun to think it would be boring, until then his friend and mentor came over. Rainfire is the best. He always seems to know what I am thinking, Shatteredpaw thought with a purr.

Rainfire nodded at Frostwhisper's comments, he glanced and saw Shatteredpaw's smile. As the patrol began to head out he stayed beside his friend, every few steps he flicked his tail at him. Purring he casually pawed at him, trying not to get caught acting like an apprentice. Shatteredpaw seems happier I'm here! I'm glad we're friends.

Mudfoot gave Frostwhisper a nod, watching Rainfire join the patrol. A hint of jealousy sparked inside him, but he pushed it aside, not wanting to ruin the patrol. "Ya, I think that'd be a great place to hunt. We just need to be careful they haven't sent any cats back to protect their territory from clan cats like us wanting to take advantage of it." He replied, always being cautious.

Before they had gone too far, Redpaw had sprinted out after them. "Hey, where are we going?" He meowed, glancing aside at Shatteredpaw and up at the bigger warriors.

"I agree, Mudfoot," Frostwhisper purred as the patrol started and left the camp. She decided to lead the way and headed toward the Windclan border. "But, I bet the dogs are still there so Windclan probably didn't send any cats back yet. We should be extra cautious near the border, but we probably shouldn't go onto their territory; we should keep an eye out for dogs, also. The other clans seem to all be having hard times and we aren't...it isn't going to be long before something bad happens to us. Let's hope it's not the dogs coming onto our territory." She smiled a beautiful smile at him, then continued on, ignoring Rainfire's playfulness with her son. When Redpaw came running after the group, Frostwhisper paused and looked at him. "We are going on a hunting patrol near Windclan's border. Want to come?" she asked.

Shatteredpaw returned Rainfire's childish acts with some of his own. Shatteredpaw jumped onto his mentor's back and lightly tugged on his ear, then tumbled off when Redpaw appeared. The runt didn't know Redpaw that well; in fact, Shatteredpaw didn't know anyone that well besides Frostwhisper and Rainfire. Not only that, but Shatteredpaw hadn't even spoken yet, which lead others to believe he was mute. He gave Redpaw a blank, expressionless stare with frosty blue eyes and straightened up.

Rainfire gave a low growl and stumbled when his apprentice clung to his ginger and black pelt, he staggered sideways. The young warrior tried crowhopping to get him off, but to no avail. He was considering rolling over with him on his back when Redpaw appeared. Then the weight lifted and beside him stood a proper apprentice, not the same playful cat several moments ago. Fluffing his patchy fur he twitched his whiskers to hold back a mrrow of laughter, his amber eyes were gleaming in amusement. Oh Shatteredpaw, still don't like the other cats hmm?
When Frostwhisper announced the plan he nodded in respect, "Sounds very good, shall we continue?" He mewed like a warrior, not a mousebrained apprentice.

Mudfoot gave a nod towards Frostwhisper and then to Rainfire. The tom started off, and waited till Frostwhisper was next to him. "You have a wonderful son by the way." He whispered.
