Something Warm [open]

Since the loss of their mother, Bracken and Thorn had made their home in the abandoned barn. The two had made makeshift nests out of straw and moss they had found just outside their roost. Despite being motherless, Thorn and Bracken were not too skinny, the barn had a good supply of mice and other small rodents, ones that were stupid enough to be actually caught by them. The barn suited them just fine.

Newleaf has brought warm weather and late rises, and it was almost sun high when the silver she-cat awoke. Thorn yawned loudly, as she shook herself out of her morning daze. Cautiously, she stepped out her nest and onto the wooden rafters of the barn, that squeaked under her weight. Her amber eyes slid over her surroundings and eventually landing on the pale form of her brother. She smiled fondly. “Get up lazy bones!” she snapped, her usual snappy temperament taking over.

Bracken awake with a start, his sisters mews waking him from the pleasant dream he was having. He blinked the sleep from his eyes and stretched, clenching and unclenching his paws. The filtered sunlight tjat was sifting through the barn brought promises of another amazing day. He let out a small purr and looked towards his sister.
“So, what’s on the agenda today?”

Thorn shrugged. She still felt tired. She yawned again, eyes crinkling. Her bones aches dully, and she stretched herself out, humming in satisfaction at the crack of her stiff joints. “Are you hungry?” blurted Thorn, becoming aware of her own growling stomach. “We should hunt, I’ll wait for you outside.”

The she-cat stood up, tail swishing softly as she leaped from hay bale to hay bale to the barn floor. Once at the floor she glanced behind her to make sure Bracken was following. “Come on, I haven’t got all day.”
