The Hunt [Closed]

Dappleshine hissed at the badger, doing everything she could to keep it's attention turned this way, rather than seeing the much smaller target of Honeypaw at it's back. She reared onto her hind legs, momentarily flashing her soft belly before bringing her front paws crashing down onto the badger's head, feeling her legs shake with the effort of the collision. That should make it falter even more.

Seeing Berrycloud fighting beside her filled the younger she-cat with courage, and now that the beast was pinned, she found herself nose-to-nose with the thing. The elders were right, they really did stink to high Silverpelt. With her grey nose wrinkled in disgust, Egretpaw slashed at the badger's round ears with little mercy. It should surely have something to remember her by after all this!

The large warrior, who was keeping his claws on the flesh despite the struggles of the big predator, took a glimpse of Egretpaw facing it once again, slashing the badger with bravery. The golden tom smirked, proud to see that Riverclan apprentices were as brave as he used to be in the past. Closing around the badger's scruff, Berrycloud tightened his grip, holding a little longer on top of the predator. Soon... he and his sister will free Riverclan from these parasites.

Berrycloud keeps using leap-and-hold, dealing 13 damage.

Finally, the smaller badger was able to buck the golden tabby off of its back, though it was only done with much struggle. Now left panting, it looked on at the older tom with disgust. The moment he caught his breath, he was going to tear this cat to the ground... Just a few more moments...

The larger badger seemed to be having a slightly larger problem with more cats swarming it, but nonetheless, it had managed to free itself and now had the perfect opportunity to strike. Spotting a younger cat in the back, it launched itself to the side, scraping its claws into her side and tossing her to the side. The maneuver had taken such little effort that it now found itself able to turn around and attack once more. The same grey tabby that had pinned it to the ground was closest... The perfect chance to get some revenge. Taking a large, hefty paw to the she-cat's side, it batted her about and turned to face the remaining RiverClanners, heart beating erratically.

Wasppaw has been KOed by Badger #1.

Her heart was racing as the badger turned around, and before Ivybrook could do anything about it... It slammed its giant paw into Wasppaw's side, knocking her to the side and putting her out of the battle. Just as she had feared, her Clanmates were suffering because she was unable to protect them. What would Torrentstar think when they had to drag Wasppaw back to camp half-conscious? Surely she was in for a talk- it was her fault that the badger had the chance to get to the apprentice, and therefore it was her fault that she was now unable to fight. In the midst of her panicked thoughts, Ivybrook hadn't even realized that the badger had turned back around, aiming the same bloodied paw at her own side. Its claws tore into the flesh on her side, exposing her muscles and sending a steady stream of blood flowing down her side. Unable to even let out a yowl of pain, Ivybrook simply sunk to her paws and stared as blood dripped onto the dirt below her. The stinging in her side only got worse as the seconds ticked by, and she could only imagine how Wasppaw had felt... She was subjecting her Clanmates to something that could leave them torn up and tattered, just like she was now. And for that, she knew she deserved what the badger had given her.

"Wasppaw!" Honeypaw cried as the giant badger they were fighting took its attention off of the cats and sent her adopted sibling crashing to the ground with a single well-placed blow, before turning and doing much the same with Ivybrook - but she at least looked to be still standing as she struggled to gather herself and push herself back onto her paws... Then, the black and white creature turns its gaze to the cats that still surrounded it. Her tail lashed as she took a nervous step backwards, gaze flickering between Wasppaw and Ivybrook...Then back on the badger.

This was why they were doing this - to prevent other cats from getting hurt. She couldn't let her fear get the best of her, not when there were more lives on the line if the badgers got to live. Her claws sank into the ground, rooting her to the spot as she took in a deep breath to steady herself. Then, she charged forwards with a growl as she decided to use her small form to her advantage, crouching down and slipping underneath the beast to rake her claws down it belly before she scampered out, praying that it wouldn't turn its attention to her. She could do this, she had to protect RiverClan.

"No!!" Dappleshine yowled as the badger turned to swipe an oversized paw at Wasppaw. The hit connected, and Wasppaw was sent sprawling from the battle before even getting a chance. After a moment of searching desperately for a sign of life, Dappleshine turned back to the lumbering creature with a fury-filled hiss. It would pay for that. Grabbing onto the badger's shoulder fur, she clambered on top of it where Ivybrook had been moments before, and extended her claws through it's thick pelt. Grasping it tightly, she clawed furiously at it's back.

Dappleshine used Leap-and-Hold on Badger 1, dealing 11 damage and costing 10 stamina. Badger is held for 1 turn.

With a thump barely over the sounds of battle, Egretpaw heard Wasppaw get knocked away as if she were nothing more than a stray leaf. 'We need to get rid of them quickly.' With the fur on her spine standing on-end, she gripped the side of the beast with her front paws, slashing and kicking against its stomach with her back ones.

Unable to hold any longer and unde the struggles of the badger, the tom was shoved aside, hitting his head on the process as he rolled on the mud and grass. Berrycloud's world got dizzier in a matter of seconds but as soon as his eyes got fixed on the grey she-cat fighting by his side, he knew he could not fell into despair or else, Egretpaw would get hurt. Hissing and forcing his mind to stay focus, Berrycloud stood up on his hind legs to match the predator's side and slashed its face, returning him the favour. "Keep your eyes on me, filthy badger!"

Watching her Clanmates beside her gave Ivybrook an odd sense of bravery that somehow overcame the blame that she'd placed on herself. They, despite the fact that Wasppaw had been taken down just moments ago, still fought with the ferocity and valiancy of LionClan. Nodding in thanks to Dappleshine for holding down the fort while she was out of the game, she gripped the ground beneath her with unsheathed claws. Charging at the badger, she rolled onto her back just as she reached her side, belly facing the sky. Realizing that, just like cats, the badger had a rather soft underbelly without much of the coarse fur on its back to protect it, she bad touch her unsheathed claws against the delicate skin, squinting her eyes as blood dripped onto her face. Unsure of how long Dappleshine might be able to hold the badger, Ivybrook scrambled to her paws quickly, causing her to be in front of the great creature. Her eyes met the black beady ones of the beast in front of her, and a sense of hatred filled her gut as she stared at it. This animal was trying to hurt her Clan, and she'd fight to the death to stop it. It was easy to tell that the badger was on it's last limb- its legs were shaking, and it was struggling to breathe. "Honeypaw, go!" If the apprentice could manage it, she could deal the final blow to the snarling creature.

Ivybrook used Half-Turn Belly Rake, dealing -16 Health Points and using -20 Stamina Points.

Finally, the grizzled badger was able to shrug off the golden tom that had been holding him down. Before he had much time to react, he was back on his paws, and blows were coming from two places. One smaller cat was underneath him, scratching at his belly, and there was another clawing at his face. A great snarl erupted as he backed away from both of them, aiming a bite at the larger tom in front. A grey flash moved in front of him, though, and he made contact with something else... What was going on?!

Badger #2 used Iron Bite on ???, dealing -30 Health Points and using -20 Stamina Points.
(Badger #2 intended to use Iron Bite on Berrycloud, but in my next post Ivybrook will be using Blocking Leap to take the damage instead. No damage is currently given to Berrycloud, and Ivybrook will receive the damage in my next post.)

Honeypaw watched with wide eyes as both Dappleshine and Ivybrook danced around the beast with the grace of a true RiverClan warrior, blows being traded as Ivybrook even manged to slide beneath the badger's belly and slice at it. The apprentice could tell that the beast was shaking, energy giving out but she remained rooted in place...Until the deputy's voice shook her out of her slump. Her gaze snapped over to the deputy, tail lashing in surprise and confusion as a single look caused her to realize what Ivybrook wanted from her.

What?

Her eyes widen as her ears slicked back, staring at the badger as she struggled to come up with a way to take it down. She was only an apprentice, certainly Dappleshine would be better suited for this - she was already on the badger! But...Dappleshine was helping take its attention away - the badger was barely aware of her if at all. This was the chance. With a soft hiss, she crouched and pushed off from the ground, throwing herself onto the back of the creature near where Dappleshine was clinging. Being suddenly on a moving surface startled Honeypaw as her claws dug into the fur, trying to find a grip wherever she could as she clambered up toward the creature's head.

She paused once she reached what she assumed to be the creature's neck - it looked almost impossible to tell with how big and bulky the badger was to figure out where the body ended and the head began. She swallowed her fear as she unsheathed her claws fully...And with a terrified yowl, slashed widely at the back of the creature's neck, hoping to cut something important enough to put the badger down. Her claws pulled out clumps of the black and white fur as blood was sent spraying, shivering at how gruesome her actions was but she didn't stop - she couldn't stop until her mentor and sister-figure was alright - until the badger couldn't hurt anybody else like it did Wasppaw.

Ivybrook's cry was followed by a small figure landing in front of her where she clung to the badger's back. Her claws sank deeper into the badger's back as Honeypaw made her way up to the beast's neck and lashed out with sharp claws, scoring further into it's flesh with every swipe. Soon, the beast collapsed underneath the two of them, and Dappleshine nodded to the young she-cat. "Well done, Honeypaw, way to use your balance! Now let's take down this other one, shall we?" She mewed as she turned, leaping with outstretched claws towards the smaller badger.

The tom could see its jaws over is head just a second ago. For a second... he felt that acrid smell of death in the badger's jaws just in front his face and he closed his eyes, remembering the fangs of the pack of dogs who scared Eaglebrook away and took away Sparkfrost's memories. But when he opened again, the fangs weren't sinking on his flesh... but in a smaller grey she-cat he knew very well.

"Ivybrook..." That word came up from his mouth as a surprised whisper, his brain still trying to process what had just happened. And when he realized the facts, a burning rage blinded his mind.

Like a bear, the warrior stood up on his hind legs, hissing furiously just before smashing the predator's head to the ground with his both paws, trying to free his only remaining littermate. He could not lose her.... he simply just couldn't.

Without realizing it, Ivybrook was holding her breath the entire stretch of time that it took for Honeypaw to take the first badger's life. Blood pulsing, she breathed out when Honeypaw was done. "Speak to me when we're done here, Honeypaw!" Ivybrook called out to her apprentice before she got a chance to go for the other badger. Taking just a moment to slow her breathing, the she-cat surveyed what was going on. Her brother had been tossed off of the smaller badger's back, but Egretpaw and himself seemed to be handling it decently. Shifting her gaze from the older apprentice to the badger, her eyes widened with fright. Berrycloud hadn't realized it quite yet, butthe badger had its jaws parted, and it was aiming straight for him. She didn't even think as she moved.

What followed was a complete blur.

Ivybrook could feel the fangs piercing her skin and ripping flesh and muscle, and the only thing she could think of was if Berrycloud was alright. If she was stuck between the powerful, crushing jaws of the badger, then she'd be at his side in an instance. But she was stuck, and the badger was biting down. Hard. Blood was pouring into his mouth and the RiverClan deputy couldn't even manage the smallest sound. Stars dotted her vision as she collapsed to the ground, a loud thud ringing out in the otherwise silence. After such a damaging attack, Ivybrook wasn't able to get up. She wasn't able to call out to her Clanmates. Her vision was fading and her ears were ringing, and she was hardly able to stay conscious. Would they be okay?

Ivybrook used Blocking Leap, taking -30 Health Points and using -30 Stamina Points. Berrycloud receives no damage.
