The Hunt [Closed]

The time had come.

Ivybrook had been busy scheduling a patrol to go out and track and drive out pair of badgers that had been lingering a little too close to camp, and now the time had come for them to head out. Berrycloud, Dappleshine, Honeypaw, Wasppaw, and Egretpaw were all included in the group she'd put together to venture out and fight the beasts- hopefully, they'd manage to rid RiverClan of the threat without anyone getting seriously hurt. If they did, then Ivybrook would be to blame. She was putting her Clanmates lives in danger- What was wrong with her?

But then again, letting the badgers mosey around in RiverClan's territory would be worse, would it not?

Shaking her head, she padded to the entrance of camp where her selected Clanmates were gathered. Nodding her head in greeting to them, she flicked her tail towards the entrance and began walking. "As far as we know, there are only two badgers that we need to worry about. Egretpaw, Honeypaw, and Wasppaw- I would like all of you to take note of the way that Dappleshine, Berrycloud, and myself fight- It will help you with your training tremendously." As she crossed the stream that surrounded camp, she looked back to make sure that everyone was listening. "Once we've got the badgers within out sights, we'll attack. Dappleshine or Berrycloud and I will try to pin them down, while everyone else can try to get in as many hits as possible. Everyone got that?" She hated the way giving orders felt on her tongue, but it was the only way to make sure that everything was done as safely and efficiently as possible. The foul smell of badger was right under her nose, and the RiverClan she-cat's paws were itching to go hunt them down.

Honeypaw shifted on her paws, clearly nervous about what was to transpire shortly. She had never seen a badger, much less ever fight one! In fact, she hadn't seen a predator at all. She knew her battle training, Ivybrook had taught her how to protect herself but...Her ear twitched as her mentor spoke up, leaping to her paws as she scrambled to the deputy's side and followed her out of the camp, aware of her other chosen Clanmates followed after her. She felt relived by their numbers, six verues two was a good odd...Of course she had no idea how big a badger was and she could recall stories about them towering over cats of all sizes...

She shook her head, listening to as Ivybrook gave out orders, lining out how she wanted this encounter to go. "Yes, Ivybrook!" Honeypaw chirped, relieved that the three warriors would be taking the badgers' attention. Her tail swished as she glanced at the other five cats...Before her gaze focused on Wasppaw. She didn't know the apprentice all that well despite being adopted sisters...She was half certain that the apprentice was avoiding her, but she wasn't sure why. So, she took the opportunity to fall back to pad next to Wasppaw, giving the older apprentice a soft smile. "You excited to fight some badgers?" she asked with a curious tilt of her head. She herself wasn't...Very excited but she was sure that her other siblings would be jealous by the fact that she got to fight side by side with Ivybrook.

Dappleshine had heard the rumors about two badgers close to camp, a little too close for comfort. The she-cat had already resigned herself to at least one new scar when Ivybrook approached her about joining the patrol, but she was quick to agree. At this point she had seen a fair share of battles with other creatures, including dogs, but badgers were one she had never seen in action - only heard tales of their ferocity. As Ivybrook instructed the apprentices, she gave a small nod, putting on a confident expression as they prepared to head out. It wasn't long after leaving the camp that the stench of fresh badger wafted across her nose, and her fur prickled slightly. They were way too close, far closer than they had been to this point. It was good that the patrol hadn't been put off any longer - or they may have woken to badgers in their camp.

She kept a sharp lookout for the beasts, not entirely sure of what she was looking for. How big were badgers anyway?

Though she'd never seen a badger in the flesh before, Egretpaw had a good idea on what they could do. Stories overheard and coerced from warrior and elders told her they were huge, stocky beasts with a mean mug. Not to mention their stench was unmistakable. 'Like if something squashed on the Thunderpath got up and started walking around again.' Though the young she-cat was confident they could work together to beat the thing into a pulp, she could only hope that these things were smaller and weaker than a dog - she'd seen what had happened to Lightstep. He had been a good warrior.

The grey tabby padded swiftly besides the three warriors, each like a sibling to her through various circumstances. However, a brief thought made her fall back a step. She wasn't quite to the same level as them, not nearly. 'Ivybrook and Berrycloud are older. It only makes sense. And Dappleshine is smarter than me and Magpiepaw combined, definitely.' Her heart held a bit of frost when she thought of herself as being left behind, but she shook out her fur. 'Both me and Magpiepaw can be warriors sooner if we just train together! We'll catch up!' He'd get over his sickness soon if she had anything to say about it.

"Got it!"

The tom constantly looked over his shoulder to the young apprentices, making sure they did not wander too far away from the safe range. He followed his sister closely, giving her a few supporting looks. Sure, she was a deputy from one day to another but that did not mean they stopped being siblings. He was not jealous of her being chosen over him. All he cared about now was her safety and mental health now she was the only family remaining of him since Jaystar's death and Sparkfrost's leaving. Most of all, Berrycloud wondered if the weight of being second-in-command was a heavy one for Ivybrook and if it was, then he somehow could support her.

As they left the camp, the grey she-cat gave some practical instructions regarding how they would proceed. The tom nodded in agreement. In that way, apprentices wouldn't get major hits from the badgers while the older warriors like him and Dappleshine could deal with the worse. It wouldn't be the first time and definitely not the last one. "I can surely pin one of those beasts in no time. Don't you worry sis, I got your back." He purred with glimmering green eyes.

Wasppaw only glared at Ivybrook when the silver she-cat told her and the other apprentices to watch the warriors. She was older than Dappleshine, and for some minnow-brained reason everyone and their leader seemed to be convinced otherwise.

It wasn't fair.

On top of it, now Honeypaw was over here trying to make small talk. Wasppaw didn't even bother responding to her mentor's daughter, simply grunting and looking the other way with a flick of her tail.

Alrrrrrighty, folks! Time to get it moving! There are two badgers, each with stats of 120/320 HP/SP. The goal is to at least drive them out, but if we can KO them, that would be ideal! I want everyone to be able to use the system to fill out a battle requirement, so I'm implementing a time limit of 48 Hours to get your post in. We will maintain our current posting order of Maple, Honey Badger, Mosspelt, Night, Jay Bird, and Kari. You'll have two days to post after the person before you, and if you don't post within the time limit then your cat will be considered KOed. I'll be RPing both badgers, and be sure to make it clear which badger you are attacking- 1 or 2. I'll ping you on discord to let you know when it is your turn to post~

Once the apprentices had at least acknowledged what she had said (all but Wasppaw, but she was sure that she'd heard her instructions) Ivybrook nodded her head. She managed a faint smile for Berrycloud, appreciative of the support that he'd always given her. "Thank you, Berrycloud." She said a little quieter, touching her tail to his back lovingly. She wished that the two of them had more time together, but they both had duties to the Clan that seemed to constantly pull them apart. Making a mental note to set up a patrol with just the two of them sometime in the near future, Ivybrook padded towards the smell of the beasts. She knew that they were downwind from them, so she was thankful for the advantage that it gave them. Crouching down, she signaled with her tail for all of the others to do the same. Rocking back and forth on her haunches, she flickered her eyes between the two badgers. "On my signal, Berrycloud and I will try and pin them down so that everyone else can get their hits in. If one of us goes down, try and help each other out, take whomever it is to the side so that they don't get hurt more. If we're smart about this, we'll have them down in no time." Her tone remained below a whisper as to not alert the badgers that were mere fox-lengths away. Narrowing her eyes, she looked at the larger badger with disdain. "Go!" She was mid-leap as the command left her maw, and she landed on the back of the larger badger, unsheathed claws digging through its thick pelt. A ferocious snarl erupted from the black and white creature, but Ivybrook held on while she waited for her Clanmates to attack.

Ivybrook used Leap-and-Hold on Badger 1, dealing -14 Health Points and using -10 Stamina Points. Badger 1 is pinned for 1 turn.

Honeypaw's smiled faltered at Wasppaw's rather...Cold dismissal but she quickly tried to hide it as she heard her mentor speak up, gaze flickering toward Ivybrook. They were here? Already? Her ears slicked back as she carefully started to approach the deputy, eyes widening at the black, grey and white pelt of the two lumbering beasts. Then, it was time. With a yowl, Ivybrook had leaped into the fray, clinging to the back of the badger. She swallowed, gaze flickering toward the other beast...But decided that perhaps it was better to follow after her mentor. With a battle cry of her own, which was only slightly crackling with fear as she rammed into the badger with all of her might. She wasn't sure what she was expecting but it was like hitting a rock, barely stumbling the beast as she tried to recover from it. She wasn't fighting a cat, she couldn't use moves expecting certain reactions...She scrambled onto her paws, slicing at the beast's side as she quickly ran around it, determent to try to stick to its back to avoid its nasty front claws.

Dappleshine nodded silently at Ivybrook's instructions, preparing herself physically, and mentally, for the battle ahead. As they surged forward as a group, catching the badgers by surprise, she quickly took in their large, forboding appearance with a feeling of mild horror. These two lumbering creatures were in a whole different level than the eagles, and even the foxes, she had faced before, more akin to the dogs in terms of ferocity and danger, judging by the road the one let out as the deputy jumped forward, claws latching into it's pelt. A half heartbeat later, Dappleshine joined in on the far side of the badger from Honeypaw, pushing it further from the other one as she charged head-first at it.

Dappleshine used Run-and-Tackle on Badger 1, dealing 13 damage and costing 10 stamina. (Regular 10 + 3 for opponent not being focused on them)

Those few minutes of tracking felt agonizingly long, and though the scent was still faint for a while, the apprentice couldn't help but feel eyes watching her from the periphery. Was one of the badgers tracking them? No, that would be impossible. 'Great StarClan, I'm starting to act like him.'

There they were. With the group crouched and well-hidden from their targets, Egretpaw could get a good look at what they up against. She hadn't expected them to be wide like that. Then, Ivybrook leapt into battle, claws outstretched. With her deputy's order ringing in her ears she burst out of the reeds, slamming into the solid shoulders of the other badger. Hopefully someone was right behind her.

Egretpaw used Run-and-Tackle on Badger #2, dealing 6+3 damage (unfocused) and using 10 stamina.

Following right behind his sister's tail, the large tom crouched down, fixing his green eyes on one of the two badgers. There was no need for words between the two siblings for Berrycloud to know which one he was supposed to pin. Knowing his sister... the senior warrior knew which one to fight. When Ivybrook gave away the signal, the golden rushed forward, letting Egretpaw hit the beast first before leaping towards its back. Just like the deputy, and using his large size, the tom pinned the badger down, sinking his claw on its shoulders and biting one of its small ears. I won't let you hurt anyone else... not like those dogs did... He thought to himself while biting harder, tearing the flesh of the badger's ear.

Noticing that her Clan-mates had executed the attack perfectly, Ivybrook nodded and continued to dig into the badgers thick fur. Hanging onto its pelt was even more difficult as several of her Clan-mates slammed into the beasts side, knocking it to and fro as she strengthened her grip. When there was finally a moment where she could sink her claws deeper into the grumbling badger, she used her hind legs to shred fur and muscle the best she could without falling off. Making sure that there weren’t any cats nearby, she leaped off of the badger, unsheathed claws digging into the dirt below her.

Ivybrook continued to used Leap-and-Hold on Badger #1, dealing -14 Health Points and using -10 Stamina Points. Badger #1 is no longer pinned.

The cats seemed to have come from nowhere, their sharp claws piercing the backs of the lumbering black and white badgers. Great yelps of pain and anger could be heard coming from both of them as they took blow after blow, blood beginning to seep from their wounds. The larger badger was having a particularly bad time with a grey she-cat it just couldn’t seem to shake off- but when she finally left his back, it let out a great yowl and prepared to attack. The smaller badger had a larger cat on top of it, its golden tabby fur catching his eye as he tried in vain to shake him off.

Honeypaw was fighting, oh StarClan, she was fighting. She let out a shaky breath as she stared at where her mentor was clinging to the back of the badger...The bigger badger. She was fighting the bigger badger. She swallowed back her fear as her tail lashed, claws digging into the ground as she steadied herself. She could do this, she had been training how to fight for a while now and this was for the good of her Clan. Besides, she wasn't alone! She could see Dappleshine flanking the badger while Ivybrook leaped from the back of the badger to join them on the ground. She could do this...She reared back, slashing at the back of the giant creature as she begged StarClan for it to not turn around - that Ivybrook would manage to keep its attention.
