At last, a hunt! (Closed)

The sun shone brightly on newly emerging leaves. Featherheart revelled in the sight of new leaf being so soon. The snow was finally fading, and prey would soon be plentiful. He looked up at the scorched trunks of trees and the signs of new life around. It would also be the season of kits from what he had heard. Featherheart turned to look at the apprentices nearby. Any prey would be good, and he knew Bramblepaw and Marshpaw had been itching to get out of the camp. His gaze settled on Eaglepaw, who seemed to be in a bit of a grumpy mood, but a good hunt can fix that.

"Bramblepaw, Eaglepaw, Marshpaw. You should come on a hunting patrol with me." He called out in a cheerful tone. His green eyes bright with the eagerness of doing something for his clan and not needing a mentor to do it.


Marshpaw glanced up at Featherheart as his name was called. He stood and stretched his limbs, testing out his back leg and relieved to feel that it was in good enough shape to take his full weight. He padded up to Eaglepaw and tilted his head to the apprentice.
"That sounds good to me."

Bramblepaw glanced up from his meal, the thin mouse was hardly filling but it had been all he could grab from the pile that day, he nodded to Featherheart and pushed himself to his feet. The tabby tom padded over to the clan's newest Warrior with a grateful nod, he'd been languishing in camp for a couple days now and was eager to get some training in, how could he possibly kill Ivystar if he was never training.

As Bramblepaw nodded to him, Featherheart thought about things. He hadn't seen Robinsong in camp a lot. Indeed most cats seemed to have abandoned camp in favor of patrols. He certainly didn't fault them, but he wondered at how the apprentice's training had been coming along.

"Bramblepaw, would you like to pick the hunting location?" He offered. It couldn't hurt to let the apprentices pick. They'd probably comb the whole forest in an attempt to find more prey than the slim pickings that currently lay in the fresh kill pile.

Bramblepaw thought about the choice he'd been given, knowing it was likely a test, the young tom's face screwed up in concentration as he ran over the possible locations in his mind. Snakerocks was a bad idea, even in leafbare when the cold weather made the adders sluggish it was an unnecessary risk, coming to a decision he turned to the older warrior, "There's a section of undergrowth just past the training hollow on the north side that has been pretty active with mice recently, I've also picked up scent trails of Squirrels and a vole or two nearby." He answered diligently, looking into Featherheart's eyes to try and make out any hint of whether or not he'd got it right.

Eaglepaw's ears perked immediately. A hunting patrol? With Marshpaw? He glanced over the rest of the cats in the patrol and decided it was decent. They were all good Thunderclan cats. The remnants of his sour mood seemed to melt away at the prospect. Hauling himself up to his paws, Eaglepaw went to stand next to Bramblepaw. His denmate seemed like a worthy friend and clanmate and for that, he respected him. Featherheart was alright as well, and Marshpaw was his kin. If it weren't for the fact, he probably would have wanted nothing to do with the Shadowclan born tom.

As the other apprentice was asked where he wanted to hunt, a respectable answer was given. Clearly well thought out. But, something else came to Eaglepaw's mind, "We could always try sunningrocks. I've heard there is plenty of prey as the seasons change." A low growl hinted its way into his words. He knew what he was saying. The large, dusty-brown and tabby colored tom glanced over at Featherheart with gleaming eyes. Of course, he expected refusal, but it was worth suggesting. The rocks were on their side of the river. Besides, fending off some fishbrains seemed like a good way to spend the day. If they caught some prey too, it would be a bonus.
