Rise of ApprenticeClan [patrol training woo]

Oakpaw rolled his yellow eyes, "Thanks for waiting for all of us." His mew was rough, he flicked his tail irritably. I'll just stay at the back, let these mousebrains make all the mistakes. His whiskers twitched and he curled his tail, he liked the idea of the others failing miserably. He glanced sideways to see his younger brother, his disciple of sorts, following close as usual. He could care less about patrolling, he'd snuck out plenty of times in his kit hood. So he let his mind wander to his glorious future, pleased his brother had decided to help him achieve his dreams.

Sandfeather nodded.
"Correct, Snowpaw," Sandfeather smiled. She looked at Breezestar.
"Though Thinderclan would mostly attempt to back their enemies into a forest where they get trapped. But for us Skyclan cats? We have advantage. We appreciate trees, and we can even run over moors with out powerful legs..." Sandfeather mused quietly and her gaze traveled back to Breezestar, hoping she said that right.

Pinepaw nodded and followed along, eyeing Oakpaw. He never really understood why the other tom acted like he did, but he assumed it would be a bad idea to ask him about it. The chocolate tabby glanced at Snowpaw and then Sandfeather. "I hope Windclan realizes soon that they aren't built for our territory," he huffed. He looked up to the trees, hoping to see a bird or maybe even a squirrel. The apprentice wanted to taste things from the trees, not whatever came out of the water.

Breezestar flicked his ear at his apprentice, but said nothing, simply smiling and nodding at the words of Snowpaw and the young warrior after her. "That's right - although I'd rather we stay in the trees than run in the moors," he said with a small hint of amusement. "The difference is though that WindClan have great endurance. They can run across their lands from dawn until dusk, but tree-climbing, that takes a different kind of strength." He looked over Pinepaw, quietly in agreement with the apprentice. WindClan didn't belong in SkyClan territory among the squirrels and birds any more than they belonged in RiverClan struggling to scoop out a fish. It was out of nature, out of StarClan's favor.

He lead the clan out to a clearing that seemed well enough with trees that almost seemed to scrape the clouds, with thick, rough bark. "It's different running across hills. In climbing, you have to move completely upward, and carry your entire weight along with you." He meowed. Once all the apprentices settled, he moved to set an example. "And that's what we'll be learning today."

The leader walked up to a thick pine, leaning back and bunching his muscles together. For a moment, he could remember all those moons ago, when he'd been among others - Silentstar teaching them the same lessons. "The key is to reach up with your front paws, use your claws if you need too. Kick off with your hind-legs and pull yourself up. Use your momentum to keep yourself going up further."

Breezestar readied himself, staring at the first branch of the tree, several fox-lengths up, tall enough to give them a good example. In his head, he counted to three before taking off in a flash. With one powerful leap, he sprang into the air, gripping onto the bark and pushed off with is back legs half an instant later. It was over in a matter of seconds, and one might have thought he practically had flown up into the air as he now balanced carefully on the thin wood.

"Now everyone find a tree. Try it out for yourselves!" He yelled out with a grin, "Sandfeather, Mapledrop, you go ahead too if you'd like - nothing wrong with a little practice."

Sandfeather nodded and bunched her muscles as she launched herself gracefully into the tree beside Breezestar.

Oakpaw flicked his tail for his brother Fallenpaw to follow, murmuring, "Don't worry I've done this plenty of times you won't get hurt." He mewed as he picked out an Oak tree, How strong it is! Just like me! He wiggled his rump, and flew up the tree as gracefully as he could. Sitting on a lower branch he awaited his small brother. His yellow eyes peering at Sandfeather from the leaves, She's looking at me like I've murdered someone. Not good.

Fallenpaw nodded. He leapt up the tree and hooked his claws into the bark, clawing his way up and trying to look exactly like his brother. He smiled when he got up next to his brother. "Hey I did it!" He purred his green gaze searching for his twin sisters light ginger pelt.

Rosepaw turned her nose up at her brother and climbed a particularly large tree. Her claws hooked into the bark and she clawed her way up, her muscles and every part of her body falling into place.

Snowpaw nodded and started to climb up a tree next to her mentor. She dug her claws into the next branch, then leaped onto it. She repeated and saw she was doing good.

Pinepaw glanced around for a vacant tree, passing up a possibly unclimbable birch tree for a maple. He hooked his claws into the bark, nearly throwing himself up onto the first branch and into a measly jump to the second only slightly above. He'd hit the branch rather forcefully, winding him and surely causing a bruise to form.

He hoped no one saw that.

Nettlepaw who the others waited for so patiently, after listening to Snowpaw's ever-so-quick explanation and Breezestar's ever-so-long monologue (not my words, Nettlepaw's), went to climb up an ashy gray tree. She shook her pelt and her tail, thought about what she wanted to do, and, well... Let Deerflight's hereditary instincts take over. After a few initial slips, she was halfway up the tree before she knew it. Satisfied, she settled down onto a thick branch on which there still lingered a few russet leaves and waited for further instructions.

After listening to the instructions carefully, Cottonpaw followed her sister's example, bunching up her body like a spring before letting loose. She hooked onto the tree bark with her claws, having hit the trunk a fox-length or two under the branch where Rosepaw was. She let out a frustrated mew, and, then adopting a determined look on her face, hoisted herself up the rest of the way and onto the branch next to her littermate.

After listening to what Breezestar had to say, Whitepaw looked at the trees around her and picked the one which looked the sturdiest. She bunched up her body and sprung onto the nearest branch.

Mapledrop purred at the apprentices and then, padded over to a big oak tree. She crouched and then sprung upwards, clawing her way up the tree gracefully.

Breezestar watched happily as all of them scrambled up the trees, some very fluently, others struggling more than most, but all were perfectly fine to him. In his eyes, they all were doing well. For many, it was their first patrol, and he only made a mental note on whom he should keep an eye on. "Alright, stay in the trees everyone. We're headed north!" He called, making the first leap to another branch, soaring through the air. "See if you can find any prey on the way. Birds and squirrels should be in good number up here." Especially with the WindClan cats prowling the grounds.

Nettlepaw leapt from branch to branch. This was fun! However, on the third branch she got too overconfident and slammed headfirst into the trunk of a big beech tree, falling onto the ground below. "Ouch," she complained. Then she clambered back up a tree and moved along, more carefully this time, following the leader.
