Cloudjumper chased after a rabbit, closing in on the creature with the speed that was innate to her Windclan heritage with ease. Only, it seemed, she had not been the only one thinking of making a meal out of the creature. So focused on her prey, Cloudjumper didn't notice the hawk diving until sharp talons raked down her back. With an outraged hiss, the calico warrior twisted, leaping and burying her claws in feathers that were a mix of brown and white.
Of course the day's hunting would be interrupted... But a hawk would be a nice addition to the fresh kill pile too, since it had so graciously decided to make itself a target.
Hawk used Swoop for -15 ep, dealing -10 damage. Cloudjumper used Leap and Hold for -15 ep, dealing -7 damage. Hawk is pinned one turn.
Cloudjumper 40 / 40 hp (40 - 10) 95 / 110 ep (110 - 15)
It was great being in the same den with Leopardwind again.
Laurelriver saw how close the black tom was with Cloudjumper - it made sense, since they both were very fast learners and therefore had a lot in common - so she needed to work even harder to make up ground. She wanted to catch up to Leopardwind, look at each other like equals. That's probably what Sootstorm had been getting at when she asked him about love - though he really could have chosen a better way of explaining it to her.
Laurelriver had been searching for a rabbit to catch when she heard hissing and screeching behind her. Turning to see Cloudjumper pinning a hawk down to the ground, Laurelriver ran towards them, before sinking her teeth into the large bird's wings.
Laurelriver used Bite on Hawk, dealing 8 damage and costing 5 EP.

It felt nice to have Laurelriver in the same den as him again. Leopardwind personaly hated her name; river, after the awful RiverClan? But perhaps Father had meant something else when he named Laurelriver after the rushing body of water. Something like... a powerful force? Perhaps... though when he looked at the calico, the words powerful weren't exactly the first to come to mind.
But it didn't matter that much, no. He had the she-cat to train with again, as they would when they were apprentices, and she never seemed to find his presence annoying as his siblings would. She seemed to like it, even, and why would he dislike being appreciated? Today's patrol was a pleasant one; both Cloudjumper and Laurelriver was here, two cats he trusted and knew would uphold the Warrior Code at all costs. They were good warriors to be around, the black tom concluded to himself.
As the screech rang through the crisp air, Leopardwind's attention snapped instantly to the fight. Well, that was no good. While he was confident Cloudjumper was more than capable to defeating a hawk on her own, he had no intention of letting her get hurt in the process. Injuries were a drain on the Clan's supplies, so it was best to avoid them if possible. The warrior darted forward, right behind Laurelriver, and swiftly darted to the bird's other wing to deliver the same bite as his patrolmate had. This would make a good catch, he was sure.
Leopardwind used Bite, dealing 11dmg at the cost of 5EP Surprise attack is in effect, dealing an additional 3dmg
It wasn't long before she had backup, and the bird screeched in anger and pain as what it had thought would be an easy fight turned into three cats tearing it apart. It would be the last mistake the silly bird would ever make, if Cloudjumper had a say. She'd lost her grip on holding the bird to the ground, but the damage had been done, and she lashed out with her claws quickly. The bird's struggling grew weak, but it was still stubbornly clinging to life.
Cloudjumper used Claw for -5 ep, dealing -10 damage.
With Leopardwind joining in, the hawk had no chance. As the hawk seemed weak enough to kill, Laurelriver moved in to deal the killing blow, taking its life with one bite. "Nice job, everyone!" she mewed, grinning at her teammates. "That hawk didn't stand a chance!"
Laurelriver used Bite on Hawk, dealing 8 damage and costing 5 stamina. Hawk is dead.

The hawk was killed promptly, leaving behind a large piece of fresh-kill that could surely feed many cats and many feathers to line the queens and elders' nests. Leopardwind gave Laurelriver, who had done the killing bite, a proud nod before brushing past her to stand beside Cloudjumper. His friend was injured, a single wound where the bird's talons had pierced skin. He gave it an experimental lick, eyes trained on Cloudjumper to observe her reaction. He was no medicine cat, but even to him it seemed obvious that the patrol couldn't continue with an injured warrior in their ranks. Even if the wound were not that bad, he had heard plenty about untreated scratches turning into fatal infections, and there was no way he'd let that sort of fate befall the she-cat.
"Are you alright? Able to walk well?" He asked, the words little more than pleasantries. Regardless of what the calico had to say, she was going to be marched right back to Camp to see Hemlockfox. Leopardwind turned to Laurelriver, as if to ask the she-cat help back him up on his next decision. "Come on, it's best that we return to Camp so that you can have that wound seen to. Besides, the hawk alone would be enough to feed plenty of cats, so I'd say our job here is done." If Cloudjumper wasn't able to walk well on her own, he'd assist her, and Laurelriver could bring the hawk back with them. Obviously, it didn't matter who it was that assisted Cloudjumper, but... well, he was just taking care here, so he was doing the harder task. There was nothing more to it.
Cloudjumper kept her claws on the hawk until it finally stopped moving, stepping back once it did so and glancing up at her clanmates. "Stupid bird... Thanks, both of you." She mewed, "You're not hurt?" She asked both of them, green eyes sweeping over both Laurelriver and Leopardwind in concern.
To the tom, she began to shrug, then grimaced slightly. "I'll be alright, I think. Stings more than I'd like, but I should be good to walk if I take it slow. I think." Of course, if Leopardwind offered to help, she wouldn't say no either. And she certainly wasn't going to argue about staying out rather than going to see Hemlockfox. Stars knew she'd have Leopardwind and Laurelriver on her tail if she tried. "Can't say that's how I like to do my hunting, but maybe some of those feathers would be good for the nursery." As an apology gift for when Nectarflower entered queen move when she saw the state her daughter's pelt was in, probably.
As Laurelriver saw Leopardwind move to Cloudjumper's side and lick her wound, a feeling of... awkwardness took her over. They were even closer than she thought, and she thought she had seen something that she wasn't supposed to. They really seem like mates.
Cloudjumper's concerned question settled Laurelriver down, at least for a moment. "No, I'm not hurt," she said. She wasn't physically hurt from the hawk like Cloudjumper was. She was just... questioning things. She did see Leopardwind and Cloudjumper talking with each other before, the day of her warrior ceremony... how long had it been going for? Cloudjumper was a nice cat, yes, but she wondered why Leopardwind had looked at her back then. Perhaps it was just a kithood crush that faded? Maybe once they drifted in skill, they had drifted away? Perhaps because Laurelriver had been interacting with Falconpaw, Leopardwind was moving on.
Laurelriver had always loved the concept of romance, ever since she was a little kit. But now, she just found it tiring.

Good, so Cloudjumper was able to walk on her own. And it was probably a good idea to give the feathers to the nursery. Leopardwind would hate to have to explain to Nectarflower why on a patrol he had been on her daughter had been attacked by a hawk, and why neither he nor Laurelriver had a scratch on them. The black tom took a step away from Cloudjumper, as if to give her some space, and gestured for Laurelriver to carry the hawk. "I'll keep a watch out, then, just in case any other predators want to try their luck."
Laurelriver seemed to be contemplating something. There was no time now to inquire about it, and with Cloudjumper right here he wondered if it might be considered rude to even point it out. Later, he promised himself, he would find time to ask his friend about it.
