Even with shorter, lighter fur, the heat was miserable, and Swiftspirit didn't know how her darker-furred clanmates could stand it. The moors offered little relief as the two Windclanners hunted along the flower fields, and Swiftspirit was hoping they could get this over with sooner rather than later, if only so she could attempt to hide from the sun in the seldom-used dens back in camp.
Swiftspirit wasn't surprised that she'd been put on patrol with Shrikestorm again, though he didn't much care for her, she could respect that he was honest about it and would still put doing what needed to be done over petty nonsense. As such, their hunting had been relatively quiet so far, and Swiftspirit was happy to bury a hare for retrieval later as she continued to hunt among the flowers.
For a medium-furred cat like Shrikestorm, the heat was certainly oppressive. He had to keep shaking himself out of a heat-related stupor, needing to stay focused on hunting on the moors. It was tough, but he was a clan cat, and he would make it work.
It somehow made sense that he was hunting with Swiftspirit again. The two seemed to be bonded together like that, even if neither of them particularly trusted each other. Shrikestorm had made his feelings very clear, though it involved a surprisingly more civil discussion than he would've expected. He supposed that there were bound to be other cats outside the clans who weren't flea-bitten savages. Swiftspirit just happened to be one of them.
She'd noticed Shrikestorm was all but falling asleep on his paws, and once more Swiftspirit wondered how any cat could actually enjoy this sort of heat, because it sure wasn't Shrikestorm or herself. Even the prey seemed to not enjoy this, but they'd persist until they caught something else to bring back to camp. They had to do that much, at least.
Spotting a hare, Swiftspirit's paws led her closer because a sudden movement made her jerk her head to the side. An eawgle... And the bird's sharp gaze wasn't on the hare, she realized. No, it was aiming for Shrikestorm. They weren't exactly what anyone could consider friends, but he was a clanmate, and an honest one, at that.
Swiftspirit bounded towards her clanmate and the bird, claws unsheathed. Leaping forward, Swiftspirit slashed at the eagle, then followed that with a quick swipe of her claws before it could react once more. It had been so focused on Shrikestorm that it hadn't seen her coming, at least.
Eagle used Talon Strike on Shrikestorm for -10 sp, dealing -10 damage. Swiftspirit used Run and Tackle on Eagle for -10 sp, dealing -9+3 (12) damage. Swiftspirit used Swift Strike for -10 sp, dealing -4 damage.
It came from the sky: an irony considering his name. The eagle struck him on the side, slashing at him with its talons. Letting out a grunt of surprise and pain, Shrikestorm rolled to the left as Swiftspirit jumped at the eagle. Huh, another irony...
Shoulder stinging, he jumped back to his paws and ran full speed towards the battle. Swiftspirit had done a good job of distracting it, which gave him the opportunity to slam into it, sending it down hard to ground level.
Shrikestorm used Whirlwind Rush on Eagle, dealing 13 damage at 15 stamina.
Swiftspirit hissed as the eagle went after Shrikestorm again, claws slashing at the bird's exposed belly in retaliation. Shrikestorm was bleeding, though in a fight it wasn't like she could stop to check the damage. Either way, Swiftspirit was no medicine cat, and that would be Smallbean's duty to take care of injuries, regardless.
Hopefully they got this over with soon. An eagle wouldn't be a bad addition to the fresh kill pile... If they managed to kill it.

The eagle was definitely in a rough spot. It probably expected to grab one of them and be off, but Swiftspirit's quick retaliation nixed those plans. Now it had to take on two cats, and it was clearly not doing well. Neither cat was planning on letting up either. With the eagle in such a vulnerable state, Shrikestorm took the opportunity to bring his paws down hard on its head, slamming it hard into the ground. It wouldn't last much longer after this.
Shrikestorm used Upright Lock for -25 sp, dealing -14 damage.
Shrikestorm slammed his paws into the eagle with impressive force, and Swiftspirit wasted no time in slashing at it before it could try and attack again. It wasn't long before the eagle stopped struggling entirely. Swiftspirit glanced over at her clanmate, the hint of genuine concern on her features.
"Are you alright, Shrikestorm?" She asked. She glanced back to the eagle, "Might as well bring it back to camp."
Swiftspirit used Front Paw Strike on Eagle for -10 sp, dealing -9 damage.
Shrikestorm put his paws down right in front of the now-dead eagle, panting. His shoulder stung, and fighting the eagle had definitely taken something out of him. He was still standing though: no predator was going to take him down. "I'm fine," he panted out too Swiftspirit. He was worn, but not defeated. That was fine in his book. "Thank you," he finished, as much as it felt strange to thank a former outsider. She had helped him, though, so it was improper to not thank her for what she had done. "Yes, you're right. Let's take this back to camp. We shall eat well tonight."
