Subject: Cloudkit's Apprentice Ceremony Sat 1 Jun 2024 - 7:38
With her own litter now getting old enough Rapidfire was spending less and less time in the nursery. Nectarflower and herself had helped each other here and there with kitten things. She hoped that they could get to know each other even more soon perhaps when they did not have kittens crawling all over them.
Today- was one of Nectarflower's kits apprentice ceremony. The young deputy looked out over the clan clearing as she took her place atop the tallrock.
"Everyone, once again, please come out for another ceremony" she purred happily

At the deputy's call, Cloudkit was quick to settle in front of the tallrock, her short calico and white pelt groomed to within an inch of it's life. She was six moons old, and with several other kits becoming apprentices, it was only a matter of time until it was her turn. The kit had vowed to be ready for it, and when she'd spotted Rapidfire preparing to call a clan meeting, Cloudkit had hope that it would be for her this time.

Run Rabbit, Run
Creampaw padded over to join the crowd, tail held lazily above her head. She was finally an apprentice, and she had enjoyed laughing at her former denmates even more. The thought of one of them gaining a new name-- and thus gaining more power-- made her smile turn sour. Whatever, she'd still be better than all of them. A fancy new name wasn't going to mean anything.
Gold is in our blood
This had to be one of his siblings' ceremonies, it had to be. Leopardpaw watched Rapidfire carefully, trying to tell which kit she was looking for. Maybe it was Falconkit or Moldkit's turn to join him in the apprentice den. Or Redkit or Viperkit. It was time, surely?

Sitting down with the rest of the clan, Quickpaw looked around while she waited for the ceremony to begin. This was like the hundredth ceremony this moon, and honestly, she didn't know what to make of that. On one paw, she was excited to make new friends or to finally have more of her siblings join her as an apprentice. On the other, things were starting to get a bit repetitive, and she didn't do well with repetition. A bored Quickpaw was something nobody wanted. Was it weird that she could feel excited and bored at the same time? Probably, but she kinda enjoyed being a bit different.
Shaking her thoughts away, the young apprentice tried to figure out the kit of honor from the deputy's expression, but she couldn't draw anything notable. She inwardly pouted. She wished she could read minds so as not to tear her fur out waiting in suspense.
Once the kitten of the hour had appeared the ceremony continued. "Clanmates, Cloudkit has reached the age of apprentice and is ready for the journey ahead. Her mentor will be Spiderdance"

Finally, finally her name was called and she was an apprentice! Cloudpaw purred, bright green eyes turning to search for the cat that Rapidfire had named as her mentor. Spiderdance... One of the newer warriors, if she remembered correctly. Not someone she knew, but that would have to change of course now that he was her mentor.
"I feel like a pet store parrot, ever spouting words"

The lanky tom blinked at the sound of his name, Spiderdance suddenly perking up as he glanced down at the young apprentice below Tallrock. He was a mentor! He had an apprentice! So early? Did Rapidfire trust him that much? Well, there were tons of kits in the nursery, he was bound to get at least one of them!
He pranced over to Cloudpaw, a wide grin on his face as he excitedly touched noses with her. "Congratulations!" he chirped. "We'll have a lot of fun, I promise! We'll start training in the morning, but go ahead and celebrate with your friends and family, I don't wanna keep you too long."

Nectarflower gathered alongside her clanmates, green eyes glittering with a mixture of excitement and sadness. As always, it was thrilling for a kit to earn their apprentice name, but when that kit was hers, the joy came with a certain level of loss as well. Especially knowing her precious children may quickly become too busy for her. Cloudkit was eagerly waiting for Rapidfire to continue with whatever the clan had been summoned for, though, and Nectarflower was happy to see her daughter's pelt perfectly cleaned for the moment. It seemed the young she-cat suspected this ceremony to be her own, and it was confirmed when Rapidfire called Cloudkit forward.
Smiling, Nectarflower sat through the ceremony and was the first to cheer her young kit's new name. "Cloudpaw, Cloudpaw, Cloudpaw!" Purring loudly, she hurried to her daughter's side and nuzzled her affectionately. "I'm so happy for you darling!" Then, with a look towards Spiderdance, added, "And Spiderdance, you'll be a wonderful mentor, I'm sure." She smiled brightly. "You'll learn so many new things Cloudpaw - it'll be amazing."
