Sootstorm had managed to recover somewhat thanks to Hemlockfox's assistance, though he was still to keep his duties and trips outside of the medicine cat den to a minimum. He was not told exactly why he had collapsed, though he had a feeling Hemlockfox too was unsure of the exact reason. Hopefully, it would only be a one-off thing resulting from Leafbare's chill. But the weather was better now, warmer too, and greenery had begun sprouting across the moor. The start of a new season... and a new apprentice. Sootstorm leapt onto the Tallrock for the first time that moon, feeling the cool stone under his paws as he called out, "Let all cats old enough to run the moors gather around the Tallrock for a clan meeting!"

Spiderkit instantly perked up at the sound of Sootstorm's call, bounding over with excitement as if he had already heard his name called. It hadn't been, but it would be!... Maybe... Probably.
He was counting the days until he earned his apprenticeship, eager to run out of camp the moment he was allowed to. Camp was small and cramped and boring! Outside was new and exciting and had space! He desperately wanted to see what it had in store.
He joined the growing crowd, deftly weaseling his way to the front and locking his wide blue eyes on Sootstorm. Today was the day, he knew it! He also thought yesterday was the day, and the day before that, but he felt he had luck on his side this time.

It wasn't long before the kit in question joined the crowd. Sootstorm couldn't help but smile at Spiderkit's obvious excitement. It was precious, and a welcome change of mood from recent events. "Spiderkit, please step forward." Sootstorm gave the kit a warm smile. "Spiderkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Spiderpaw. Your mentor will be Cloudypetal." Cloudypetal was doing a wonderful job with Cricketpaw, and he was sure that she would do the same for Spiderpaw.

The kitten's massive ears perked up at the sound of his name, a huge grin spreading across his face. He was right! It was his turn! He was nearly vibrating with excitement as the deputy called him forward, Spiderkit bouncing forward with his head and tail held high.
Spiderkit's eyes practically glimmered as he was bestowed his name. He was Spiderpaw now! He wondered what he would do first! Explore the territory? Learn to hunt? Playfight with the other apprentices? He could barely contain himself as he scanned the crowd of cats for his new mentor, quickly finding the dilute tortie among the others.
Spiderpaw hastily trotted over, only just slowing down at the last minute as to not crash into the she-cat. "Hey!" He chirped, pressing his nose to hers. "What are we doing first? Are we going to go out of camp? Can we go outside today?" Spiderpaw didn't bother trying to dampen his obvious exhilaration. Why should he? He was so excited!

It felt like any other ceremony - until Sootstorm announced the mentor. She immediately stood up from where she sat - shooting Galestorm and Morningmoon an excited grin. She turned her head to Sootstorm. He was yet again entrusting her with an apprentice, and she silently hoped that he knew she'd try her best. Further, as she passed Cricketpaw while approaching her new apprentice, she hoped that he understood her guidance wouldn't waver. She felt oddly conflicted.
Yet, as Spiderpaw bounded to her and she looked into his eager eyes - she knew she was ready for whatever challenges lay ahead. Her heart swelled with affection for the little tom. She could already tell that he'd train well - StarClan's very own blessing. "Hey there, Spiderpaw!" She greeted him warmly, returning his nose touch with a gentle nuzzle. "First things first, we have to set you up a nest in the apprentices' den!" She mewed, giggling softly at his enthusiasm. "And then, we'll start with training sessions closer to the camp until you're ready to explore the territory. How does that sound?"
She didn't want to overwhelm the poor little guy! She couldn't help but be reminded of her apprenticeship. She was determined to be as good as a mentor as Eaglefly. The thought made a purr bubble from her chest.

Spiderpaw purred aloud as his mentor explained her plans. He had completely forgotten needing to set up his den! He wondered where he'd put his nest! He was excited to talk to the other apprentices too, hopefully without keeping them up all night. He got in enough trouble with the queens about that.
"That sounds perfect! I'm so excited, I'll set up my nest real quick so we can go out!" He chirped, some of it coming over his shoulder as he was already scampering towards the apprentice den. However, he skidded to a stop halfway there. "Wait, moss first." Spiderpaw pivoted on his paws to hastily change direction. It would be hard to make a nest without moss!
