As she approached the WindClan border, careful to keep on her own side of the scent markers, Leopardstar's tail lashed once. Her displeasure was immediately clear, though she was doing what she could to keep it in check; to that end, she was glad she'd opted to bring one of her calmer warriors with her. Sablestrike needed medical attention, and just like Sunflare, he would likely spark open hostility.
When a patrol arrived, she did what she could to relax her expression, though she doubted it showed much at all.
"It seems that we have business with WindClan. I would like to speak with Tigerstar."

Auburnpaw rolled her eyes at every catch or miss the others on her patrol managed. Did every success or failure warrant a comment? A long sigh escaped the apprentice's lips once her turn to catch something came. She wasn't interested in anything fancy, so a small rabbit that poked it's head out of it's hole was a prime target. If it didn't want to come all of the way out... well she would just force it. She came up and around the hole, quick as a flash and her light apprentice body as silent as a breeze.
The rabbit ducked its head back in, much to Auburnpaw's frustration. An unfamiliar voice and scent Shadowclan smell on the wind caught her attention. This was the first time she'd seen the leader, but she couldn't bring herself to feel particularly... impressed.
"Oh, don't we all want to speak to Tigerstar," Auburnpaw remarked smoothly with a half smile and a cool gaze on the leader. "I'm afraid he's not here. Give me the message. I'll be sure he gets it." Her voice cooed and her tail curled upward as she spoke, but her claws were itching to come out.

Rapidpaw was with her fellow apprentice. Comparatively, Rapidpaw was much more excited about the prospect of hunting as she much prefered it to fighting. She hip hopped along after their patrol having already caught a rabbit earlier.
She had not really interacted much with Auburnpaw but Rapidpaw liked pretty much everyone by default and so this was no exception.
She watched her denmate lose a rabbit but that was okie, not everyone could be as good a hunter as herself and she was not much of a sparrer so was sos to say in the least of that to mention of the times prior to this.
She slowed down seeing auburnpaws mood shift suddenly and it was not till then that she spotted the shadowclan leader.
Rapidpaw blinked unure what to do so she was grateful aubrunpaw was talking... and oh oh...oh my what was she saying?? Rapidpaw tilted her head a bit at her clanmates tone... "he is my mentor I can speak to him later" she purred much more sing-songy and happy than her fellow patrol and hunting partner.
----
Eaglefly could not belive he got stuck on patrol with these two... One was as grumpy as a badger and the other would not shut up. He drug a paw down his face... what awful thing had he done in a past life to get this wrath of karma?
What he would give to have cloudypaw back she was much more managable to be around than either of these two, stars when would this hunt be over?
He was about to suggest they go back (to end this misery) just for the worst thing to possibly happen have happen, shadowclan...
"oh great... not only do I have to deal with shadowclan ... this star forsaken patrol will be drug out longer" he muttered under his breath.
He sighed trailing behind his younger clanmates and glanced at the leader.
"The gathering is not so far off... you couldnt wait till then?" he asked trying to draw out just how urgent her message had to be

Not far behind Auburnpaw, a long-legged red tabby was stalking a bird through the tall grass. She couldn't see it, but she could hear it moving, the tap of its tiny toes as it scraped at the dirt, digging for insects. Two tall ears rotated forward, then to the sides, pinpointing where the bird was. Minkpaw wasn't as good at catching birds as she was rabbits, but she'd been practicing, and this time, she'd get it! All she had to do was-
The sound of an unfamiliar voice made Minkpaw snap her head towards its source, and the bird fluttered upwards, alarmed by her sudden movement. Minkpaw's eyes narrowed angrily, but the greater concern was the stranger on their border, so she forgot about the bird and moved that way, arriving just shortly after the rest of the patrol. Her ears caught the last bit of Auburnpaw's comment. A message? For who?
Then Rapidpaw chirped about her mentor, and it clicked as Eaglefly followed up with a comment about the Gathering. Minkpaw frowned, pressing forward to get a better look at their visitor, steely eyes widening slightly when she realized it was ShadowClan's leader. A frown played at Minkpaw's lips as she glanced between the rest of her patrolmates in disbelief. Was there not a sane head among them?
"I'm sure Leopardstar wouldn't be here if the message she had for Tigerstar could wait," Minkpaw said stonily. An apologetic glance found its way towards Leopardstar, and she inclined her head towards the moor. "We would be happy to escort you through the territory."

Si have never been a calm blue sea, i have always been a storm
Tigerstar had warned to keep a close eye on the Shadowclan border, but as she had never gotten over the tension between them, she had always been keeping an eye on them. She had taken the patrol closer to the thunderpath this morning, and to her surprise there was a strong scent of Shadowclan that wafted to her. The warrior's through rumbled with a preemptive snarl. Sleepyhollow's own displeasure was clear on her face, the warrior stood shoulder to shoulder with her brother and her mother's apprentice, the corner of her mouth twitched up at Auburnpaw's remark.
On one paw she really didn't think Leopardstar deserved to demand anything from them, yet on the other hand the Shadowclan leader didn't seem to have much of a patrol with her. The warrior glanced to her younger brother and to the gaggle of apprentices they had with them.
Sleepyhollow raised a brow at the apologetic glance shared between Minkpaw and Leopardstar but eventually gave a nod, "Yes, come." she meowed, her voice cold as she turned to lead them to Tigerstar.

Leopardstar remained on her own side of the border, despite an eager apprentice and the cold voice of a warrior she vaguely recognized. When she spoke, her voice was practiced neutral; ice-cold fury coursing through her veins. "Given that one of my warriors just burst into camp missing an eye and covered in blood, and the only explanation I received pointed me to WindClan, I can almost guarantee that I am exactly as displeased with this situation as you are. That I brought a single guard and not a full patrol is my one act of good faith and goodwill."
Her tail lashed once, but she kept her voice and posture as calm as possible outside of that. Uncontrolled anger did no good to anyone, and she didn't come for a fight. "You have no reason to be happy to see me, nor I you. But you do have reason to allow me to speak with your leader: in situations such as this, the truth must come to light. Were it one of yours who was maimed and one of my warriors seemingly responsible, I have no doubts you'd come to me for explanation; and I would provide it. I value truth and justice, and clearly there is something missing from my understanding of what transpired today."

Galestorm
As Galestorm weaved his way out of the brush, a freshly killed squirrel in his jaws, he made his way back in the direction of his patrol. As he approached, the squirrel dropped from his jaws at the sight of Leopardstar - ShadowClan's leader. He immediately noted the tense atmosphere, taking in the body language of the apprentices that accompanied the patrol and Eaglefly, the senior warrior. Galestorm approached from behind his clanmates and overheard their remarks.
"Have a shred of respect, Auburnpaw," he growled from above the new apprentice, giving her a firm cuff over the ears. "This is ShadowClan's leader, for StarClan's sake. If she is here herself, with only one of her warriors, it must be important." He turned his amber gaze to Leopardstar and dipped his head in respect. "Apologies, Leopardstar." He nodded toward Minkpaw and Sleepyhollow as they offered to escort the ShadowClan leader back to camp. "Rapidpaw, as Tigerstar's apprentice, please go on ahead of us and let him know we're on our way." He nodded encouragingly to the apprentice.
Galestorm felt a stone forming in the pit of his stomach at the news of an injured ShadowClan warrior. He kept his head and tail high and didn't allow his worries to show in his posture, but the tom couldn't help but wonder what might have happened. Had there been a skirmish at the ShadowClan border that I didn't know about?
Galestorm brought up the rear of the escort, keeping a cautiously watchful eye on their company. Leopardstar had been respectful here, much unlike the stories he'd heard about ShadowClan, and the WindClan patrol outnumbered them, but he wanted to be able to ensure from his position that every cat - his eyes settled momentarily on Auburnpaw - wouldn't step out of line. I'll have to have a word with Coyotegrin later, he decided.

Si have never been a calm blue sea, i have always been a storm
Before the apprentices or her seemingly hot headed brother could make a mess of the situation Sleepyhollow tilted her head, though right before she was about to respond she heard Galestorm come up behind them. She raised a brow at him, apologizing? What should they be apologizing for? Tigerstar had told them someone had crossed into their territory recently, it didn't take a Starclan prophecy to connect the dots. Sleepyhollow led the patrol back to camp, her own shoulders pushed back, tail high. "Clearly there is something you're missing. It seems your warriors aren't telling you the whole truth." she commented lightly, knowing how tense the situation was. With how rocky their relationship was, any one of these border scuffles could turn into an all out war and if Sleepyhollow lost another friend, another sibling..Starclan forbid.
The distance to camp from the border was a short one, "Leopardstar is here to speak with Tigerstar." she announced, although with Rapidpaw giving Tigerstar some heads up, she didn't doubt the entire clan knew by now as well as their leader.

Tigerstar was waiting at the entrance for the patrol to return to camp after Rapidpaw's quick jaunt back to camp to inform the leader of the coming drama. The leader shifted his weight from paw to paw, curious as to what lies Shadowclan had spoken about their little incident at the border. Of course the leader straightened up as soon as he saw the party approaching. Green eyes narrowing slightly so the striped tom could appear more serious.
"Leopardstar. I was just planning on coming to see you myself, but it seems you beat me to the jump." Tigerstar stated. "We have much to discuss."

"WindClan and ShadowClan have long had bad blood on both sides," she shrugged lightly to the warrior who had apologized on behalf of the particularly snippy apprentice. "While I have no desire to continue that history, this reception is... Understandable, to say the least."
Deserved, even if she resented it.
At last, they arrived at WindClan's camp; and she could finally speak with Tigerstar. With any luck, he would be marginally less condescending than his warriors; he'd seemed reasonable enough during the brief glimpses she'd had of him at the lake.
"It would seem so," Leopardstar nodded. "As I said to the patrol that led me here: one of my warriors came into my camp covered in blood and with one less eye than they'd had when they left. The only explanation I received pointed me to WindClan. If you were about to come seeking me, then I assume you have the answers I came for."

Auburnpaw did not take kindly to anyone's words and especially not the physical reprimand. Her eyes hardened and a growl rumbled quietly in her throat. Who cares if this was Shadowclan's leader? Leopardstar wasn't her leader. She followed the group grudgingly, but her ears perked up and her eyes brightened when Leopardstar mentioned what happened to one of her warriors. Now things were interesting!
"Was it a lot of blood? I mean more than you're used to seeing." She asked Leopardstar, shamelessly cutting into a conversation that certainly didn't involve her. She realized just a moment after that she needed to add one more thing so as not to ruffle the fur of the Sensitives as she had labeled them.
"And is he okay?" She said, the word bordering on a sigh of boredom. She flicked a brief, venomous glance at Galestorm. Hit me again and I will put thorns in your nest.
"Auburnpaw." Tigerstar said sharply and firmly, heavily implying the warning in his tone. Green eyes sharply cutting over to the apprentice before turning back to Leopardstar giving her a slight dip of his head as an apology.
"It seems neither of us got the full story then. My warrior, who at the time was an apprentice, had found your warrior crossing our border. She did as the code asked and defended her border, coming back to us with a grievous injury on her shoulder. I was unaware about the loss of the eye in the process." Tigerstar stated filling in gaps that were present for Leopardstar. He was certain that his warriors were now aware of who he spoke of because there was only one cat that matched what he spoke of. "Now that we both know the full truth, what would you like as a resolution? I want to know what you are thinking." He already thought the loss of an eye was punishment enough, but he wanted to see what Leopardstar thought. See if she would leave it there or demand more, and if she did demand more then things might not be so pretty afterwards.

Galestorm sat a respectful distance from Tigerstar and Leopardstar as they spoke, keeping his eyes locked on the insolent apprentice that seemed to insist on making a nuisance of herself. He met her glare evenly, his amber eyes narrowing. At least she's pretending to care, he mused.
His ears pricked up when he heard what Tigerstar was explaining to Leopardstar, and suddenly the pieces seemed to fall together. He remembered Crakeburn as an apprentice spending some time in the medicine den, and returning with a pretty nasty shoulder scar. The entire clan had been quiet about it, and Crakeburn herself wouldn't talk about what happened. It had seemed strange, but Galestorm wanted to respect her boundaries. It all makes sense now.
Respect blossomed in Galestorm's chest for Crakeburn's bravery and pride. She had defended the border - by herself, it seemed - and had sent the ShadowClan deputy back across with a wound to remember her by. She had defended WindClan bravely, a true warrior. She certainly deserved her warrior ceremony after that. Galestorm could only wish that he had been there to help her, and perhaps she wouldn't have gotten so injured.
His attention flicked back to the two leaders. Tigerstar was asking Leopardstar what her ideas were for a resolution. It didn't really feel like it needed a resolution - after all, who was crossing which clan's border? Crakeburn had abided by the warrior code and defended her clan honorably. Galestorm flicked his tail, watching and listening with interest, from a distance.

Leopardstar's eyes narrowed slightly, but her expression otherwise remained neutral; entirely dismissive of the particularly outspoken apprentice and not paying close attention to the warrior attempting to keep her in check. "The outcropping has been ShadowClan land for as long as any cat can remember. While I would potentially have been willing to cede it if given good reason, the fact that WindClan didn't even offer the basic courtesy of sending a message if you intended to claim it for yourselves leaves a less than stellar impression. Here I had thought chicanery and scheming were considered ShadowClan traits."
Sablestrike stepped over the line with how he handled the situation, certainly, but I can at least understand the assumption that our land would still be ours.
The warrior in question would surely be insufferably smug about it if she allowed him that grace while speaking out loud. She would have to consider her words carefully during their next conversation.
"I understand that you were thrown into the position of leadership unexpectedly, Tigerstar, but it's clear that your diplomatic skills are lacking."
A carefully maintained expression of neutrality was key. She couldn't let the WindClan cats see the anger behind her thoughts, justified or no; they were going to catch on to the fact that she was displeased with the situation regardless.
...Did they take the outcropping specifically because they know we're smaller than the other Clans, and less likely to fight for it? We were traveling together not long ago. They would know, and they would know about the losses we've had as well...
As she pushed aside those idle thoughts, her long, feather-like tail brushed her paws. "Allow me to make myself clear: I have no desire to pick a fight with you. Were it my own choice, the bad blood between us would have been buried along with the leaders that started it. Needless bloodshed has cost us both far too much already."
Her own kits weren't the own to be buried after that battle. No one had won that day.
"But let it be known that while ShadowClan is not cruel, we are also not spineless; and we do not take blatant disrespect and disregard lightly."
A reminder that she was not just one cat, but the representative of her Clan.
"What I can offer you is the assurance that the warrior in question will be reprimanded for their misconduct in combat, and the knowledge that I will not presently be demanding our land back. Nothing more."

You can’t fix the past, but you can change the future.
Sootstorm had watched in silence from the corner of the camp from the moment Leopardstar's arrival was announced all up until now. That was, until the maiming of his daughter was dismissed without so much as a reply from the ShadowClan leader, let alone an apology. She then had the absolute nerve to insult Tigerstar's ability as a leader to his face, then gave a threat as if she were giving them mercy. Who did she think she was? If Tigerstar willed it, the entire WindClan would be upon her, tearing away every one of those lifes that were so foolishly given to her. Did she really think that just because ShadowClan had won a battle against WindClan seasons ago that she could just stroll into camp insulting their leader in front of their entire Clan while acting as if the near death of one of their apprentices were their own fault? As if a mere reprimanding would suffice for the giant scar that now marred Crakeburn's shoulder. Rarely had the tom ever experienced anger, not even when his own mother chose to abandon him, or when his friends were killed, mauled to death thanks to the perceived fault of their medicine cat. But now? ShadowClan had gone too far. Truly, they didn't think this through. Leopardstar could preach all she wanted about not wishing for a fight and wanting to exchange words rather than claws, but she couldn't hide her true colours for long. If that was truly what she wanted, she would have sent a messanger asking for a talk with Tigerstar about the borders rather than sending her deputy to assault whichever poor soul was closest to the border. She would not have stormed into the camp to trigger everyone with her words. No, Leopardstar wanted war, or perhaps her head was really so high up the clouds that she couldn't see what could possibly go wrong. She spoke of ShadowClan not being pushovers? Well, really, she must think WindClan was.
A huff of contempt left Sootstorm at the arrogance that reeked from the she-cat that stood alone in their camp, accompanied by a warrior who she did not request to stand beside her. Where was Crakeburn? He wanted to be by her side, comfort her and let her know that whatever transpired by that border, it wasn't her fault. She was an apprentice, and was nothing but brave for protecting her Clan against a warrior who was so obviously stronger than her. Rage churned in his belly as he watched Tigerstar and Leopardstar. It wasn't his place to step in, not when Leopardstar had requested specifically to speak to Tigerstar, but stars it was difficult keeping his mouth shut. Tigerstar was passive enough, and yet he was labeled as uncivil and scheming? That was his brother that stood the disgusting, and honestly unnecessary insults. Finally, he knew what it was like for Brackenwing. He understood what it felt like to have rage and anger burn inside him and the overwhelming urge to lash out, to wipe that high and mighty expression off that fox-hearted she-cat. And here he had been hoping for peace, for the exact same words that Leopardstar echoed but refused to upkeep.
But the tables had turned. If Leopardstar had not realised it yet, he would help her be reminded of this one fact: WindClan was now the one that was much bigger than ShadowClan. Forget the past, when ShadowClan outnumbered WindClan by swarms. WindClan was now the stronger Clan, and she had walked right into it's heart. Sootstorm rose from his position, conceiling his rage with a mask of complete blankness that was somehow much scarier. The emotions that once so strongly controlled the tom was gone, wiped away in the crash of raging waves that now overtook him. Happiness? Peace? No, they belonged to a cat who could afford to dream. Sootstorm could not.
Tail lashing, the tom slid out from behind his brother, unreadable narrowed eyes meeting Leopardstar's gaze in an unwavering hold. He put on a smile, a smile that did not reach his eyes. "Much like ShadowClan, WindClan does not take lightly to blatant disrespect and disregard, nor are we spineless," He began, quoting the words that Leopardstar had so generously used, "As such, I'm sure you'll find it understandable that we find the leader of another Clan coming to our camp to insult our leader to his face, extremely disrespectful, as well as dismissing the maiming of one of our younger members by offering a simple reprimanding as a form of generosity. Seeing as your diplomatic skills are so much better, though I've never heard of threatening to take back territory as a form of diplomacy, must be due to my apparent lack of skill in such a matter, I'm sure you know what to do next." Perhaps his rage was far more evident in his voice than either of the leaders', but he could hardly cared in this moment. He had never felt so insulted in his life before. Even if Leopardstar somehow understood that she had made a mistake, he doubted that she'd swallow her pride to apologise, or even bother recognizing her mistake. And he had thought she was better than her predecessor.
