With the clans once more back in the forest, the half-moon shone through the cracks of a cloudy leaf-bare sky. Snow had fallen earlier in the day, gently blanketing the ground with drifts that crunched underpaw. Despite the tension that hung in the air, it would be the first time the medicine cats would get to convene with their ancestors at the Moonstone since the great journey they all had gone through. What sort of answers would the stars deliver tonight?
As Echosong arrived at the medicine cat meeting, the tension was thick in the air. As the first to arrive with Fawnshine, he settled near the entrance to Mothermouth where the rock overhanging cast shelter from the mornings snow. His gaze wandering to the very distant mountains they had just came from. The clouds seemed to pass by as slowly as time did in the quiet rocks of Highstones.

This would be Heatherberry's first Moonstone as a solo medicine cat, but certainly not the first meeting where the air felt heavy with tension. Large paws left dents in the snow as she padded onwards, nodding to Echosong and Fawnshine. "Pleasant night, as always. I do enjoy our meetings." Her voice dripped with sarcasm, though her tone remained light. No use getting caught up in others drama. If she had two eyes to give a wink, she just might have.
Taking a seat and wrapping her tail around her paws, she shivered slightly in the chilled wind. Newleaf couldn't get here any faster.

Littlesplash had been to Highstones numerous times over the past moon. At this point, his uncertainty along the way had transformed into a familarity where is paws almost moved on their own. However, instead of being light or buzzing with excitement like when he had come to recieve his full name, the young medicine cat felt as if his paws were made of heavy stone. Each day the clan grew closer to battle. It was an impossible thing to digest for a cat with so little experience in the matter of forest politics. He trusted Perchstar regardless and knew it would be better than sitting around and waiting for Skyclan to kill their clanmates whenever they decided.
Tonight, it was the thought of meeting with the other medicine cats that was paralyzing rather than comforting. They were supposed to be outside of clan divisions but would be healing cats on opposite sides of the battlefield. He felt impossibly small as he hauled himself up the last few steps. A brief moment of relief washed over him as the scents of Thunderclan and Shadowclan reached his nose. Heatherberry's familiar pelt brought him the comfort of familarity, no matter how brief their interaction had been.
He opened his maw to speak but the words stalled on his tongue as he remembered with a pang of grief he'd have to share the news of Sandyshell's death. Littlesplash looked at his paws and drew closer to Heatherberry. His half-clouded gaze flickered across the stone rather than meeting the eyes of his companions tonight. It would have been better to speak to the Thunderclan medicine cats given what was soon bound to happen but he found himself willing one of them would break the silence first.

The journey to Highstones had been made in silence. Cold, oppressive silence followed the three of them all the way from SkyClan's camp, the icy tension between Hemlockfox and Thymelight so thick that it was practically suffocating. There were three clans on the brink of war, two of them in direct opposition to Smokepetal's own clan, but even so, the relief she felt when the others finally came into view was clear on her face as she separated from her apprentices and pushed forward, dipping her head in greeting to the cats that had already gathered and were sitting together.
She didn't know what the deal between Thymelight and Hemlock was. Both of them were skilled medicine cats, and she loved the pair of them like they were kits of her own, but the distinct difference in their personalities was sometimes incredibly jarring - not to mention the fact that they didn't seem able to stand each other. Smokepetal spent most of her time with one, the other, or both, so she was used to it to some extent, but recently it had become unbearable.
"It's a pleasure to see you all," she said genuinely, though her eyes were round and soft with poorly hidden worry at how they would receive her. SkyClan's current reputation left a lot to be desired, and though Smokepetal would never go as far as to question Birdstar or Wolfblossom's judgement, that didn't mean she was blind to the way the other clans perceived them. She just hoped that it wouldn't be a detriment to the working relationship she had with her peers.
*
When they headed down towards the Moonstone, Smokepetal stuck towards the front of the pack, navigating her way down like she had a hundred timed before. Taking her usual spot near the Moonstone, she leaned forward and touched her nose to the stone.
A cat smelling of Riverclan approached them and Echosong tilted his head in confusion, perhaps another stand in for Sandyshell -that Quill fellow had been in her stead before. But Echosong didn't question Little's attendance, just simply moved his gaze to the Skyclanner's whom he gave an amicable but sharp nod of his head before dipping into the tunnels that lead to the Moonstone.
It had been a while since he had touched noses with the stone, he followed behind the Skyclan she-cat, found his own place, laid down, and finally touched his nose to the cold stone.

And did the twin flame bruise paint you blue?
"So you were never a saint and I've loved in shades of wrong. We learn to live with the pain, mosaic broken hearts."
Unspoken tension was high in the air tonight, even if left unsaid. Small talk and usual formalities were exchanged, with Fawnshine remaining close to Echosong as always and keeping an eye out for any sources of potential trouble. Usually, she'd engage in at least one of them for politeness—but war was silently brewing, and she felt it was best to be more wary than anything else.
Offering a curt nod to Heatherberry and Smokepetal, she raised a brow at a cat in place of Sandyshell but figured her disappearance would be explained later on anyway; exchanging the briefest nod back. Walking near the front, she followed the ever-so-familiar ritual of pressing her nose against the cold Moonstone and allowed StarClan to do the rest.

Heatherberry nodded to... Littlekit? Surely not with Sandyshell absent. Once again, the young tom was at a loss for words, cowering near the closest molly he knew. He had grown somewhat since their last meeting at the lake territories, but not by much. "I'm going to assume your name isn't Littlekit anymore. What is it now? Littlepaw?" It was unlikely to be a full name, but one couldn't just assume. After all, she had gone from Harriertalon to Heatherberry within moons, never carrying the name of -paw a second time.
Her attention turned to one of SkyClan's medicine cats as she announced herself, an odd tension radiating off of her that added to the one already lingering. Her eye narrowed, but she would not pry. Everyone was beginning to slip through the tunnels to reach the Moonstone, anyway. There would be plenty of time afterwards to speak. She would still need to tell them of Burdockroot. "Tell me your true name after we dream, Little." Without knowing his full name, she would stick to a nickname until she was certain.
--
There it was in all of its sickening glory, shining bright under the rays of the half moon. Under her thick fur were goosebumps at the very thought of being forced to dream some new nightmare.
With a heavy sigh, she curled into a tight ball and touched her black nose to the glimmering stone.

All Hail SkyClan's Resident Disney Princess
thymelight
No matter how your heart is grieving, if you keep on believing.
All Thymelight was interested in was silence. She held no ill-will toward the other medicine cats, but the knowledge of an unavoidable war still weighed heavily on her mind. She would've stayed home if she had a choice, but she refused to let her anxieties stop her from doing her job. Hemlockfox's presence wasn't quite helping either. Ever since their... "discussion", she was unsure if things had gone from bad to worse between them. She could feel her mental state drowning in the river of unpleasant ordeals she had to worry about. Her demeanor was outwardly calm and pleasant as she gave each of the medicine cats a quick nod but stayed close enough to Smokepetal so she wouldn't have to engage in conversation with anyone else.
Even the sight of the Moonstone wasn't enough to please the she-cat, but instead, the smallest feeling of dread formed in her throat. She was about to meet with the same stars that she had questioned so many times in the past, and Thymelight wasn't sure if she was afraid or upset. Nevertheless, she pressed her nose against the cold stone and let herself drift off into a dream.
