Nettlekit's Apprentice Ceremony

Despite his medicine cat's insistence on having rest, Sablestrike still had duties he needed to carry out. He was fine with allowing Leopardstar to take up some of the easier duties that wouldn't overwhelm her, but this was one that he would not cede to any others. After a few embarrassing fails at leaping onto the Jaggedrock the tom finally cleared the peak, standing tall over his clan as he let out a call.

"All cats old enough to silently stalk in the shadows, please gather in the shadow of the Jaggedrock for a Clan meeting!"

Nettlekit’s last interference in a clan meeting had been humiliating for all parties involved. Not that it had bothered him or his brother too much, or dampened their spirits. He hoped now that maybe he was a little more mature, even if he didn’t particularly feel that way, as he sat down amongst the gathering cats. The tom’s eyes scanned over the crowd, judging, making tabs, storing what he noticed away, eventually they settled on the deputy. Nettlekit had to stifle a laugh, a paw racing to his maw to cover the guffaw he let out. It wasn’t his fault Sablestrike looked so silly, and the fact he lost his eye to an apprentice? It was really funny! But he shouldn’t laugh, not when the black tom upon the jaggedrock looked so serious. The same serious look he’d been wearing when the young kitten had scaled him like he were another plaything. Stars, it just kept getting funnier, he was shaking trying not to laugh, tears streaming down his face. Perhaps, Nettlekit was just so excited about the possibility of his impending ceremony… Not that he was losing it over the mutilation of his deputy. Yeah, Nettlekit had totally matured since he’d last come to a clan meeting.

Sablestrike watched the kit move amongst his fellow clanmates, discerning eyes taking in the faces and movements around him. He seemed like a thoughtful young tom despite his previous antics. That was, until Nettlekit turned his attention to him and started shaking like a fool. Sablestrike grimaced at that, his image of the kit quickly falling back to the immature little thing that he was. Oh well, he could always stick the tiny tom with a warrior that could remove that sense of immaturity from him. "Nettlekit, the tom barked sharply. "Step forward."

"You have reached the age of six moons and are ready to become an apprentice. From this day on until you earn you warrior name you will be known as Nettlepaw. Your mentor will be Swiftheart. She is an intensely loyal warrior with skills to match, I know she will teach you well." Not the most mature warrior, now that he thought about it, but their personalities would mesh well he was sure. Maybe I should have taken him. I could have beaten some sense into him myself.

The tom's laughing fit came to an abrupt halt, as Sablestrike yelled his name loud and clear. Tentatively, Nettlekit rose to his comical paws, smiling sheepishly an abashed look upon his little face, Perhaps he had not been discreet enough in his fun. Under the deputy's command he stepped forward, the ball of fluff that was his tail twitching. Mismatched eyes, stared at the ground, not trusting himself to look at Sablestrike without the leash he had on his laughter snapping. Hurry up! I'm dying over here!

The ceremony seemed to drag on, and on and on. Nettlekit had to tell himself it would all be worth it too avoid laughing or yawning or sighing, or a combination of all three. Boredom was quickly replaced as the name of his mentor was called. Swiftheart! The warrior that had played with him so much as a kit, who had helped him escape this boring camp! Oh, now this was a match made in StarClan! But he had to wonder how aware Sablestrike was of the pair's antics, well whatever it didn't matter now, wasn't like he could take it back. "Thanks, Sablestrike!" he mewed excitedly turning on his heel and racing to find Swiftheart before she even had a chance to react. The newly named Nettlepaw was bouncing on his paws, almost jumping in the air in front of the she-cat. "Did ya hear that?!" he purred "You're my mentor Swiftheart! Oh, this is the best we are going to have so much fun, more fun than I had with you as a kit now I have all this freedom! Teach. Me. Everything." He was so excited! The white tom jumped up to press his nose to Swiftheart's, but he completely misjudged how much power there was behind his leap, instead headbutting the warrior square in the nose. "...Oops?"

Swiftheart sat watching her good friend trying to get up jaggedrock. She felt for him a lot. His poor eye. She sat still uncofortably watching him trying to get up... she wondered if she should go over to help or if that would just upset him all the more.

She was one to want to help anyone, but also understood a tom-cat's pride very well given who her brother was.

She listened tail flicking back and forth to the meeting and let out an excited purr at being named mentor.

Her eyes widened all sorts of excited.

It was for NETTLEPAW!!!?? The little mucnchkin furball she had so much fun with when he was kit!?

She nearly leapt up from her sitting position to whoop in a happy joyful celebration.

"Nettlepaw!!" she cheered happily. Oh look! he was coming over to greet her as was tradition... he was going kinda fast though ---

Crunch!

She winced stumbling back a little as her nose was smacked into. She tasted the all so familiar blood in her mouth and wiped a paw across her nose bleed.

It was nothing bad at all, would be fine.

She tried to wipe the blood off her white paw, her pelt stained so easily it seemed. She had tried to get it nicely laid down for the meeting, but bothers to that now.

She rolled her eyes a little and gave him a side glance but couldnt help but to giggle looking at him....

OH, this was gonna be FUN!

"ohh this clan better look out for us" she purred happily and pointed her tail to the apprentice den,

"come on, lets get ya set up first then we can do training next promise!" while he set his new nest in the apprentice den she could focus on getting her nose bleed under control more.

Nettlepaw matched her grin, glad she wasn't angry, and seemed just as excited as he was. "They better!" he said in agreement, mismatched eyes narrowing mischievously. With his new apprentice name he followed in tow, a saunter to his step. "Lead the way, Swiftheart."
