Preparations [Open - Hunting Patrol]

Frozen leaves crunched underpaw as Silverdusk and the ragtag hunting patrol stalked through the undergrowth. Hunting was more important than ever now, ThunderClan had to be as fit as possible if they were preparing for war. Hopefully this patrol would help keep the fresh-kill pile fully stocked. The warriors green eyes were peeled searching for prey and possible dangers - specifically the pelts of enemy cats. Since Mottlestar had announced they were going to war Silverdusk had found no time to relax preparing herself with the upmost dedication for what was awaiting on the horizon. This hunting patrol was probably the most relaxing the next few days would be for them.

ThunderClan territory was still a little unfamiliar to the young warrior, but she had already come to realise this area was teeming with prey. It took no time for them to pick out the brown pelt of a rabbit amongst the tree trunks. As she had practiced during her apprenticehood, Silverdusk dropped into a hunter's crouch. Silently they etched forward until they were within pouncing distance. For several heartbeats they sat tail twitching watching the rabbit, before exploding out of the bushes. The rabbit had no time to register they were even there before Silverdusk killed it with a nip to the neck. She found somewhere to bury her kill before returning to the party, falling into step beside Ivypaw. The warrior regarded the apprentice for a moment, this time must not be easy for him."How do you feel?" they meowed Ivypaw.

Crocusfrost padded alongside Silverdusk and Ivypaw, calm and quiet as they made their way through Thunderclan territory- a territory that the large she-cat sorely missed. It seemed that at least Crocusfrost had been correct that they had to leave to give the territory time to heal, to give the prey time to grow fat, slow, and plentiful. Silverdusk made quick work of a rabbit, and Crocus gave the she-cat a pleased chuff but otherwise didn't say anything since it seemed that the she-cat had words on her tongue. Words for Ivypaw with concern colouring her tone. The feral understood it, felt the same with her own apprentice near constantly, and so she gave the two some room by splitting off.

Long ears caught the she-cat's attention, and Crocusfrost gave her thanks to Gekala and Starclan for the opportunity for such large prey. The she-cat had felt the constant pang of hunger for many many moons, and surely it was only to the thanks of her loved ones in Gekala that they sent this to her? Thanks to Starclan because it was only customary and she did not want to anger the gods by at the very least not being thorough. By now, she had heard stories about how cruel Starclan seemed to be, and while the she-cat she had met in her dream seemed nice the place did not seem to be as grand as her clanmates seemed to make it out to be.

Moving into a hunter's crouch, the she-cat crept forward, confident in her movements. But mountain hunting still seemed ingrained in the large she-cat's muscles and with less practice in the dense foliage of Thunderclan's territory since they left... one thing led to another and Crocusfrost fumbled her chance by being a bit too loud. Crocusfrost clicked her tongue at herself admonishingly, certain that Gekala had wanted her well but it was her own fault for ruining her chance at a prime choice of prey. Exhaling heavily through her nose, she returned to the patrol.

Crocusfrost attempted to catch a Hare! She failed! -5 SP.

Behind Crocusfrost, Silverdusk, and Ivypaw padded Vinecrawler. He was not one to miss out on a hunt, especially when his belly always asked for thirds during every meal. For the sake of his clanmates, though, he didn't indulge in the fresh-kill pile; he just went hunting for his own meals.

The patrol was already proving fruitful as Silverdusk caught a rabbit. "Good work. We will eat like true warriors with your catch." Turning to look at Crocusfrost as she huffed in defeat as a hare got away, Vinecrawler only had the chance give her a look of pity before the chirps of a bird caught his attention. Large sandy head swiveled upwards to catch sight of a plump bird with a red belly and brown wings, passively thinking Quailprowler may enjoy the red plumes as decoration for her nest or even her pelt. He needed to catch it.

Dropping as low as he could without touching his belly to the cold snow, Vinecrawler crept forward until he was near the base of the large tree the robin chattered in. In one fluid motion, his muscles rippled beneath thin pelt as he sprang upwards with claws outstretched, claws snagging the bird as he pulled it in close to dispatch it with his teeth. A heavy thud sounded as he hit the ground with his prized prey, kicking up snow as he did. Wonderful. He would get dinner and Quailprowler would get pretty feathers. Win win!

"I’m fine," he meowed to Silverdusk, padding further into the forest. Crocusfrost and his mentor, Vinecrawler, tagged along as well. Vinecrawler went after a hare, and Ivypaw noticed a mouse scurrying past snow and undergrowth. He dipped into a hunting crouch, unsheathing his claws before leaping after the mouse with his claws. He had successfully caught the mouse and turned back to face the other’s picking it up.

Silverdusk hummed in agreement, before turning her attention to their other companions. If Ivypaw did not want to talk, she would not push him - plus Vinecrawler was here, it wasn't their place to question his apprentice. "Thank you, your catch is not so bad either." the silver warrior meowed with a dip of their head, purring lightly. "I am sure your next catch will be a success, Crocusfrost." Bright green eyes flew to a flash of red dancing in the canopy. Her mouth opened as they scented the air, squirrel! A soft smile crept on to her maw, they would bring this back for Wiggleworm. She wasn't even sure it was his favourite prey, but he had loved the last one they had brought him so much. It would be nice to have another excuse to see him again, and make him as happy as the last squirrel had.

Tree climbing was not something they had practiced, but how hard could it be? Copying the squirrel's movements the lean molly scurried up the tree, claws scrambling for purchase and sending bark showering to the ground below. Their quick movement soon had Silverdusk with in striking distance. With one paw she lashed out the squirrel knocking it from its perch and towards her, which they caught in their mouth. They leapt down from the tree, and finished off the red rodent with a nip to the neck then returned to their party.
