Crakekit's Apprentice Ceremony

Pride radiated off of her in waves that were so thick, they could have sustained the entire Clan. She had groomed her pelt to perfection with the assistance of her mother, and every part of her was now ready to be presented to the rest of Windclan. She'd even kept to her best behavior today, refraining from tussling with any of her littermates. After all, they would have ceremonies too. Sitting out amongst the crowd, she could hardly keep her paws contained as she looked up at her papa. Who would be the first one to be called forward? That was the only question on her mind.

She was the first! Unable to help the grin that stuck to her face as she looked towards Heatherkit, Crakekit came forward to her father's command. There was a multitude of warriors that she could have been apprenticed to, and wait--Fennelbreeze? She was going to be the apprentice of her mother? The look of surprise flashed for just a moment on her features, clear as day that she was surprised to have been given her mother, but it was quickly overridden by the excitement of being named Crakepaw. She would keep that hurt buried deep.

The newly named Crakepaw turned, not having to go very far to be able to touch noses to her mother. She didn't say anything, though, before sitting right at her mother's side. Certainly, her mother would have much to teach her if Sootstorm had deemed her a worthy mate. But her mother? ... Was this her punishment for going too far with Heatherkit? Could she not be trusted to be taught by another clanmate? That idea made her chest hurt, and tears almost well into her eyes. By some miracle, she kept it down, forcing a smile onto her face that made it at least look as if whatever teary look came to her eyes was with cheer. "Don't go easy on me, mama." Crakepaw whispered, shuffling just a bit closer to be at Fennelbreeze's side. She'd swallow her pride. She'd be a good apprentice. And... she couldn't dare hurt her father's feelings. Or her mother's.

"Crakepaw!!!" Rapidkit yelled as loud as she could while jumping up and down.

She wanted to run up to her sibling and nuzzle into her and congratulate her but a quick look at Crakepaw and her heart dropped a little...

Was that disappointed she saw on her sisters face? Rapidkit swallowed a bit hoping she just misinterpreted and would not dare speak a word of that to anyone but... why was Crake unhappy on such a day?

She had not figured out all the pieces to that puzzle but she gave her sister the happiest smile of encouragement she could.

As the clan gathered at Sootstorm's familiar call, Heatherkit sat near the center, tongue rasping over her chest. Today was the day. Her and her littermates were going to become apprentices and start training to be warriors like the rest, regardless of what territory their paws were on. She wanted to become ferocious enough to face any trial and climb every mountain. Determination and excitement caused her to sit up straight. Her pristinely groomed pelt glowed as if one with the snow, tanned accents and bright blue eyes being the only thing that helped to make her stand out.

Sootstorm spoke and she prepared to step forward... only to hear her sister's name called. Heatherkit's tail lashed in annoyance to know that the littermate she constantly competed with would be named first. The feeling subsided slightly when she heard that Fennelbreeze would be the one training her. Relief washed over her. At least she wasn't going to be mothered into her apprenticeship. Surely, Sootstorm had a good warrior in mind for her. Not that Fennelbreeze wasn't a great warrior, she was one of the best, but she was also their mother.

With a soft smirk at the edge of her maw, Heatherkit joined the cheers, "Crakepaw! Crakepaw!"

Cloudypetal couldn't be happier by the newest additions of their clan. Sootstorm and Fennelbreeze's kittens were lively and adorable - and they'd surely hold the clan together during a time like this. Remembering how great it felt to be celebrated as a young, impressionable kit - she had ran as fast as she could to attend this meeting. "Crakepaw, Crakepaw!" She yowled as loud as she could. There had been a lot of ceremonies lately, and thank StarClan for that, as it helped keep her mind off of other things.

She couldn't help but wonder what it was like to be mentored by your own mother, though. Morningmoon as my mentor. She shuddered at the thought, glancing at Galestorm briefly. Yeah, no thanks. I think they did just fine with our mentors. Eaglefly taught me well.
