Subject: Oatkit's Apprentice Ceremony Thu 14 Dec 2023 - 16:45
Happiness comes the way the wind blows
Sootstorm had been paying special attention to a particular kit as he neared his sixth moon, and finally it was the day that Oatkit would be promoted to an apprentice. Seeing the Clan, his Clan, filled him with a pride he couldn't quite put into words. Three new warriors in such a short period of time, and now an apprentice as well! Sootstorm leapt onto the small rise of the ground that allowed him to see most of their make-shift clan, and called out, "Let all cats old enough to run the moor gather here for a clan meeting!" The words still tasted odd in his mouth, but less than before.

Oatkit was beyond excited. He knew what this meeting was about - he'd been keeping track of the moons since he was old enough to count them. The day he had waited so long for was finally here! He could finally prove himself to his Clan. His mind whirled with excitement as he thought about all the things he wanted to do first! Hunting for his Clan, exploring the territory, gathering new moss for his Clanmates, meeting the other apprentices . . . he was nearly bouncing with excitement. He couldn't help but feel as though his life was just finally beginning. Gone were the days of being cooped up in camp - or, worse yet, cooped up in the nursery - no, now he could truly begin his path to become a warrior.
His parents nudged him lovingly toward the makeshift ceremony-spot. He felt like his heart might leap right out of his chest. His Clanmates were beginning to gather - those that were well enough to, anyway. He stopped to smooth his pelt, so that he might look somewhat presentable, but all his fur fluffed right back out again. He sat, as neatly as he knew how, staring up at Sootstorm with wide eyes and an even wider grin.
It didn't take long for the kit in question to appear, and Sootstorm wasted no time in beginning the ceremony. "Oatkit, step forward," he called out, pausing for a moment to allow the kit to do so. "You have now reached the age of six moons and are ready to become an apprentice," he continued, "From this moment on, until you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Oatpaw. Your mentor will be Quickfrost. I trust that she will teach you all that she knows." Yet again, he was appointing a newly-named warrior to be a mentor. It felt too early for them, but at this point every other warrior either already had an apprentice or was too sick to train one. He would simply have to check in with the apprentices and mentors often, and trust in his clanmates to do their absolute best.

Galekit was getting groomed by his mother, Morningmoon, in the nursery, when they heard the summons in the camp. Galekit felt a rush of excitement and pride knowing that his denmate was becoming an apprentice - and a pang of sadness as he realized it meant there would be an empty space in the nursery. He hadn't known Oatkit for very long, and the kit was much older than himself, but he admired Oatkit and envied him for being able to take the next step into apprenticeship.
"I want to watch the ceremony!" Galekit protested, squirming away from Morningmoon's tongue. A well-humored purr came in response and his mother led him out into the clearing. It looks like the rest of the clan already beat us here, he thought, but at least we are in time!
Sootstorm's voice yowled Oatpaw's new name loudly across the whole camp, and the voices of their clanmates cheered him on.
"Oatpaw! Oatpaw!" Galekit yowled as loud as he could. He looked on at the newly named apprentice with pride and purred loudly at Morningmoon's side. The clan is always growing stronger, he thought, and one day soon enough, that will be me up there!

Quickfrost was nearly zoned out listening to the ceremony. She wasn’t expecting to have an apprentice so soon after her warrior ceremony, but she looked around all the Windclan warriors either had an apprentice or was really sick. She was even a little sick herself, but not nearly enough to be denridden. As so she must do her warrior duties sane as any other healthy Windclan warrior. She walked up to the newly named Oatpaw and touched noses with him “We will begin training in the morning, meet me at the edge of camp” now that they had a camp, it would be easier to name specific areas around where they were. “Right about, there” she pointed.
Oatkit - no, Oatpaw now - bounced up to his new mentor. He wasn't aware of anything other than his own excitement. I'm finally an apprentice! I'm finally an apprentice! I'm finally an apprentice! After all his moons of waiting, he was finally a real part of the Clan he loved so much.
Quickfrost didn't seem quite as excited as him - but that was okay! Adults never seemed quite as excited as he expected them to be. He reached out to touch his nose to Quickfrost's - maybe a little too eager. "Sorry!" He squeaked, eyes widening as he accidentally smashed his nose into his new mentor's. Ouch...
"I'll be there." He meowed, suddenly serious. A determined glint shone in his eyes. His Clanmate's cheers only fueled him. He was going to be the best warrior WindClan had ever seen. He couldn't wait!
