All around camp, Wolfstar's eyes found the grieving faces of her clanmates. So many warriors lost in such a short time... There was nothing worse that she could have imagined, and there was no cat unaffected. Family, friends, apprentices... Mentors. The leader closed her eyes and let out a weary sigh. She would have liked more time to mourn, but life would not wait, and more apprentices than she had known what to do with were left without one.
With a sigh, the leader leaped to the tallbranch, gaze over her clan. "All cats old enough to climb a tree, gather beneath the tallbranch for a meeting!"
BLAZEPAWi can't be who you need me to be he/they - skyclan app. - 7 moons
It had been days since Blazepaw had left the apprentices' den, not even bothering to eat or fix his fur. There was no one to rouse him for training anymore, and so he sat in his grief, eyes almost unseeing - like Brackendawn's were now - as he lay awake through the days and nights, unable to even sleep. Even now, as he dragged himself into the daylight for the first time in what felt like moons, he didn't have the strength to groom himself. His long fur was unkempt, tangled in knots or fluffed out every which way, bits of dried moss clinging to his pelt, and he was sure he looked miserable.
Well, he was.
He wasn't even sure why he was gathering for whatever death he was sure Wolfstar would be announcing now. No, it didn't matter. He didn't even bother to look up at her, eyes dull as he started at his paws. On with it, then, he wanted to say. Just get it over with.
Wolfstar felt her chest tighten at the sight of Blazepaw. He had not taken the death of his mentor, of his clanmates well, as no cat would be expected to. The last few days had been rough on everyone, and that was perhaps the greatest understatement of all. Gone was the bright and eager apprentice she had taken on patrol, and it pained Wolfstar to see it.
"The deaths of so many has affected all of us, and apprentices have been left without mentors." She began, haltingly. Foxdung, they were all still grieving, still reeling from so much loss. Reassigning mentors wasn't what Wolfstar particularly wanted to do, but it was unfortunately necessary. "Blazepaw-" She wished she could simply jump down from the tallbranch and curl around him protectively. But she couldn't protect any of the apprentices from the world around them, she had already failed at that. "Your new mentor shall be Stormwatcher." Wolfstar dipped her head in the direction of the tabby tom. Silently she leapt from the tallbranch, gently touching Blazepaw's shoulder with her tail in silent sympathy before retreating.

Blazepaw had to bite his tongue to keep himself from crying out. Grief hung like a shroud over his heart; maybe he hadn't even been Brackendawn's apprentice that long, but he'd finally felt a connection in this forsaken Clan when the tom was around. A connection other than just Firepaw.
But he supposed life had to go on. A heavy sigh left his lips as she announced the name of his new mentor. Stormwatcher? Who even was Stormwatcher? Blazepaw lifted his chin for a fraction of a second to see if he could spot the warrior. Whoever they were, he hoped they weren't looking forward to being his mentor. He wasn't exactly eager to get back to his training. No, once this dumb ceremony was over, he was going back to his nest. Blazepaw blinked gratefully at Wolfstar, wishing he could find the words to thank her for her sympathy, her care - she'd lost Clanmates, too - but they just got stuck in his throat. Instead, he turned, hurrying back to the apprentices' den.
