Sootstorm darted into the warrior's den, green eyes seeking out a particular pale-coloured pelt. The tom's smile widened as he found his target sleeping soundly in his nest. As much as he wanted to leave the tom to sleep away peacefully, patrol was patrol. Sootstorm stepped carefully over the other warrior's tails and paws to reach the tom's side, then gently nudged him awake. "Hey, Jayfrost, we have to go for a hunting patrol, remember?" He whispered into the tom's ear, careful not to wake the other warriors. Everyone was so tired recently, he didn't want to disturb their rare chance of peaceful, undisturbed sleep.

"Buzz off, snake." Something... no. Someone had nudged him awake. Narrowed blue eyes snapping open, he whipped his head around to see who had disturbed him. A warrior. Soot something. He didn't really care to know his name. He had woken him up, and that's all that really mattered. Hackles raising, a warning of the earful Sootstorm was about to receive, Jayfrost pulled his lips back in preparation to express his anger to the other warrior, only to be silenced by the reminder that he had early duties to attend to.

A defeated sigh. "Yeah, yeah. I'm coming." Forcing his fur to lay flat, he sluggishly dragged himself from the warmth of his nest. Once out of the den, he stretched out his front legs, scoring the sand beneath his claws as he brought his paws back towards his body. "C'mon." He turned back to the other tom, whipping his head towards the camp entrance in a gesture to leave. He didn't need to eat yet. Besides, there was nothign to eat until they came back home.

The tom's narrow eyes slid over to Sootstorm as he exited camp. "Yeah." 'and I wouldn't mind keeping it that way'. He bit his tongue, not wanting to have another scene like with Brackenwing.

Refusing to acknowledge his clanmate's radiating positivity, he chose a path to walk, keeping his eyes forward as Sootstorm talked. A rabbit caught his attention, and without giving Sootstorm a warning, he split from the path, increasing his pace until he met the rabbit. Only, before he was able to get his paws on it, a shadow cast over the ground around him. It moved quickly, by the time he turned his head to look at it, it was gone. But he knew what it was. A growl rose in his throat. "Oh, for Starclans sake." Letting out a warning shriek, an eagle swooped from the sky, raking it's talons across the Windclanner's back. Jayfrost let out a pain-stricken yowl. Blood began to well from the wounds, dripping down his flank within heartbeats, staining his fur red.

Quickly, he dashed towards Sootstorm, trying to keep the pain he felt from being obvious. "Soot, help me out with this!"

The pale tom breathed a sigh of relief when Sootstorm sailed above him, pinning the bird to the ground. Taking Sootstorm's stare as a sign that it was safe to attack, Jayfrost darted forward, digging his claws into the bird's wing and sinking his fangs into its neck.

Just as the eagle has escaped Sootstorm's grasp for the second time, Jayfrost leaped upwards, unsheathed claws aimed at the bird's body. Using all of his strength hold on and all of his weight to pull him down, he ripped the eagle from the sky and pinned it to the ground, digging his claws into it's head. With one last well-placed swipe, the eagle fell limp, and Jayfrost felt like he could finally take another breath of air. Eyes returning to their half-lidded standard, he looked over to Sootstorm. "Help me carry this thing. We can bring it back to camp, feed the queens." The wounds on his back stung, but not enough to keep him from carrying the eagle. Slowly, he heaved it onto his back, looking to his clanmate for assistance.
