Hawkkit was quick to join the gathering crowd at Leopardsun’s call. He’d been hoping, lately, that his apprentice ceremony was soon. He was sick of staying in the nursery, and sick of sitting on the sidelines, watching what was happening to his clan with no ability to do anything about it. He was more than ready to get out there and do something, for once. He shifted restlessly from paw to paw, the ghostly white kit staring up at his deputy from below the Jaggedrock.

Sunflare sat in a very visible spot among the cats, fur nicely groomed and chest puffed out. He had no idea what type of ceremony this would even be, but the possibility lingered that he would be receiving an apprentice. He wasn’t about to look like a dirty rogue when that happened.

Tawnyshadow sat down next to Sunflare, taking note of her mate's unusually well-groomed for. the excitement in the tom's eyes was all it took for her to understand the situation. The she-cat purred,"I'm sure you will receive an apprentice of your own soon. We were made warriors only a few sunrises apart, and I've already got Beetlepaw, so you'll probably get yours any day now." Well, there were some other things she should probably tell Sunflare, but that can wait until after the ceremony. Having new apprentices were always a good thing, especially after they had lost four cats in such a small period of time.

Leopardsun waited for the kit to do so, then dipped her head in acknowledgement. It wouldn't do to let her bitterness and grief sour a joyous occasion for anyone else.
"You have reached the age of six moons and are ready to become an apprentice. From this day until you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Hawkpaw. Your mentor will be Sunflare- I trust he will pass his intelligence and his determination onto you."
With her announcement finished, she stepped back to watch the newly-named mentor and apprentice touch noses. Once they were done, she would vanish into the marsh, returning to her patrol of ShadowClan's territory. Too much bloodshed, too much danger...
"Hawkpaw! Hawkpaw!" Tawnyshadow cheered, giving her mate a I-told-you-so look as she nudged him forward. It was about time too. Maybe Hawkpaw and Beetlepaw could have a joint training session in the future.

Sunflare stepped forward proudly, head held high, though he had to dip it to touch noses with his new apprentice. Hawkpaw. A fine name. A fierce name. “Congratulations, young one,” Sunflare mewed. “You should spend tonight with your friends and find a place in the apprentices’ den. Training begins tomorrow at sunset.” And once again, he was first. Sunflare had an apprentice before any of his siblings, and some of them were even still apprentices themselves!

Hawkkit straightened to attention when Leopardsun called for him. He stepped forward as he told her to, standing tall and proud as she gave him his new name. Hawkpaw. Finally, he would be his own apprentice and be able to move forward. He had a name to make for himself. He found himself searching for his father in the crowd for a moment, hoping to see him, hoping to see just a glimmer of pride in his eyes.
Then he shook himself free of such childish distractions, and turned his head to meet his new mentor. Touching noses to him, he gave a respectful nod as they pulled away. He blinked, once, at the idea of friends, and then just nodded agreement. “I’ll be there.” He promised. “I won’t let you down.”
