Subject: Knowing Your Allies [Mottlestar] Wed 21 Jun 2023 - 12:54
When a squirrel was startled by the snap of a twig underpaw, there was only one thing to do about it. Aurelia leaped after the squirrel without hesitation, claws quickly pinning her prey down as her fangs caught the squirrel's throat. This hadn't been a hunting patrol, but the opportunity had presented itself, and Aurelia wasn't one to pass up the chance to catch prey. Even if there was fresh-kill back at camp... She remembered times where there was no such safety net and it was hunt or starve.
The golden spotted she-cat turned back towards her patrolmates after quickly burying her catch, taking note of the little tortoiseshell who led the patrol. Mottlestar, or Motherstar as Hank had taken to calling her... And it seemed to Aurelia that the name was fitting - both of them. That the little tortoiseshell who was capable of leading the clan was kind enough did not mean that Aurelia was any better at starting a conversation, however. She ought to know these domestic cats while she was living with them, she supposed, but such a thing simply did not come naturally to her.

Mottlestar
“May the stars light our paths.”
That little tortoiseshell in question watched with a respectful amazement at how easily the feline captured her quarry, earning a nod in display of her quiet admiration. Not to mention, a particular bit of amusement that it was a squirrel of all creatures to unfortunately sign its death warrant. It was perhaps Thunderclan's worst-kept secret that their leader found herself quite particularly enjoying the taste of the feather-tailed rodent over all other creatures that they typically found themselves consuming. The best kept secret, however, was the fact that she enjoyed salamanders the most. Not that Thunderclan caught nearly enough to make it a worthy delicacy to sustain herself off of, when she instead could share them with her clanmates.
Unlike her patrol-mate, however, Mottlestar had no issue in beginning conversation. It flowed easily from her tongue, which perhaps was a blessing when so many looked to her for guidance. Or a curse, as it meant sometimes giving advice when it truly wasn't desired. "How has your stay been so far?" Her speech had changed just slightly around the feral cats than others. Known to her Clan, she delivered her words as clearly pronounced, but with a quick tempo that could sometimes be hard to keep up with. The form of each syllable stayed the same, but that tempo had slowed just ever so slightly so she could better be understood. It wasn't out of some insult to their intelligence - as far as she had known, they had picked up on their language rather quickly. No, it was simply out of kindness. She often found herself speaking similarly when at the Gathering, especially as her voice had to carry out farther. Speaking just slightly slower meant her voice carried more audibly, more clearly.
"I hope you and your... siblings? Friends? Kin? Nevertheless, I hope all of you have at least felt some semblance of home while here." It had been obvious enough that the one named Sleet had shared an appearance with Aurelia, but was certainly separate from Hank. Unfortunately, that left the tortoiseshell not entirely sure of just what title to bestow upon the bond that had brought the three of them together, and ultimately to Thunderclan's borders.

An ear flicked as the tortoiseshell spoke, asking about how she was adjusting. "Well enough." Over time, the language of these domestic cats became easier to understand, and Aurelia had become more comfortable speaking it. "Your clanmates are-" melodramatic and impulsive... Aurelia knew better than to say such, however. "-welcoming enough." Wary of them still, rightfully so, but Aurelia had little problem with that. She kept her nose out of the constant state of drama that seemed to surround Thunderclan, watching from a distance. None of it involved her, so why should she get involved? She held little opinion about most of it, and her own view likely wasn't needed or wanted. She was too new to living among these cats to attempt to interfere. The little tortoiseshell seemed to handle things well enough. Not being chased out, and the safety of the organized group was enough for Aurelia.
The other she-cat's confusion on how to address her companions in relation to Aurelia brought forth an amused twitch of her whiskers. "They are friends, yes." Aurelia nodded, "Sleet and I had never met, before being captured." And Hank was quite different from either of the two spotted she-cats. Still, the two had become her closest companions, how could they not, after the journey the three shared? "Home is where they are." She shrugged simply, "Though your forests aren't entirely different from what I knew."
