"Hey, um. I'm taking a hunting patrol out at sunhigh... If anyone wants to go, meet me at the camp entrance then."
Those were the words he had called out earlier that morning, loud enough to reach the ears of all who were in camp. Now, though, the sun was directly above him and he was prepared to take out a patrol. A few cats had joined him at the camp entrance by now, enough to take hunting. "Alright, then... If that's everybody, we can leave now." He cast each member of the group a hopeful look before ducking though the camp entrance and padding out onto the moors, delighted by the surprisingly warm wind. "You feel that? It's getting warmer. It'll be newleaf before we know it." He meowed to nobody in particular.
Newleaf was both a blessing and a curse, the downsides mainly a result of his thick fur. It seemed its blessings were coming early, though. Prey was abundant on the moors today, surely a result of the warmer temperatures. One rabbit, closer than the others, caught Smallbeans attention. With a brief nod to those on the patrol with him, he parted from the crowd, slinking through the grass in order to grow closer to it. Once the scent was more concentrated and the deputy could spot it's pale fur through the stalks of grass, he lunged, pinning the rabbit down and locking his jaws around it's neck. Once he had secured the kill, he raised his head, rabbit hanging from his mouth, and dashed back to the group.
Smallbean attempted to catch rabbit, costing 5 SP. Attempt wassuccessful!
Smallbean: 155/160 SP [-05]

When Smallbean announced early that he would be taking a hunting patrol, Adderdawn was eager to do. Hunting was one of his favorite things to do, besides just walking the moor: it was a simple, quiet way to keep his mind busy. It’d been a point of frustration recently though, ending mostly with him running headfirst into one of those cursed traps or shuffling his apprentice away from a wandering twoleg. With the threat gone, he was eager to do something while trying his luck again.
The wind hit him as soon as they left the hollow, but it wasn’t the harsh bustle he’d gotten used to through leaf-bare. It blew easily through his fur, carrying with it a promising warmth. Adderdawn turned his face into it, eyes closing briefly as they padded along. It felt hopeful, the change in weather. A bit of the tension left Adderdawn’s shoulders, and he gave the deputy’s comment an idle hum.
It wasn’t long before Smallbean was chasing down– and hurrying back with –a good-sized rabbit. Adderdawn nodded quietly at the catch before turning away in search of his own prey. Just as the wind carried over its scent, his eyes landed on a hare. Immediately, he set out after it. Most of the catches he’d missed recently had been hares; he wanted to try and make up for it. Just as he'd gotten close enough to bolt after it, the wind shifted, blowing the wrong direction through his fur and carrying his scent to the hare. Cursing quietly, Adderdawn took the chance, even as it started to dart away. Kicking hard off the ground, he shot after it. Thankfully, it hadn't gotten enough of a warning to outpace him: he caught up with it fast, and with a short leap, had his teeth in its neck. For a moment, the only thing he felt was relief and pride. Lifting his head a little higher when he picked up the hare, he trotted back to the group, joining it with Smallbean's rabbit.
Adderdawn tried to catch a hare... Catch successful! -5 SP.
Fuzzface wasn't a fan of having to do any work, but in an effort to not get yelled at by his clanmates and have to listen to them whine about him not going anything, he joined Smallbean's hunting patrol. Following behind the others through the territory, he watched as a couple of them ran off to begin their hunt and the plump grey tom let out a sigh. Well, he'd better get started too, or whatever.
Trudging through the tall grass, the warrior caught the scent of nearby prey. Crouching down, he stalked forward and soon enough spotted a fairly oblivious rabbit not too far away from him. Doing his best not to let his belly drag along the ground, he slowly inched forward. Bunching up his haunches, he gave his rump a little wiggle before leaping forward with claws extended. Unfortunately for him, the rabbit had taken notice to him too soon and bounded away from his grasp and disappeared into the grass. Letting out a hiss, Fuzzface around but what stared him down wasn't what he expected.
Not even a full foxlength in front of him stood a porcupine; its quills and spines standing on edge. He'd never seen one before, but had been told about them and curiosity peaked his interest. Were they able to bring them home as prey, even with all of its thorny quills? Maybe if they picked them off carefully it would reveal something yummy underneath... Before he was able to wonder about the strange creature any more, it whipped around to show its backside and before Fuzzface could do anything, it swung its tail around. Smacking against his face, he let out a shrill yowl of pain as sharp spines were lodged into his muzzle. Stumbling backwards, he fell onto his rump, as the sharp burning sensation of pain overwhelmed him. He wasn't sure what exactly it looked like, but from what he could see, he practically looked like the porcupine!
Fuzzface attempted to catch a rabbit, costing 5 SP. Attempt was unsuccessful and caused a predator encounter!
Porcupine used Tail Smack on Fuzzface; dealing -15 HP and costing -15 SP.
Tigerpaw was quick to follow after the rest of the warriors and the deputy as they left the camp for a hunting patrol. The lanky tom was growing into his full size slowly starting to look over the rest of his fellow cats. His legs were rather long after all.
The chocolate tom was happy to accompany Smallbean, wanting to make a good impression on the deputy, but the idea flew out the window as soon as he realized Fuzzface was tagging along. Out of the few times Tigerpaw had interacted with the warrior, nothing good has ever come out of it. It seemed like the tom didn't even deserve his warrior name, choosing to be absolutely lazy. He didn't know how Shrikestar even tolerated the warriors prescience in Windclan. He didn't contribute anything. If Silverwing was worth exile then so was Fuzzface.
When the others went off to do there hunting so did Tigerpaw. He was following his own Rabbit scent, trying to track it down so he could hunt it, but he was interrupted by a loud yowl. His head shot up scanning the horizon to see who was in trouble. Once green eyes came across Fuzzface with a face full of what seemed like needles, the lanky tom scoffed. It wasn't worth the trouble to help the lazy tom. Maybe if they were lucky, whatever it was would chase the tom away.
Tigerpaw turned back to his scent trail following it carefully. Once he spotted the pale brown creature in the distance, his heart rate picked up. He would have to do this carefully, just like he was trained. He crept closer until he pushed hard against the ground dashing after the rabbit. Thanks to his long legs he was quick to catch up with his prey, tackling it to the ground and killing it with a swift blow. He rested there for a moment, catching his breath after the stint, once he was okay he would catch up with the others.
Tigerpaw attempted to catch a rabbit, Successful. -3 SP

Eagle paw ran after the patrol that was just leaving camp. He had meant to join this even if a bit late. He was just in time to see smallbean catch a rabbit! Then his mentors brother adder caught one too! Oh wow, good job you too! he cheered for his warrior clanmates. Eagle paw was even happier and more joyful than usual with the good weather that was now happening. The Sun felt so amazing on his pelt and the prey did seem to be more abundant.
He glanced around… hmm where in the world had fuzz face gone?? He wondered
Tiger paw his denmate soon also caught a rabbit and eagle paw almost did a happy dance that they were doing so awesome this patrol.
He bounded forward seeing a rabbit and licked his lips as he broke out into a chase after it.
Success!
He caught it! He purred looking to his patrol mates happily. He had done it!!
Batsong was also a bit late to the patrol but followed after the deputy. She took good notes on where all her warrior clanmates were headed when they broke off into looking for prey. She was a bit protective of all of them and so it was normal that she soon recognized she had seen fuzz in awhile. She went to where she had last seen him and when she got there saw him and a porcupine… she froze nervously as he got smacked right in the face!!
Oh f-fuzz! her mind couldn’t help but go to how it seemed inevitable that all her poor clanmates always got beat up. She was so not feeling fighting this thing off and it wasn’t worth fighting them anyways … c-come on over h-here we will get you back to m-my den d-don’t worry porcupines can’t r-run very fast she instructed him with a sympathetic sigh

Upon returning to the patrol, a foul stench reached the deputies nose, carrying with it blood, faintly. A strained look at Batsong and Fuzzface told him more than words could. The medicine cat was fussing over a few quills stuck in his face. He looked away before Batsong could catch him looking at her.
Dropping the rabbit near a shrub he dashed toward the creature, muttering to the medicine cat as he passed. "Watch out." Movements swift, he darted beneath the porcupine. He'd dealt with these beasts before, but not often enough to feel comfortable fighting one. The belly was one of the only places he knew there wasn't quills, it was the place he could attack and was least likely to end up like fuzzface.
Smallbean has attempted Belly Rake on Porcupine, costing -25 SP. Attempt was successful, dealing 20 HP and successfully evading Quill Armor!
Smallbean: 70/70 HP 135/160 SP [-25]
Porcupine: 40/60 HP [-20] 150/165 SP

Adderdawn
He had barely been able to celebrate his and Smallbean’s successes when a shriek of pain split the calm air. Wincing, Adderdawn’s attention immediately followed the sound to find Fuzzface pitted against… a porcupine? Adderdawn’s tail bristled. He’d heard of them, vaguely, but he’d never seen one before. Even at a distance, the cloak of spines around it intimidated and unsettled him.
Tigerpaw and Eaglepaw bounded away in search of their own prey, while Smallbean and Batsong rushed to the fight. Hissing, Adderdawn whipped to the apprentices and called, “Stay in our sight!” He couldn’t tell them to join in beating back the porcupine; it would probably be better if they didn’t, anyway. He could at least caution them against disappearing over the hills. With a sharp look toward them, Adderdawn raced to the porcupine.
Determined not to falter, he forced himself not to stall as he got up close to it. Without giving himself a chance to think, Adderdawn struck out, raking sharp claws across the side of its face. Stray quills ruffing its neck caught in his leg, and he hissed in pain, but he was satisfied to have drawn blood and earned a squeal of pain.
Adderdawn used Front Paw Strike, dealing 8 damage and costing 7 SP. He takes -3 damage from Quill Armor.

Batsong leapt up suprised when first smallbean then adder both attacked the porcupine. She slammed her paw down upset when inevitable happened and adder got stuck with quills.
s-star sake both of you OUT! she yelled raising her voice for once.
She already had to deal with fuzz’s poor face and now adder he quills too. And for what?? To scare off some porcupine that would lumber away soon anyways? It’s not like they were fast enough that they couldn’t be outrun. Why did her warriors always have to fight things when simpler options were there.
If anyone else attacks that s-stupid porcupine I’ll p-put you on apprentice duty for a m-moon she ordered pointing both adder and small to go away from here.
