It had been a long few moons for the both of them.
Through no faults of their own, they'd been separated from their Clan; from each other. Whether through fate or good fortune, they'd been reunited. Briarstar... Or Briarthorn by now, she assumed, wasted no opportunity fighting back against the twolegs that captured her on the frantic trip to Fourtrees. Despite their best efforts and good intentions, Briarthorn knew that she had to get back to her home and to her Clanmates, and she'd do whatever she had to do in order to ensure her release. The molly was quickly labeled aggressive and impossible to tame and, unbeknownst to her, nearly landed her a spot on the cutter's table for the final time. It was pure luck that the latch on the tiny den provided to her by the twolegs had come loose enough for her to notice, and eventually make a mad leap from, just as the monster let her twolegs out at the cutters.
Nightbird was somehow less fortunate. The formerly skittish, easily frightened tom had dwindled to a shell of who he used to be. The twolegs who had picked him up were far less caring and gentle than his mothers. They had no genuine desire to love and care for a kittypet. In fact, it was quite the opposite. At first, Nightbird was showered with feigned affection, taking the form of unstimulating toys and an abundance of what the twolegs called "play". Things quickly took a turn when they lost interest, however, and the tom became nothing more than a burden to them- which they had no qualms showing. Days would go by where Nightbird was stuck in a wired den just barely large enough for him to lay down- not that he got much sleep anyway, as much as the twolegs yelled. Sometimes the twolegs would forget to feed him the dry, oddly shaped prey that seemed to be normal where he was. Occasionally, they'd even lash out at him whenever he did something they didn't like. It didn't take long for the light to leave his eyes; for him to become battered and withdrawn. His saving grace was when one of the twoleg kits let him out of his odd den, just long enough for him to make a dash to one of the large clear openings in the wall that had- thank the stars- been left open.
It was mere coincidence, or perhaps very good luck that the two of them happened to cross paths. Briarthorn had been searching for the path back to the forest since her escape, and Nightbird was still weary from running from his own twolegs. After sharing their stories and a freshly caught sparrow, they set out to find the forest again... To find home.
Their travels eventually led them to where they were now... Just outside of SkyClan's camp. It looked different than it had before, but neither could tell if that was a product of their imaginations and time away, or if it genuinely appeared so differently after the events that separated them in the first place. They shared a brief glance filled with trepidation yet also longing, and then Briarthorn led the way, ducking in through the entrance and taking a deep breath, hoping that the Clan would welcome her back, or at the very least, her son.

Creamsky was sitting outside of the warrior's den - a back paw raised as he carefully lapped at it - a determination in cleaning his foot. The sound of the entrance shifting caused him to pause. Surely no patrol was expected back for quite a while? But as he glanced up and saw two unfamiliar cats pressing their way into the camp, he was on his paws in an instant. His hackles were raised, fur prickling but he didn't step forward - he could see how unsure the two cats were, they weren't looking for a fight...Not in that state.
"Birdstar?" he called out, sparing a glance toward the leader's den. "...We have guests - and not from another Clan by the smell of them."

Moonlily had been on alert, as per usual. But her ears perked at the scent of these two. She had to look twice - actually, more like four times - before it really sank into her mind. She knew these cats. She knew them, there was no mistake. "Night..?" She questioned, looking at the skinnier tom, before finally focusing on the cat in front of him...
It was why, almost instantly, a loud "MOM!" pierced out from the she-cat. It'd no doubt alert her clanmates in camp that there was a cat Moonlily had known, and given her Clanmates... they'd know who she was talking about. It felt like minutes that were truly actually seconds that the molly spent sprinting, made a bit slower by her back leg which screamed at her in anger at how she'd put so much sudden stress on it. Ignoring the pain shooting up her hind leg, all Moonlily could do was pounce straight at Briarthorn.
Deep purrs rumbled from her throat as she actually met fur. Part of her had dreamt of this moment so many times, only to be met with a carcass instead of the actual warmth of her mother. But no, this was real. It was... It was real.

Wolfblossom had been sprawled on a low hanging tree branch, having just returned from a hunting patrol when Creamsky's voice called for Birdstar. At the same moment the faint, chilly breeze shifted, and the deputy practically fell out of the tree in surprise, quickly leaping to the ground to approach the two cats that had entered camp. "Former clanmates, Creamsky." She mewed, though he was young enough to not have met either of them.
"Nightbird? Briarsta-... uh... thorn?" Wolfblossom blinked at the two in surprise. Was the former leader even Briarstar still now that Birdstar had her lives? She guessed not but... still. "Mom told us you had been taken by twolegs. Well, told Birdstar, and she told us." She mewed, "You've been gone a while. I'm uh... Skyclan's deputy now." Would Briarstar... thorn... whatever, want her leadership back?
Moonlily was the next to arrive, exactly as excited as Wolfblossom had felt at seeing her own mother standing in camp, and rightfully so. Wolfblossom stepped back awkwardly to give the large she-cat room to greet them.
"Birdstar?" She called out, knowing her sister was in camp somewhere and that Creamsky had called her.

Celandinekit peeked her head out of the nursery at the commotion. "What's happening?" she asked with wide eyes. There was a group forming at the camp's entrance. She couldn't see exactly what was happening but noticed that whatever was happening wasn't anything bad. She calmed down.
She turned back to see if her mom would let her move closer but the small shake of her mom's head made her stay put. She pouted but obediently remained where she was. She tried to strain her ears to listen in but could only make out a few words being spoken. Something about former clanmates and someone's mom. She tilted her head. Maybe she could ask someone later.
The she-kit continued to watch as her mother began to groom her fur. She huffed but stayed relatively still and let it happen. She was just a bit antsy to find out about the situation.

Bloodstrike's ears perked up when he heard Creamsky's voice. Even more so when he heard Moonlily shout... Mom. The old tom was on his paws in an instant, abandoning the rabbit he'd been eating. He slowly picked up speed, from a cautious stalk forward... to a hopeful trot... to a moment of excited sprinting. Briarthorn... alive! He made about four strides forward... before the giant tom remembered something that caused him to drop his haunches and slam on the brakes. Powdery snow flew from his paws at his rapid halt, and the once excited Bloodstrike suddenly stood stock-still.
The excitement that had lit up his face and his eyes only a moment ago faded off of his expression and was replaced by one of uncertainty. He'd helped save her from a fallen tree last time they were together... but how much had that actually mattered to her? He stood there, suddenly aware that he may be more happy to see her than she him.
Moonlily would have her time to greet her mother, then once everyone else had said their piece, Bloodstrike would be waiting. His eyes traveled to Nightbird briefly, but he was just as unsure of what to do with him as he was Briarthorn. Since he had just a moment, he pawed Wolfblossom on the end of her tail for her attention.
"Remember what I said when I came back?" He asked in a low voice that only those closest to him could hear. "Whatever she may be feeling toward me, whatever she may do, please just allow it." He'd done the wrong thing. A horrible thing. If Briarthorn wanted to pummel him and give him more scars (because seriously, what was a few more?), then he would take it. He could handle it.
More than anything, once everything was settled down, he wanted to speak to her. He hoped she'd allow it, so much in fact, the scarred tom nearly asked Starclan to sway her decisions. Nearly. He had to remind himself that those dead ancestors of his had no love for him and cared even less for his pains, or why would they have tormented him so?
Bloodstrike sat down on the edge of the crowd that gathered... and silently waited for Briarthorn to approach him if she would.

Birdstar
Aside from lone patrols, it was rare that Birdstar allowed herself a moment of solitude. Even if she would have preferred the bit of quiet, there was always something to be done, someone to speak with– and even if she wasn’t actively at work or in conversation, she enjoyed just watching the rest of SkyClan go about their day, whether it was patrols coming and going, kits tumbling out of the nursery, or warriors sharing tongues. But today, she’d taken to her den after returning from patrol. It was a rare sight to catch in the leader’s den outside of sleep; the cold, lonely space made the fur along her spine bristle. That, or it was memories of a body crushed under the weight of a fallen tree, the shelter crushed to debris, that gave her pause.
Whichever it was, she wouldn’t complain about her rest being interrupted when Creamsky’s voice called for her. Especially not when he mentioned guests.
Birdstar was quick to get to her paws, but she hadn’t made it out of the den yet when Moonlily’s voice hit her ears as well. Mom? Birdstar paused. No, it couldn’t be– could it?
Wolfblossom’s call shook her from her brief daze, and Birdstar padded outside quickly. Though Moonlily’s shout told her what to expect, it didn’t stop her from feeling like she’d been pelted in the chest with stones when she took in the crowd gathering by the entrance to camp. She stalled for another moment, almost waiting to see if this was a dream or not, then pulled in a breath and padded closer. As she passed, she caught the voice of a kit, poking curiously outside of the nursery. Quietly, she mewed, “Old friends,” then went along without pausing again. Bloodstrike also drew her attention: speaking in a low tone to Wolfblossom, looking… surprisingly sheepish. That almost made Birdstar stop in her tracks, but she only set her jaw and returned her gaze forward.
Standing in front of the pair now, Birdstar was silent. In truth, she didn’t know what to say. She’d assumed they were both lost to twolegs, not to be seen again. First, she mewed, “Nightbird,” dipping her head graciously to him. They were the same age, and apprentices together for a good time. She never spoke with him much, but he seemed a good cat. Even if they hadn’t been close, seeing the weariness in his eyes made her shoulders feel heavy. Then, after closing her eyes for a moment to collect herself, she turned towards the tabby beside him.
“Briarst– thorn. I’m… I’m glad you’re safe,” she mewed softly. The words were an understatement: when Briarstar never came to Fourtrees, Birdchaser had been terrified. Wounded, sick, and panicked, desperately hoping her leader would come back and the weight of SkyClan’s lives wouldn’t be on her shoulders alone.
But she was Birdstar now, and Briarstar surely Briarthorn again. Wolfblossom was deputy, leading alongside her. And somehow, SkyClan continued to survive– and thrive, under her leadership.
Birdstar bowed her head, a deeper nod than she’d given Nightbird. “Welcome home, both of you. SkyClan missed you. Some things are… different, now,” she looked towards Moonlily before sparing a look over her shoulder at Bloodstrike. She wouldn’t say she regretted the decision to allow him back into the Clan, but the reservations of his daughter, and now the return of his– former? –mate and one of his sons… with a sigh, the large molly turned forward again. Lowering her voice, she went on, “I’m sure there will be… tension, there. But ask Wolfblossom or myself, and we’ll make sure you only see him as often as is necessary. But other than that… welcome home, again.”
